Chapter 998: We Will Get Married
"No wrong has been done; when someone makes a mistake, they must accept the consequences,"
Brandon said softly.
Sandy's gaze fell to the bedroom door, unable to pinpoint her feelings.
With her parents gone, Stella was both a mother and a sister to her. Sandy had taken care of
everything she should and shouldn't have done, arranging it all perfectly for her.
For Stella's sake, Sandy had endured a lot of grievances.
Now, as she looked at her, she could only watch helplessly, unable to do anything.
This feeling of powerlessness weighed heavily on Sandy's heart, as if a thousand-pound stone was
pressing against her chest, making it hard for her to breathe.
"Brandon, I'm feeling a little tired too," Sandy finally spoke.
She sat on the living room sofa for a while before getting up and returning to her room. Brandon
followed her and escorted her to the bedroom. "Rest for a while. Let me know if you want something to
eat later," he said.
Sandy nodded and turned her back to him, closing her eyes.
Brandon knew that Sandy was upset about Stella's situation, so he didn't say much, giving her the quiet
space she needed.
As Brandon left the room, his phone rang.
After closing the bedroom door, he finally checked his phone.
The call was from Berton.
Brandon answered the call as he walked into the living room. "What's the matter?"
"Mr. Hawkins, there's been an incident with the Cloudby Apartment project. The scaffolding collapsed,
three people were injured, and one person died on the spot," Berton explained.
Brandon furrowed his brow as he listened to Berton's account. "Have you reported it to the police?"
"The police have already been here to inspect and sealed off the scene. Can you come back?" Berton
asked in a hushed voice.
Brandon fell silent for a few seconds. "I'll be back tonight."
"I'll pick you up when you return. The Hawkins family is causing quite a commotion. I've arranged for
people to be there, but this incident will likely be exposed soon. There's probably no way to keep it
hidden," Berton replied. NôvelDrama.Org: text © owner.
Frowning, Brandon said, "I'll handle it. Please try to comfort the family."
"Alright."
After hanging up the phone, Brandon pinched his brow and turned to the balcony, grabbing another
phone to make a call.
It rang several times before the lazy voice of a man came through. "Who's this?"
"It's me, Brandon."
Upon hearing Brandon's voice, the person on the other end perked up. "Brandon?"
"Yeah, can we talk? Do you have time?"
"Aren't you in Viteto? How can we talk?"
"I'll be back tonight. Let's meet tomorrow morning."
At the mention of Brandon coming back, the person on the other end asked, "Something happened?"
"I'll talk to you when I'm back. Are you still in Viteto these days? When are you leaving?"
"I'm not going anywhere. I'll be in Viteto from now on. The Old Mr. Lawrence threatened to break my
legs and cut ties with me if I dare to leave Viteto. He said it seriously, so how can I leave?"
"You should stay at home. Uncle is getting older."
The man named Nelson Penn snorted. "You're the one talking about being responsible."
Ignoring Nelson's remark, Brandon continued, "See you tomorrow."
After that, Brandon was about to hang up when Nelson's voice came through again. "Brandon."
"Hmm?"
"Do you know who I came back with this time?"
Hearing Nelson's question, Brandon's brow slightly furrowed. "You brought your girlfriend back?"
Nelson said, "Olive Longman."
Upon hearing the name, Brandon's brow only twitched slightly, not saying much more.
Nelson saw Brandon's silence and couldn't help asking, "Aren't you going to say something?"
"What do you want me to say?"
"You... never mind, I heard you're dating a big star as your girlfriend?" Nelson said.
Brandon whispered, "We're getting married."
Nelson understood what Brandon meant and explained, "I was just kidding earlier, don't overthink it."
Brandon replied with an "Mm" and then hung up the phone.
As soon as the call ended, before Brandon could gather his thoughts, his phone rang again. This time,
it was Zane calling.
Brandon answered, "Zane."
"Do you have a problem over there?" Zane asked.
Brandon was slightly taken aback, "You seem to have quite a bit of inside information."
Ignoring Brandon's remark, Zane asked, "Do you need help? Just let me know."
"For now, not yet. When are you planning to come back?" Brandon inquired.
"Two or three days," Zane replied.
After a moment's hesitation, Brandon suggested, "Zane, if things are sorted out there, can you bring
Yanis back tomorrow morning?"
Upon hearing Brandon's request, Zane understood his concerns and agreed, "We'll be back tomorrow
morning."
"Thank you."
With Stella's situation and Sandy's pregnancy, it was only natural that Brandon didn't want to leave
without any support. Having Yanis with him would ease his worries.
After chatting with Zane for a few more moments, the call ended.
At that time, in Burumal.
After ending the call with Brandon, Zane turned to Yanis, who was sitting beside him, and asked, "We'll
go back tomorrow morning?"
Yanis nodded, "Is everything settled on your end?"
Zane took a seat next to Yanis and said, "Mostly. Albi will handle the rest."
Yanis replied, "Then let's return tomorrow. Brandon must be going back to Viteto."
Zane had not kept Yanis in the dark about the situation in Viteto. As soon as he received the news, he
explained the situation to her.
Originally, Zane planned to take Yanis around for a bit during this trip, but plans changed quickly.
...
The next morning, Zane and Yanis returned to Manches City, leaving Albi to handle the matters in
Burumal.
Although Viteto was still some distance away from Manches City, the incident involving a person's
death quickly made headlines.
As they headed to the airport, Yanis looked at the news on her phone and couldn't help feeling worried.
"These people are so unreasonable."
"Once someone is dead, there's no reasoning left," Zane replied in a low voice.
Yanis intended to say something in response, but her words stalled, and she changed the topic, asking,
"Won't the police investigate the matter thoroughly?"
"Brandon has already reported to the police, so there should be results soon," Zane assured her.
Yanis nodded and put her phone away, leaning against Zane.
Suddenly, she felt a wave of motion sickness, which she wasn't prone to. It made her frown.
Zane sensed Yanis's discomfort almost immediately and looked down at her, asking, "What's wrong?"
"Maybe I ate a bit too much in the morning," Yanis adjusted her posture and leaned against Zane
again. "I should feel better soon."
