When I Met You

Chapter 39 Holding Ruby in his Embrace

Chapter 39 Holding Ruby in his Embrace

Susan was really confused by what Jarvis was saying so she could only blink at him while her mind

raced to put together what had actually happened last night.

No matter, whatever effort she was putting in didn’t yield any result. Everything was a blur in her mind.

She felt like she had just woken up from a dream, and she could recall every detail of that dream the

moment she awakened from it, but when she tried to retrieve those facts now, she found it impossible

to recall anything to her disbelief.

Susan couldn’t help but knitting her brows. C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.

Jarvis simply stared at her and his handsome face was icy cold. He continued to watch her for a long

time without saying a word.

He repeated his words after letting out a sigh, “Leave Edward now.”

Susan was expecting something else, yet in the end he was just reiterating himself. She almost stifled

a laugh.

“Whether I leave him or not, that is my own business. Anyway, why did you end up saving my life last

night?”

Susan really wanted to clear up the confusion.

“Your mother’s experimental surgery is going to be carried out a week later. From the looks of things

now, your mother’s condition is worsening.”

At the mention of work, Jarvis returned to his normal self.

When Susan registered this news in her mind, she couldn’t hide the sadness on her face. She tried her

best not to show any trace of emotion as she said simply, “Can I go now? If you don’t have any

business with me, I want to see my mother now.”

Jarvis nodded and gave way to Susan. Susan opened the door and before she could break into a run,

she saw Stanley standing next to the door. After greeting him with a nod, she darted off.

Stanley let out a sigh after making sure she was gone. He glanced at Jarvis and immediately scolded

him, “You’re useless.”

After saying that, with a smile hanging on his face, he finally left the hospital too.

Susan visited her mother once again in her ward, and from her mother’s face, she was still deep in a

coma. The only difference was that her vitals seemed to be worsening and dwindling away. The more

Susan watch her mother, the worse her mood became.

When she found that she couldn’t bear to watch her any longer, she decided to leave the ward for now.

She originally wanted to exit the hospital, but when she was at the entrance, she saw a man dressed

immaculately in suits waiting for her.

Susan looked at this man with doubt in her eyes. This man was Edward’s driver, Reece.

“What’s the matter?”

Susan immediately concealed her sadness as he approached Reece and asked him.

Reece nodded in her direction before answering, “Mrs. Ford, Mr. Ford informed me that his car was

missing, so he asked me to look for it. I found that it was crashed onto a barrier by a mountain path,

and according to the security guard of the Banya villa, he said that he had witnessed you driving Mr.

Ford’s car last night.”

Susan frowned upon hearing that. She had no memory of such happenings at all.

Reece continued, “Mr. Ford is worried that something has happened to you, so he sent his men to

locate your whereabouts and that is when we found you here. He then instructed me to come over.”

Therefore, his driver was her to make sure she was safe.

Susan put on a faint smile and said, “You can go back now and tell Edward that I am fine. There is

nothing wrong with me.”

When he heard that, Reece finally felt relieved. He gave her another piece of advice, “If it’s not a

bother, please make a call to Mr. Ford and make things clear. He was very worried about you.”

“Alright.”

Susan promised him, but just as she had said that, there was another voice coming from behind her,

“Worried?”

It was Jarvis.

“If he is worried, why don’t he come to see you personally?”

“He is worrying about someone else while lying in bed with Ms. Murray? It seems that Mr. Ford is a

really caring person.”

Jarvis uttered these words with contempt and irony, which rendered Susan a little speechless. She

could only glare at Jarvis.

She then reassured Reece, “You can go now. I will call Edward later.”

Reece shot a meaningful glance at Jarvis but he didn’t say anything. He got into the car and left.

After Reece had left, Susan was eager to leave this place.

However, Jarvis began again and this time he had a serious expression on his face, “Divorce him.”

Susan retorted, “Even if I divorce him, I still won’t be together with you.”

After stating her conviction, she hurriedly left with her high heels clicking underneath.

Susan only called Edward when she was in a taxi, but nobody was picking up at the other end.

She thought that Edward was busy so she didn’t continue calling him.

That day, Edward never returned home. He didn’t even send her a message informing her of this fact.

In the past, Edward would definitely text Susan to inform her if he wouldn’t return home, but he never

texted her this time. Susan assumed that he would return anyway, so she patiently waited for him at

home to the point that she even drifted into sleep. By the time she woke up, Edward was still nowhere

to be seen.

At that moment, a message was blinking on Susan’s phone: Today, Ruby is going to perform at the

school.

Susan immediately shoved the matter about Edward to the back of her mind as she went to prepare.

Susan put on an elegant make-up which made her look approachable. She would be loved by kids

today.

After making-up, she made a call to the nanny looking after Ruby and learnt that she had brought Ruby

to the children activity centre. Susan immediately hailed a taxi to that place.

When she reached the activity centre, she caught sight of Ruby from afar, and when she was about to

go rendezvous with her, she saw Ruby disappearing into the washroom.

Since there was some distance between them, coupled with the fact that Ruby knew how to use the

washroom, Susan naturally didn’t give it much thought.

However, unbeknownst to her, Ruby wanted to perform very well this time, so she had been mulling

over the actions she was about to perform later on. She kept reminding herself about the important

points and practising smiling at the same time until she unknowingly went into the male’s washroom.

Edward frowned at Scott while heading towards the washroom. He complained to Scott, “Don’t ever

ask me to come to this sort of event again. I have no interest in kids.”

Scott bore a wide grin on his face as he ignored Edward’s words, “You should support what I am doing,

right? It wasn’t easy to secure myself a job like this. Since I was able to organize a talent show that

encompasses the whole city, I reckon you should at least show yourself!”

“And besides! I used to organize something like this in the past, but no one turned up. Later on, I asked

the workers to print your photograph and label you as the judge on the posters, which caused a frenzy

amongst the mothers of those children. They didn’t hesitate to send their children to join!”

“See, I have branded you as the judge, and I have spread the word far and wide. If you didn’t show up,

it would mean that my efforts would be in vain… Don’t you think so, Edward?”

“You can choose not to include me in your promotions next time.”

When Edward said that, he turned around and saw a tiny girl dressed in a white dress who was

seemingly walking towards the male’s washroom.

He ramped up his pace and just when Ruby was about to enter the washroom, he swept her off her

feet.
