Unspoken Encounter
I was waiting in excitement for the last hour. Finally I saw the time had ticked to 11:50, and I was ready to step off from my cage for at least one hour. I knocked on Mr. Alonzo's door. "Yes!" his voice came behind the door.
I opened the door, and peaked in from the creak of the door.
"Sir, I am leaving for Mr. Alonzo's lunch meeting, I will be back after 13:00."
"What lunch meeting?" he asked.
"I don't have much knowledge. He said there is a lunch meeting he will join and he wanted me to join with him, to take notes I presume."
"Where?"
"I don't know sir."
"Text me the place as soon as you get there. Understood?" I hesitated. Is it ethical to inform one of my bosses about the activities of other? He saw hesitation in me. "Understood?" he asked again.
"I don't think I can do this sir."
"Why not?"
"I don't know if he wants this meeting to stay confidential or not. And it doesn't make me feel alright to inform you about his activities without permission from him." "Do you realize that I am your boss? You are supporting him just temporarily."
"I know sir. But I have my own values and this is contradicting those. Even for one month or just one day, he is counting on me and I cannot sell him down the river."
His eyes darkened menacingly. Like he was one minute away from murdering me. But it was getting old really. All these looks and threats, if he was not happy with me, he could fire me. I wasn't going to change my values just for the sake of being speared from his grimaces.
"Okay" he said finally. Cold as ice.
"Enjoy your meal Ms. Wonderful, keep the things in mind that we have discussed this morning. I believe you won't do anything stupid."
I didn't answer this nonsense all over again. I simply nodded and closed the door behind myself.
I went to Matt's office almost running. When I finally made it to his door, he opened the door and found me there fighting to catch my breath from the run I broke up.
"Hey! What's the rush?" he said.
"Sorry sir, Mr. Alonzo kept me talking, so I stayed a little bit late."
"No worries love, there is nothing wrong about being a couple minutes late. I am not my obsessed brother." he said.
I forced myself not to smirk at this comment.
"So, did he inquire with you about the place we are going to?"
"He did." I said. "But I refused to inform him."
"You did?"
"Yes." I said proudly.
"Well done my little angel. You can be the first woman saying no to him in his pathetic life."
I suppressed my laughter again. I was totally team Matt but there was no need to bury my real boss six feet under.
"Shall we?" he asked as offering his arm to me.
I simply took his arm and he led us to the elevator.
We went down to the parking lot and we got in his red Aston Martin in no time. Before I understood what was happening we were on the road already.
"Tell me love, do you like sushi?" he asked.
“Yes, I like sushi very much Mr. Alonzo"
"It's Matt when we are out of office and I know a perfect place for sushi." Was he taking me to a sushi restaurant since I like it, or was the meeting already set there? "Has our meeting been set in a sushi restaurant?" I asked.
"It is now!" he said.
"If you could tell me the attendees, I can quickly update them about the meeting place?"
"No need, love. Everyone who should know where we are going, already knows it."
"O..Okay" I said I was totally confused but I didn't say a word. Finally he pulled his car to a modest sushi restaurant. It was not just a sushi restaurant, it was my favorite. "Woahh!" I said in surprise.
"Do you know, this is my favorite sushi restaurant in town!" I squeaked.
"How convenient." he said with a knowing smirk written all over his face.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

We went into the restaurant and sat at a table for two. I blinked several times in confusion.
"Maybe we should choose a bigger table? To make room for other attendees?"
"Ahh love, no one else will join us. I brought you here to have lunch with me."
"What? Why?!"
"Because I like sushi too."
"You lied to me Mr. Alonzo?"
"It's Matt, love. Not Mr. Alonzo, and I didn't want to lie to you. But my ill-bred brother would never let you go if he knew it was just lunch for the two of us."
I grimaced at the idea of having a private lunch with him. I was finding him attractive. God, he was a special edition. But in this life, where I was just an ordinary assistant and he was a heir, we don't have any future. And I was not eager to jump into something if it has no promise for the future. Besides, he was my boss for God's sake.
I stood up in my place.
"Sorry Matt, I cannot do this. This is wrong." I said. My hand extended to my purse on the table. He catched my wrist.
"Why? Wouldn't you eat lunch with your co-workers?
"I would, but you are not my coworker. You are my boss."
