When the Boss’ Lady Became His Sister-in-law

Chapter 92

Kristin kept mum.

“Trust someone from the FitzGerald family? Don’t forget who landed you in prison for five years.” On the other end of the line, the man was agitated.

Kristin was silent for a long while before whispering, “Regardless, he’s saved my life more than

once.”

“Pfft… Same old tricks. You’re only a pawn in his game against Nicola and Vincent,” the man warned Kristin. “Leave Rhett out of it,” Kristin took a deep breath, trying to caution the man.

“Ha.” The man laughed before responding. “Fine then. Not often you ask me for favors.”

At the FitzGerald Group, in the CEO’s office.

“Mr. FitzGerald, have you read the news? Someone’s stirring the pot. Now, everyone’s badmouthing Vincent as a bastard child and Nicola as the mistress who clawed her way up. Kristin’s not behind this, right?” York burst into the office, all fired up.

But then, York started to worry. “Mr. FitzGerald, you didn’t have a hand in this, did you?”

Rhett had only asked him to post the video of Vincent assaulting someone online.

With Vincent’s old bar fighting days being dredged up again, he was a hot topic and stayed at the top of the trending searches.

The FitzGerald Group was caught in the eye of the storm, too.

Taking on Vincent was risky for Rhett since any glory or scandal would affect the entire FitzGerald family. But Rhett had agreed to help Kristin.

“Has Nicola been giving Kristin trouble these past few days?” Rhett tossed the documents on

his desk.

“Nicola’s too scared to even step outside now, let alone cause trouble.” York chuckled, recalling how Nicola had always tried to present herself as a high–society lady. However, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t erase the fact that she was a homewrecker who had climbed her way up as the other woman.

“But, Mr. FitzGerald, there’s word about the bodyguards involved,” York whispered.

Holcomb was planning to have someone take the fall.

“Is everything in place?” Rhett raised an eyebrow.

York nodded, taking a sharp breath. “Are you planning to let Vincent do time?”

Rhett had anticipated that Holcomb would try to pin the blame on the bodyguards and had already approached them beforehand. So, they wouldn’t dare to take the fall for Vincent so

easily.

Everyone had families to think about.

“Of course not. I’m waiting for Holcomb to come begging to me.” Rhett leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping the desk lightly.

With Nicola also entangled in the scandal, she couldn’t afford to make any rash moves. With no one willing to take the fall for them, there was only one path left for them, which was through Kristin.

Glancing at the time, Rhett stood up. “Let’s head to the hospital.”

Without other options, the Turner family would send someone to mess with Kristin.

At Silvergrove Hospital, Kristin leaned against the headboard and called Garner.

Summer was back to school. No one dared to trouble him again, and the teacher and the principal had personally apologized.

Moreover, Garner’s boss seemed to be a kind lady. She had visited the school to see Summer and hugged and kissed Summer several times in front of all the teachers and kids.

That certainly made Summer quite the center of attention at school.

Melissa’s family might not hold a candle to the FitzGerald family in Silvergrove City, but Melissa was an exception.

Melissa’s ex–husband was a wealthy tycoon, said to be from a dangerous family.

“Kristin, you do have a way with things, huh?” The door to the hospital room swung open as Mamie and Johnnie showed up personally.

Clarence followed behind, not looking too pleased.

Kristin had guessed it. Mamie and Johnnie were here to ‘persuade‘ her.

“Are you going for revenge after getting out of prison? Trying to get back at the FitzGerald family for framing you for extortion all those years ago?” Mamie sat elegantly on the sofa, her voice deep.

Johnnie’s face was just as stern. “Withdraw the lawsuit, now. Stop playing these games. And with Adrienne, drop that case, too. Apologize to the Haywood and FitzGerald families!”

Johnnie’s tone was commanding.

Kristin felt a burning sensation in her eyes and managed a misty smile. “Mr. Turner, on what grounds are you ordering me around?”

A father? Hadn’t they already cut ties?

We raised you for twenty years!” Johnnie slammed his

hand on the table, seething with anger.

“I decided to let bygones be bygones as you agreed to donate a kidney to Ruby. But I see you’re ungrateful and far too ambitious!”

Kristin’s fingers clenched her clothes tightly as she looked up at Johnnie. “The Turner family. raised me for twenty years, had me locked up for five years on trumped–up charges, and let Clarence throw me to a stranger’s bed, ruining the rest of my life. And that’s not enough. You want my life in exchange?”

What had she done wrong?

Clarence blanched, looking up at Kristin involuntarily. “I didn’t…”

Kristin scoffed sarcastically. “Didn’t you send Ruby and Vincent to catch me in the act? Even if you weren’t the mastermind, when I was crying out for help, did you, my brother, come to my rescue? No, you didn’t, did you?”

He didn’t deserve to be a brother.

Six years ago, she was drugged and dumped in a strange room, barely conscious. To stay awake, she cut her leg with a piece of glass, desperately pounding on the door for help.

Clarence was right outside.

Maybe feeling guilty, his breathing was tight, hands clenched, head down, not saying a word in

his defense.

He was indeed right outside that door. Not only did he not rescue Kristin, but he also called Ruby and told her to bring Vincent over to ‘catch them in the act‘.

He figured the marriage alliance with the FitzGerald family would go up in smoke if Vincent got the wrong idea, and Vincent would crawl back to his sister Ruby.

Vincent would break up with Kristin and call off the engagement.

But he never expected the media to show up, and that just wrecked Kristin’s life.

Nor did he expect that night would leave Kristin pregnant, and she insisted on having that little bastard.

He did have regrets. He tried to convince Kristin to get an abortion, wanted to hide her away. and promised she’d never want for anything for the rest of her life.

But Kristin was resolute in her refusal to end the pregnancy. She was determined to have the baby.

“So, you meant you were out for revenge, starting your vendetta?” Mamie sneered, shooting Clarence a glance. “Clarence, get out.”

Clarence didn’t want to leave. He feared what Mamie might do to Kristin.

He felt it was enough already. Torturing Kristin to this point was enough.

“Get out!” Mamie stood up, fury in her eyes, staring down at Clarence. “I’ve told you many times

12:10

that she is not your sister. They’ve ruined your sister’s life! Ruby’s life is already wrecked. Kristin’s death wouldn’t matter!”

Mamie hated Kristin’s guts.

Kristin knew it.

Slowly unclasping her fingers. Kristin spoke bitterly. “I won’t drop the lawsuit. Adrienne won’t let me go, neither will Vincent.”

“Kristin, you’re on a suicide mission,” Johnnie sighed.

Did Kristin think she could shake up the wealthy families of Silvergrove City with her abilities? She was delusional.

“With the shape I’m in, forcing me to donate a kidney is like pushing me to my death.” Kristin’s voice trembled. “I know I owe the Turner family. I thought what I’ve done over the years would be enough.”

If it weren’t for Summer, she wouldn’t care if she died, but with Summer around, she couldn’t just die. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

“Ruby’s condition is getting worse. Her depression is all thanks to you. Enough? In your dreams,” Mamie’s voice came with emotion. “Kristin, you owe us for the rest of your life.”

Kristin gave a numb smile.

She also wished she could give her life to the Turner family.

Death would be a release for her.

That way, she could finally be free of this burden.

But she wanted to be there for Summer as he grew up.

Anyway, with her terrible health, she didn’t have many years left.
