Chapter 677 Ruin Your Future For Cheap Thrills

In spite of her own desire to flaunt her own talents in front of Saorise, Skylar wondered how she might

be able to do that as she felt that there was nothing about herself that stood out enough in contrast to a

living and breathing avatar of womanly perfection.

Halfway through, Skylar paid a visit to the restroom. Confronted by the short bob look she sported Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.

through her own reflection, she found that she had yet to get herself acclimatized to it.

She kicked herself for allowing Raul to cajole her into cutting off her hair and tried to estimate how long

it might take for it to grow back to the length it was at before.

With her cold hands held out, she let the automated hand dryer thaw the iciness off them. Then, she

spotted Amelia stepping out from one of the cubicles, and the latter did not seem to be in a good place

mentally.

Casting an eye her way, Skylar found that she looked rather beleaguered, as though she had just

endured some major illness. Amelia's makeup was notably marred as well.

“This reality show appearance should have been mine. It was only because my scheduling wouldn't

accommodate it that it landed in your lap, so don't you screw it up.”

“It sounds like I had picked up something that you dropped. Should I be thanking you for that?” Skylar

replied blandly.

The yawning Amelia looked so worn that it seemed that she could not even pry her own lids open.

“Don't bother. I wouldn't go for it even if I could. After all, nobody would want to go out there just to be

the sideshow to Saorise's main act.”

Skylar winced in lamentation. Well, that makes two of us. We women are naturally creatures of envy

who feel a little bit of resentment toward others who are more attractive than themselves.

In the middle of their conversation, Amelia started to veer backward. Even if it was just for that fraction

of a second, Skylar's quick hands caught her from the rear and prevented her from hitting the floor

hard.

Amelia did not offer up any words of gratitude and merely laid there on the floor, shivering all over as

though she was feeling the chills.

Large beads of sweat ran profusely off her forehead and her teeth bit down tightly on her lip. That

pretty face of hers exuded an expression that was manifestly unnerving.

Skylar brought herself into a half-squat when she saw her counterpart that way. “Are you all right?

Where are you feeling unwell? Do you want to see a doctor?”

Pointing to the handbag placed at the side of the washbasin, Amelia struggled to project her voice

through her own hoarseness, “Help me bring that bag over.”

At first, Skylar was under the impression that Amelia was experiencing a relapse of some underlying

condition, even though it did not look like an asthma attack.

She hastened to place the handbag into Amelia's hands, which the latter proceeded to unzip shakily

Then, Skylar's eyes widened in astonishment when she saw her counterpart retrieve an aluminum foil

and a lighter from it.

Having not tried something did not mean that she had no clue what it was. At one glance, she

recognized what Amelia was doing.

Although she was in extreme agony, Amelia was still sufficiently conscious to address Skylar, “Could

you step out for a while? I'd like to smoke a cigarette to deal with my low blood sugar.”

If one rolled back the clock a dozen years, Skylar might have bought into this sort of deceptive

concoction.

Unlike other regular people, however, she declined to press Amelia about when and why this started.

Those questions, she withheld herself, as that was not the appropriate moment for it.

Before she exited, she left that unopened bottle of mineral water she had in her own bag next to

Amelia's feet. “I'll take my leave then. You should get yourself a doctor if it doesn't get better.”

With the lighter clasped inside her fingers, Amelia's voice shuddered. “Don't tell anyone what you saw

here today. Especially Kate. Please take it that I'm begging this of you.”

Skylar turned back to regard Amelia. Seeing the state the latter was in and how polite she was, she

assented. “Even if I don't say anything, you won't be able to hide this for long. Don't ruin your own

future for the sake of cheap thrills. I'm going to pretend that I was never here.”

Amelia's appearance really gave Skylar a shock, as any sensible person would when in the know about

what was up with her.

Afraid that something might happen to Amelia and concerned about whether anyone would walk in on

her, she stood outside to allow Amelia some privacy.

Separated by the door to the restroom, Amelia vaguely picked up on some voices emanating from the

outside, but that was the least of her concerns. She squatted on the floor and started to fiddle with the

foil between her own trembling fingers.

Having waited outside all day and not seeing anyone around, Skylar decidedly turned around and

reentered the restroom.
