Chapter 241
Chapter 241
Tears suddenly streamed down Emily’s face. She raised her hand to cover her face, and the tears rolle
d down her cupped hand.
“Emily, I know this is really unfair to you. Blame me, but don’t blame your brother. He doesn’t even dare
to call you himself, Emily’s mother cried. “Your sister–in–
law has been giving your brother a hard time over the house thing, and your brother is at his wit’s end.”
Emily took a deep breath, wiped the tears from her face, and nodded. “I know, I’ll find my own place to l
ive,”
“Emily, I know you’re a sensible, good girl!” Her mother seemed to be sobbing with her mouth covered.
After hanging up, Emily sat on her bed, feeling a mix of heartache and sadness. Her father had been g
one for so long without any news, and now, she had no home to go back either.
Her happiest time in life was before she was twelve
when her father hadn’t yet gotten addicted to gamble, and her life was happy and carefree.
And now, even that home that held the happiest memories of her childhood was gone!
She covered her face, silent but shaking with sobs,
“What’s wrong?”
A deep voice came from outside the door. Charlie leaned against the door looking at the young girl sitti
ng on the bed with her back to the door, crying.
Emily immediately bowed her head, choking on her words. “Nothing!”
“When there’s a problem, tell me. If it’s not that tough, I can sort it out for you,” Charlie said with a light t
one.
Emily shook her head, burying it in her arm. “it’s really nothing. I just want to be alone right now.”
Charlie was silent for a moment, then turned and left.
After half an hour, Emily came out calmly, showing no signs of her previous porrow. She first went to th Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
e kitchen to cook some food, then went to Charlie’s room. “Charlie, I need to go home for a bit, so I mig
ht not be back until the afternoon. I’ve cooked lunch and left it in the fridge. Just heat up the food when
it’s time.”
“Okay,” Charlie nodded, and then warned her, “Don’t try to handle everything on your own if you can’t.
We can all help you!”
Emily held back the bitterness in her heart, looking sincere. “Thank you, but will be fine!”
Charlie didn’t say anything more, only told her to be careful on the road.
Their old house had been sold, and they had to clear out all their stuff in a few days. Emily didn’t have
anything valuable, but she had a few photo albums and some gifts her parents had given her for her bir
thdays when she was young. She couldn’t bear to lose them.
Leaving the Royal Mansion, Emily took a car back home.
Feeling gloomy, she didn’t notice a man in the corner watching her as she left. Only after she had gone
did the man approach the security guard at the entrance. “Hello, I’m the father of that young girl who ju
st left. She invited me over for her dinner party. Please show me the way.”
The security guard looked him up and down and asked, “What’s the girl’s name?”
The man replied, “Emily. I have a picture of her.”
After showing Emily’s picture on
his phone, the security guard nodded and became more friendly. “Come with me!”
Upon reaching the 30th floor, it was easy to find Charlie’s
apartment since there was only one unit per floor. When Charlie heard someone knock on the door, he
thought it was Estelle coming. He opened the door to see a man, dressed modestly and quite thin, who
looked just about 50, but with deep wrinkles on his face.
The man looked surprised to see Charlie. “Who are you?”
Charlie said casually, “You come to my house, and you don’t know who I am?”
The man’s eyes darted
around, and it dawned on him. He quickly beamed with joy, nodding at the elegant–
looking man in front of him and trying to look ingratiating. “I’m Emily’s father!”
