Chapter 242
Chapter 242
Charlie was slightly taken aback, but politely let him in. “Emily said she had something to take care of a
t home, why don’t you give her a call?
Shawn Sullivan carefully entered the room, looking around. Many of the items in the house were unfam
iliar to him, but they clearly belonged to someone with a lot of money.
Both surprised and delighted, his attitude became even more respectful and cautious.
Charlie poured a glass of water for him. “Please have a seat.”
“Alright, alright!‘ Shawn took the water with both hands, fearfully and cautiously, and sat down on the so
fa, asking, “Is my daughter living with you?”
Charlie looked at the expectation in the man’s eyes, a hint of coldness in his own, and smiled faintly, “N
o, I recently got a little injured, so I hired Emily to take care of me.”
“Oh, that’s how it is!” The man’s face showed clear disappointment.
As he looked at the leather sofa and expensive coffee table, he felt it was a pity.
With a faint, indifferent smile, Charlie asked, “Do you need Emily for something? Why not give her a cal
l?”
The man’s voice was hoarse, “Actually, calling her or not wouldn’t make much of a difference.”
After saying that, and without waiting for Charlie to respond, he continued, “Here’s the thing, her mom i
s sick and needs a hundred thousand dollars for surgery. We spent all the money on buying Emily’s bro
ther’s new house, so we have nothing left. I came here thinking I could ask her for some money, but se
eing that she has to rely on nursing others to pay for her tuition, I just can’t bear it!”
As Shawn spoke, he wiped his tears, looking helpless and sad.
Frowning, Charlie thought about Emily
crying in her room just moments ago, and it was because of this.
“Emily probably doesn’t have that much money either. So,
let me give you the money. Go get your wife’s treatment first.” Charlie said.
Shawn suddenly looked up with tearful eyes, excitedly asking, “Really? You’re willing to lend me a hund Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
red thousand dollars?”
“Yes, I’ll transfer the money to you right now!” Charlie took out his phone.
“Great!” Shawn
practically trembled as he took out his phone, his voice shaking, “You’re truly our family’s benefactor! D
on’t worry, I’ll be sure to pay you back!”
“No rush!” Charlie transferred the money to Shawn, “If it’s not enough, just let me know. I know a few p
eople at the hospital, so if you need anything, you can come to me as well.”
“Yes!” Shawn raised his arm to wipe his tears, sobbing, “Our family has really met a good person, you’r
e so generous!”
For the first time, Charlie was called a good person and felt rather pleased with himself. “It’s just a smal
l matter, no need to dwell on it.”
“I’m taking off now!” Shawn got up with his cell phone.
Charlie saw him out and handed him another bottle of water as it was hot outside.
The man left gratefully!
Emily didn’t return to the Royal Mansion until dusk, holding a cardboard box in her arms, her face sulle
n and her heart feeling empty. Today was Sunday, and her sister–in–
law, Lauren, had gone back with her brother to help pack up their things. Lauren
specifically told Emily to visit their house often in the future!
Lauren’s smile was fake, and it seemed a bit smug, as if she had driven Emily away and taken
everything that rightfully belonged to her.
At that moment, Emily almost couldn’t help arguing with Lauren in
front of her brother, but she held back. It seemed that from this moment on, she was already an outside
r.
She found it ridiculous that she hadn’t even gotten married yet, and she had already become an outsid
er to her own family!
In the end, her home was reduced to just the items in the box she held in her arms.
As she went upstairs, opened the door, and entered, Charlie walked out of the kitchen with a glass of w
ater and asked, “You’re back?”
Emily responded with a hum, looking down to change her shoes.
