Chapter 23 His Mind Wandered Off
Chapter 23 His Mind Wandered Off
Amber leaped to her feet at once, too shocked to speak a word.
Liam glanced at the windbreaker and her exposed thighs. In a frosty tone, he questioned, “Are you
short of cash at the moment?”
Although Amber could not decipher the emotion behind his eyes, she could detect the contempt and
annoyance in his voice.
“What’s his problem? Since I’m not prohibited from taking a part-time job according to the agreement,
why can’t he just leave me alone? Why does he think he has the right to mock my life?” she thought.
Amber clutched the windbreaker and held it closer to her body. She met Liam’s gaze and responded
coldly, “Of course I’m short of money. Otherwise, why would I have agreed with the deal with you?”
Liam frowned slightly when Amber referred to their relationship as a deal.
“Do you think it’s fine to wear such a revealing costume in front of so many people because it’s a deal
too?” What he said startled Amber.
“Did he catch me on the runway just now?” she wondered. Feeling annoyed and ashamed, Amber
noticed rage burning in Liam’s penetrating eyes.
Liam was scrutinizing her, and he did not try to make it subtle.
Amber was not wearing any shoes at the moment because her feet were injured.
The maroon-colored carpet on the floor made the skin of her feet look even fairer. When Amber noticed
Liam staring at her feet, she shrunk away out of instinct and felt a pressing urge to hide her feet
somewhere.
She had no idea why she was feeling so flustered at the moment.
Her legs and thighs were exposed too, but it did not make her feel as awkward and embarrassed as
revealing her feet.
She knew he despised her and looked down upon her. He had that air of superiority because he was
born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
Her face reddened with fury because she felt she was humiliated.
Liam had the upper hand in the situation because he was fully clothed.
After taking a deep breath, Amber strutted toward the door with her head held high. She did not even
spare Liam a glance during the process.
His air of superiority would not affect her as long as she did not give it a damn.
Liam had no intention of making way for her.
“Excuse me, you’re in my way.” Her tone was so formal and courteous as though she was speaking to
a total stranger.
Liam only stared at her without uttering a word.
They were standing so close to each other that Amber could catch the faint smell of his cologne, which
he had only started wearing ever since Mia was back.
That was the power of true love.
How Amber wished she could pull off the same disdainful smile on Liam’s face too.
No matter how hard she tried, a disturbing feeling deep down inside her was stopping her from smiling.
At last, she spoke with fortitude in a slightly quavery voice, “Mr. Croft, please make way for me because
I need to get out.”
Meanwhile, Liam was studying her face. Determination was shining in her eyes, and conviction was Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
written all over her face. The expression made her look unapproachable enough to keep any strangers
at arm’s length.
“Am I a stranger to her too?” Liam wondered. For a moment, his mind wandered off.
