Chapter 139
Chapter 139
Coralie Chariott paused when she heard about the driver.
In fact, she was indeed puzzled by the elusiveness of this matter. The accident did happen, but no one
uttered a word about the driver involved, nor what happened after.
However, Coralie had always presumed that this matter had been resolved when she was recovering in
the hospital. Hence, she would not have known anything even if there was something strange about
the matter.
When Franklin Moore mentioned the driver, the initial doubts rose to the surface of her mind again.
"Is there a problem with the driver?"
Coralie asked Franklin.
Franklin noticed her heightened attentiveness to this matter, so he immediately answered her in a grim
tone, "Yes, there are a lot of problems."
"Tell me."
Coralie went over to him.
However, Franklin pointed to his car and offered, "I'll tell you while we eat."
Coralie looked at the car, still hesitating. Franklin stared at Coralie standing there in ambivalence, so he
could take a good guess at what she was thinking. Then he opened his mouth, "Coralie, Skylar had
driven you away and he is now getting engaged to Valerie. What are you afraid of?"
The unconcealed reality of his sentence pierced into Coralie's heart. Initially, she hesitated because of
her consideration of Skylar Holland. She was afraid that he would misunderstand her if she were to
have a meal with Franklin.
However, when Franklin reminded her about the fact that she had tried to avoid all along, it finally
dawned on her that...
Yes, she had nothing to do with Skylar anymore. Why did she have to concern herself with that man?
"Okay, let's go."
Coralie opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat.
After Franklin got into the car, he buckled on his seat belt and asked, "What do you want to eat?"
"Anything."
"Anything? Okay, I'll decide then."
Franklin was planning to take Coralie to some a high-end restaurant since he assumed his ex-
girlfriends' preferences on her.
However, halfway through the drive, Coralie looked at the familiar street view and saw an old shop that
she knew. She suddenly remarked, "Stop for a while."
When she said that, Franklin parked his car hurriedly on the side of the road. As he scanned around at
the inconspicuous small stores that were spread in front of him, Franklin doubted, "Don't tell me..."
"Let's eat here."
Before Franklin could finish speaking, Coralie had already spoken. She pointed to a restaurant on the
side of the road.
Franklin looked in the direction that she was pointing at and saw a small restaurant called Lane's Diner.
The store was small and it could only fit four tables. There was no queue outside the restaurant.
There was also a sign 'Removal' plastered on the wall next to it.
"Here?"
"Well, I guessed it would be torn down soon. I want to be the last patron before that happens."
Coralie looked at the store with a complicated expression on her face. Franklin seemed to realize
something and did not say anything more. He parked the car on the roadside parking lot and got off
with her.
When they arrived at the door of the store, the owner, who was watching the TV, immediately got up
quickly and greeted them, "Come in, have a seat."
He then handed them a menu. It was just a piece of paper with about a dozen options on it.
Both Coralie and Franklin soon settled into their seats. She pointed at the menu and ordered, "I would
like the fish and chips and mashed potatoes," Then she asked Franklin, "What would you like? The
owner's skills are top-notch. Although there aren't many varieties, the quality is excellent."
Franklin looked at the menu and thought of how common the dishes were. He then pointed at the menu
and replied, "I'll have this, the garlic butter fish."
"And two glasses of water please!"
Coralie said happily.
After ordering the food, Coralie tossed the question to Franklin again, "Tell me about the driver."
"The driver did compensate for the accident, but he didn't go to jail."
"Didn't go to jail? Paid compensation?" Coralie couldn't believe it, "The Rae family is not short of
money, yet they are willing to settle for a mere compensation?"
When her father was met with a car accident, the other party tried to settle the issue using money.
Even her family refused to let the matter off so easily. However, her family couldn't afford to pay for a
lawsuit, so they finally accepted the compensation in the end.
"Yes, I also thought that it was strange, but at that time, there was indeed something wrong with the
car. The brakes failed," Franklin stopped for a moment and said, "I went to investigate the driver. He
was the owner of the black car and it was the car that he would usually drive."
In short, there was nothing strange.
The only strange thing was that the Rae family had chosen to agree to a settlement.
"Did Skylar agree to it too?"
"Since the Rae family has agreed to it, he probably did too."
In fact, this was not a big matter. Franklin just wanted to have dinner with Coralie, so he came up with
this idea.
At this moment, the owner served the dishes before them and asked, "Let me know how it tastes."
Coralie picked up a piece of fish and took a bite. Then she said, "It's delicious! It still tastes the same as
before."
Listening to her words, the owner glanced at Coralie from top to bottom. He frowned and said, "No

boyfriend, didn't you? I still remember that your boyfriend's surname is Holland. He is so handsome
that even my daughter liked him at that time."
Franklin finally understood why Coralie picked this restaurant.
It turned out that this used to be her dating spot with Skylar in the past.
"Yes, I didn't expect you to remember so clearly," When Coralie heard about Skylar, her eyelashes
drooped slightly and disappointment flashed on her face for a moment.
The owner seemed to have realized that he had misspoken, so he quickly appeased her, "Oh, I'm
sorry. Well, many couples from college did break up later in life. Your current boyfriend is just as
handsome as your ex."
Hearing this, Franklin was somehow placated. He took a bite of his fish and praised, "Not only do you
have good taste, but the dishes are also delicious."
While they were eating, Elsa Holland happened to drive past. Franklin's white Maserati was parked at
the side of the road, and it became a particularly eye-catching sight in this neighborhood. She stopped
her car and came down to look around. She then sighted Franklin eating with Coralie as they were
chatting with the owner. She took a picture and sent it to Valerie.
Coincidentally, Franklin and Coralie were sitting across each other. Coralie was listening to Franklin's
words attentively and seemed to hang a faint smile on her face.
Valerie was having dinner with Skylar at this moment.
As soon as her phone rang, Valerie picked it up and looked at the picture. She immediately showed a
surprised expression. She then frowned and put the phone face-down to the table with an unnatural
look.
"What's wrong?"
Seeing Valerie like this, Skylar asked her.
Valerie looked at Skylar and answered as though she was guilty, "Nothing, nothing, someone just sent
me a photo."
She pretended to look worried and reserved, hoping that Skylar would continue to ask her about it.
