Chapter 349
Chapter 349
"May I speak to Daisy? My surname is Taylor."
Nanny May held the phone in her hand and said to Daisy, who had just returned from the hospital,
"Madam, someone wants to speak to you."
Daisy asked casually, "Who is it?"
"She said her surname was Taylor," Nanny May answered.
Daisy put down the things in her hands and took the phone from Nanny Joy. "Hello."
"Ma'am, it's me." Georgina managed to make her voice sound upbeat.
"Well, is there anything I can do for you?" Daisy was quite surprised.
Although Georgina had once been married into the Gates Family, she was not a bad person. Besides,
she was on good terms with Georgina's mother.
"It's about my mother. She's been in a bad mood recently. I wonder if you could make time to talk with
her." Georgina clutched the phone.
Daisy thought for a moment and refused. "I can't go out for the time being."
Arya was about to give birth, so she needed to stay by her side.
Georgina continued in a humble and earnest voice, "Ma'am, you should know about what happened to
the Gates Family. My family is implicated. My mother just had a huge fight with my father. She's in a
foul mood. I talked to her but she wouldn't listen. You're my last resort. I know I may disturb you, but I
really have no other choices. The families that used to be close to us wouldn't answer my calls for fear
that they may get involved."
She was sobbing at last.
Her tears were real.
She wasn't pretending because most of what she said was true.
That was the situation of her family now. She'd had so many friends but all of them had disappeared
when her family was in trouble and kept dodging her calls.
Daisy hesitated. She was an irrelevant person. How was she going to soothe her mother?
"Ma'am, it won't take you too much time."
"Fine." Daisy could bring herself to refuse her.
"Then please meet my mother tomorrow morning at the place you used to meet."
Daisy agreed and hung up the phone. She sat on the sofa and saw Bridget checking the things she'd
bought.
"Mom, is this for me?"
Daisy sneered. "If you get married, I'll consider buying one for you."
Bridget regretted asking that in frustration. Whatever she said ended up about marriage.
"It looks good. Does it cost a lot?" Bridget changed the subject immediately.
Daisy snatched it and closed the box. "My secret money is not enough to buy it."
"What?" Bridget widened her eyes and gaped at the box in Daisy's hand. "Didn't my brother give you a
lot of money? Is it that expensive?"
Was she kidding?
Daisy ignored her and put it away.
Bridget came to sit beside Daisy and took her arm. Then she said with an understanding look, "It's for
my sister-in-law, right? Why didn't you give it to her at the hospital today?"
Daisy pushed Bridget's face away. "You're wrong. This is for Ryan and the baby on the way."
Bridget curled her lips. "You like your grandchildren more."
Daisy glared at her. "A gift for her children is a gift for her."
Bridget deemed that right, but thinking that Daisy had spent so much money, she smiled. "Are you
overjoyed that you have two grandsons now?"
"Why two grandsons?" Daisy thought of something and grabbed Bridget. "The doctor said it was a
boy?" Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Bridget gave a start.
"No. I was just saying..."
"So you were talking nonsense."
"I think you want one more grandson."
Daisy leaned against the sofa and looked expectant. "I hope it is a girl."
She had a grandson now and it would be perfect if she could have a granddaughter.
Bridget held her face in her hands. "My brother is so good to his wife."
"Edward is good to you as well," Daisy said.
Bridget stood up and left. She was fed up with every conversation winding up being about her
marriage.
"You can't always escape from it. You'll get married sooner or later!"
"I won't. You'll support me for the rest of my life!"
Daisy cursed, "You wouldn't give me a single peaceful day, would you?"
Nanny May poured her a glass of water. "Don't worry. She will get married when it's time."
Those words soothed Daisy. She thought how desperate she'd been to see Xavier get married and
have children and now Ryan was a big boy. Although many things had happened, the ending was
good.
"You're right. Let's wait and see. I hope her Mr. Right won't appear too late."
"He won't," Nanny May said.
Daisy had a drink of water to ease the dryness in her throat. She sighed slightly, "I hope so."
After breakfast, Daisy was making soup in the kitchen. Nanny May came in with dirty dishes that
needed washing. "Aren't you going out today?"
It struck Daisy that she'd promised Georgina to talk to her mother. She handed the spoon to Nanny
May. "Keep an eye on it. Ask Bridget to send some to the hospital after it's done."
Nanny May stirred the soup and laughed, "You prepare soup with high calories for her every day. Is she
willing to have it?"
"She will thank me when she has the delivery." Daisy thought of something and chuckled, "She's in a
good shape. These soups won't make her fat. She's just having swellings recently."
She knew that the swellings got worse as the due date neared.
Nanny May smiled but didn't say anything. She knew that Daisy now found everything about Arya
adorable because she sincerely liked her now.
Nanny May leaned over and said, "Do you think this daughter-in-law is a treasure?"
"Of course," Daisy said proudly, "The woman my son loves can be in no way mediocre."
"Well, you're walking on air"
"Don't tell anyone. Keep it to yourself." Daisy patted Nanny Joy. "I'll go."
Daisy got into the car. Then she asked the driver to send her to the place she frequently went to.
She, Georgina's mother, and another woman in their circle used to be close friends and hang out
together a lot. Later their sons had got married and they had to stay at home to look after their
grandchildren.
After ten minutes, the car stopped. It was a quiet restaurant offering afternoon tea. She rarely came at
this time. There were few guests now.
"Madam, what would you like to have?" Daisy was a frequent customer, so the manager came to
welcome her as soon as she walked in.
Daisy waved her hand. "I have an appointment."
"With Mrs. Taylor?"
Daisy nodded.
"This way please." The manager ushered her in.
He led her to a table separated by partitions and gestured towards it. "She's waiting for you inside."
Daisy walked in and saw Georgina sitting alone. Her mother was not there.
Seeing Daisy, Georgina rose to her feet. "Morning, ma'am."
Daisy frowned slightly. "Where's your mother?"
"My mother is sick and couldn't come here, so I came on her behalf to apologize to you."
Daisy had nothing to say to Georgina who was much younger than her.
So she said, "Since your mother didn't come, I should go now."
"Wait..."
