Evelyn sighed in relief upon hearing that. “It’s good that it’s nothing serious. Does the need to take any medication?

The doctor shook his head. “The patient’s health is fine, There’s no need for medication Just take her home and let her rest.”

Evelyn pursed her lips and realized that Ingrid was overreacting and making a fuss for no reason.

Ingrid, lying on the hospital bed, felt guilty. She had been scared and distressed by the severe stomach pain, but it turned out nothing was wrong.

Evelyn took a deep breath. For the sake of her unborn grandchild, she decided to keep her frustration in ch

eck.

When she walked into the ward, she warned, “You’d better behave and stop causing trouble. Otherwise, you know what’ll happen.”

Ingrid shrank back and dared not speak loudly. “I understand.”

Evelyn shot her a stern look before storming out.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

After a busy spell in the laboratory, Miranda received a call from Christine. She asked Miranda to visit her house next week to introduce her to someone.

Miranda noticed Christine sounded unusually weary and wondered why she needed to come next week when she was available this week.

“Sure,” Miranda said.

In the afternoon, she discreetly took the subway to Christine’s home.

Christine had given her the house key during a previous visit to help with the plants. She insisted Miranda keep them and visit whenever she wanted. It proved to be quite handy now.

A faint smell of herbal medicine greeted her when she opened the door. After changing her shoes, she walked inside.

Before she could say anything, Olivia Carter, Christine’s housekeeper, exclaimed in surprise, “Miranda? What are you doing here? Dr. Young said you were coming next week.”

“Olivia, who’s here?”

Someone inside seemed to have heard the noise and slowly approached with a cane.

Miranda’s expression darkened. “Is this why you didn’t want me to visit this week?”

Christine looked uncomfortable. She hadn’t expected her request for a later visit to raise suspicion.

“Oh, it’s just a chronic condition. Nothing serious. I went to the hospital a few days ago. The arthritis flared up, but two days of rest should fix it.”

har vort need a cane? How could that possibly

get better in two days?”

Christine cleared her throat and realized she couldn’t fool her.

Olivia smiled and said, “You two catch up while I tidy up the kitchen and prepare some fruit.”

Once she left, only Miranda and Christine were in the living room.

Miranda didn’t hold back anymore. She rolled up Christine’s pant leg and saw that her calf was severely swollen, especially around the joints.

She was genuinely upset. “You said you saw a doctor. Which hospital? Which doctor? I want to talk to them about how this is considered ‘not serious‘ and why it should get better in just a few days.”

Christine replied helplessly, “Okay, you caught me. I admit that I didn’t want to go to the hospital and just got some medication.

Old age brings its share of problems. Spending all my time at the hospital would be a waste. I was trying to avoid worrying you, but I didn’t realize you’d be so sharp. Nothing gets past you.”

Christine then gently patted Miranda’s head with a smile. “If it were you, you’d feel the same. The laboratory is much more interesting than the hospital, right?”
