Chapter 154
Chapter 154
During the Halloween, the bus company didn't take a break, so Ronald went to work while Sienna
stayed at home. Just like Samantha, Sienna kept a poker face upon seeing Cordelia and her mom.
Cordelia was pretty pissed about that, considering her mom had been bedridden for six years.
Her grandma had a soft spot for her daughter. Upon seeing Shelley, she burst into tears.
Sienna threw a glance at her grandma. The message in her eyes was clear to Cordelia, talk what you
need to, but keep your mouth shut if it's unnecessary.
Her grandma was dependent on Ronald and Sienna. She was too scared of Sienna to do anything but
whimpered quietly.
Shelley noticed that her mom's bedding was filthy. Choking back tears, Shelley said, "Mom, I'll wash
your bedding for you.” NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
Knowing her mom's mobility was limited, Cordelia carried all the bedding to the bathroom, ready to put
it in the washing machine. Just then, Sienna gave her a weird look. “You're going to use the washing
machine?”
“Is that wrong?”
“There are traces of urine and feces on her bedding…” After saying this, Sienna took out a basin from
the side. “This is the basin she uses.”
To keep her grandma from being upset any longer, Cordelia had no choice but to wash the bedding by
hand. She spent the entire morning washing. Ronald refused to turn on the heating, so the house was
freezing cold. Her hands were red and swollen, nearly frostbitten.
At noon, Sienna cooked three dishes to entertain Cordelia and Shelley.
“Della, have you started working?” Sienna asked Cordelia coldly.
“Yeah.”
“What do you do?” Samantha chimed in.
“I'm just an ordinary accountant in a company,” Cordelia recalled her mom's words and replied lightly.
Sienna gave a satisfied smile.
“Our Samantha is working in the largest paper factory in the county.”
“That's great, promising,” Cordelia replied.
Samantha perceived the insincerity in Cordelia's words and said, “In a few days, I will be working for
Lumos Enterprises. Lumos Enterprises is the biggest corporation in Millstone.”
Cordelia paused mid-bite. She was going to Millstone Corporation? She never paid much attention to
job postings.
Seeing Cordelia's stunned expression, Samantha felt even more triumphant. “Surprised, aren't you? I
heard that accountants don't earn much. Us salespeople, on the other hand, are different. We're paid
based on our performance, with lots of commissions,” Samantha continued.
“Yeah, salespeople do make good money,” Cordelia replied.
“Oh, by the way, do you have a boyfriend?” Samantha asked Cordelia again.
People often said that marriage was a woman's second reincarnation. Cordelia's life wasn't going well.
If she married a rich man, she would have surpassed her. She'd better find a man whose family
conditions were similar to hers, preferably a freeloader.
“Yeah, I'm married.” Cordelia finished her meal. Sienna's cooking was hard to swallow, so she only ate
a few bites.
Hearing this, Samantha thought, “Cordelia is married?”
“What does your husband do?” Samantha asked anxiously.
“He's just an ordinary guy, running a small business, making ends meet,” Shelley answered succinctly
to avoid shocking Sienna.
Samantha looked at Cordelia with puzzled eyes, then at her clothes. Samantha didn’t know much
about fashion, but she thought Cordelia’s clothes were all of a simple style, not looking like they were
expensive. This thought comforted Samantha.
Moreover, if Cordelia’s husband was rich, he would definitely come and flaunt their wealth with
Cordelia. Since he didn’t come, he must have lacked confidence.
“Can I stay tonight to accompany my mom?” Shelley asked Sienna.
“Of course, but our house is a bit cramped. It might be a bit tight for the three of you,” Sienna said, her
eyes filled with a touch of sarcasm.
If Shelley's family was rich, her attitude would certainly be different. Sadly, after six years of illness and
poverty, the living condition was simply pathetic.
Hearing Sienna's words, Cordelia felt upset, but she couldn't vent her feelings.
Her grandma's bed was not big. It would be crowded even for two people, not to mention three.
Sienna didn't suggest that Cordelia and Samantha share a room, and Samantha didn't express any
intention to do so.
“No need, Cordelia can stay in a hotel. She has friends out there,” Shelley said.
“Friends? What kind of friends?” Samantha asked curiously. She wondered, Cordelia just said she was
married. Was that friend her husband?
“Just a colleague from my work,” Cordelia answered casually.
Sienna thought to herself, “I must follow her tonight and see who it is!”
Perhaps that person was her husband!
At six in the evening, Ronald came back. His attitude towards Shelley was warm, but just that.
At seven, Cordelia’s friend Brooklyn sent her the location of the hotel, and she planned to go there.
Brooklyn had booked an economic hotel quite close to Cordelia’s grandma’s house.
After Cordelia left, Samantha followed her.
