Chapter 541
Yvette saw how Zachary was bound by ropes and dangling precariously over the bridge. He looked as if he might fall into the river anytime soon. She was instantly at a loss for words.
Derek said, "Our boss said that we'll let the boy go if you promptly leave Tirion, Ms. Snyder. The boy will die if you refuse to leave."
Yvette replied without any hesitation, "Alright, I'll leave. Please let him go!"
Derek did not let Zachary go but continued as Zoey had instructed. "I can't just buy your words like that."
Yvette drove toward the river and said, "What do you want me to do then?"This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Derek asked, "Do you have a knife with you?"
Yvette looked around. "I don't."
"Then find something sharp to cut your face," Derek said. He had worked for Gemma for half of his lifetime. It was his first time threatening a woman to disfigure her face using a child. He sighed inwardly. Derek wasn't expecting Yvette to agree readily. The next thing he knew, he heard a scream from the other end of the call.
She had removed her earring and forcefully cut her right cheek. Blood started trickling down her face. "I...I've cut my face now. Please let my son go!"
Yvette wasn't sure what grudge the other party had against her, all she cared now was Zachary's life. As long as he could remain alive, she could even give up her life for him.
Such was the instinct of a mother-she was not afraid of anything when it came to her child.
"Who knows if you're just faking it? Send me a video!" Derek demanded.
Yvette could only send him a video as she drove.
Derek opened the video and was amazed by her determination. He immediately sent the video to Zoey.
Zoey was beyond delighted when she saw the video. "Let's see how she's going to seduce Jerry with that scar on her face, Mom!"
Gemma calmly glanced at her. For some reason, her heart ached. Perhaps it was because she had experienced something similar herself.
She said, "Alright, that's enough, Zoey. Let's give her a quick end."
Zoey refused to let it end so quickly. "Isn't her left cheek still perfectly fine? Get her to cut her left cheek too, Derek!"
Derek thought that Zoey was completely spoiled. He couldn't bear seeing a mother suffer like that again.
He looked around and noticed that someone was about to come and rescue Zachary. He said, "I can't. The Shaws and the Lanes are here now."
Zoey couldn't help but feel
disappointed. "Alright then. You can let the child die now." To her, the lives of others didn't matter-they were just a matter of an order.
Despite receiving the order, Derek found himself reluctant to obey it.

Zachary also knew that they truly wanted him dead. Hanging there, he turned to look toward where Derek was hiding and decided to make one last-ditch effort.
He asked, "How did you get the scar on your face, mister? It must have hurt back then, right?"
Derek's heart clenched upon hearing the question. He dared not answer Zachary's question nor look at him.
Yvette's call came in just as he was about to get someone to cut the rope.
She said, "I've already done what you wanted. When are you releasing my son? Please! I'll do anything you want, just please let him go! You're a father too, right? I'm begging you, please!"
Derek grew even more reluctant then.
Meanwhile, the live news had all the viewers on edge, anxious for Zachary's safety.
A viewer commented, "Who was this ruthless to have targeted a child?"
Another wrote, "What a sweet-looking child! Let's hope nothing happens to him!"
Someone replied, "You're right-what an adorable child! He's also very calm. He's not even crying at all."