"No, not in the lunch breaks. You are totally free during breaks." He widened his forest green eyes into the most convincing begging-pupil eyes I have ever seen.
"Please love, have lunch with me. I don't bite, you know. Not if you don't want me to." he smirked again.
I released a big breath and sat back on the chair. He clapped his hands with excitement and asked for the menu. After giving our orders, silence fell onto the table. I averted my gaze to not to face him. His handsome face was confusing me. But he kept his stare on me all the time. Finally he broke the silence.
"So, Alice Wonderland. It's quite a name huh?" he said.
I giggled involuntarily.
"Yeah, that is a nightmare that my father thinks is cute." he giggled this time.
"I think it's charming," he said.
"Thank you. I think I am still lucky. My youngest sister's name is Bunny."
He was sipping his water while I was saying that. It caught him off guard and he sprayed the water all over his shirt and broke into laughter. I laugh with him too. When he finally managed to breath normally again he continued, "So you have a sister?"

"Two actually, I also have a middle sister. She is the luckiest one among us who has a normal name thanks to mum. Her name is Rachel."
"How is it to have sisters?"
"It's the most delightful thing in the world. They are my sunshines. I don't know how the world would be without them."
"So you are lucky." he said longingly. I couldn't keep myself but asked the first question came into my mind.
"Why are you two like this? Why are you fighting all the time?"
"Me and Anton?"
I nod.
"Well I don't know exactly what happened to us. We weren't like this all the time you know. When we were kids I adored Anton. He was my role model. I was following him everywhere in our childhood house like a duckling. But in time, the nature of our relationship has changed. He had hard times to digest that I was not a kid anymore, and I was capable of accomplishing things just as good as he does. It started a competition between us. Everytime one of us accomplished a thing, the other tried to exceed it. And it has severed all brotherly feelings between us in years I guess."
He was talking so genuinely and so frankly, I couldn't help but admire him one more time. He was a real man. Capable of talking about his feelings and knowing how to enjoy life. Meanwhile our orders came to the table. We dug in with a grand appetite. I ordered California Roll and Maki Roll. He ordered Spicy Tuna Roll and Rainbow Roll. Little did he know I had to taste all of them including his sushi. Because when it came to sushi, I had no limit.
I extended my sticks and grabbed a piece from his plate. He looked at me with unbelieving eyes, but before he swallowed his bite and protested me I already sent down the piece.
"Hey you! Stay away from my plate!" he said, pointing his sticks threateningly to me with one hand and covering his plate with the other.
I swallowed the sushi in my mouth and stuck out my tongue to him. He tried to catch my nose with the sticks in return but I avoided his attack on time and grabbed another piece from his plate by using this distraction and stuffed that into my mouth too. He opened his eyes wider in shock then broke into another laughter. I laughed hard too. We kept teasing and poking each other throughout the meal. Finally when both of our plates were empty and both of us managed to steal a quite large amount of sushi from each other's plates, the waiter came and picked the empty plates.
I rubbed my stomach with contentment. He looked at my gesture and laughed again.
"You know, you are the first girl I have ever met who eats as a normal person."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Every girl that I know or had eaten together, was always eating as much as a bird. I was always wondering how they survived, but thinking it was about being a girl. But now I saw you and I know they were not normal."
"So you have seen a lot of examples of girls eating less, and you are considering me as normal? Haven't it occurred to you that maybe I am eating too much?"
"No, you are healthy. I believe it must be the right way. But I must admit I have never had to protect my plate with my life before." "Well you were missing so much, this always makes the dishes more delicious."
"Indeed, I was missing so much." He said, with a deep dreamy voice. As if he was meaning something else. Our gazes collided and both of us stopped still. His green eyes were like a meadow under the afternoon sun. Shining and reflecting the beams of life. I found myself deep in those gaze. We didn't even dare to breathe. One twitch was all it takes to break the magic and none of us were volunteering to break it yet. I couldn't help but gulp. He followed the bob of my throat going up and down, then his gaze landed on my lips. Even though the table was standing between us solid still, I was almost feeling his lips on my mouth. I let this feeling stay for three more seconds, two, one... And wake up Alice!
I turned my head with a tremendous will power and looked out of the restaurant. He cleared his throat as well.
"Check please!" he said as a last sentence on our unspoken encounter.
