Chapter 2069
Chapter 2069
"You don't trust me!" Gary suddenly laughed, but it was one filled with bitterness.
"Yeah, I don't trust you," Celeste replied as if she was trying to convince herself as well as Gary.
Celeste repeated it again, ever so serious.
Her words were enough to push Gary to the brink.
Gary smiled. Suddenly, he stopped and his eyes were filled with sorrow and despair. This time, as if he had made up his mind, he said, "If that's the case, I'll see you off back to Boston."
Celeste was shocked and she looked at Gary, flustered. "If I leave like this, Aunt Grace will know!"
"She won't." Gary interrupted Celeste's words resolutely. "To her, it doesn't matter who her daughter in law is as long as her son is happy."
Celeste was astonished.
Right.
Gary was right.
However, why did he suddenly say that?
Things were changing again.
"But we agreed to go back to Boston together after the break." Celeste wasn't sure what he meant, so she wanted to confirm with him.
It was ironic that she wasn't sure why she was confirming it.
Perhaps she was reluctant to part with him.
"That's right." Gary said, "But now I feel that it's very exhausting to be in the same room as you, pretending as if everything is fine." Celeste frowned deeply, confusion filling her eyes. Gary was getting rid of her.
"You're chasing me away?"
Gary seemed very calm as he smirked. He looked as if he did not care about her at all.
"Since we're going to part anyway, why not do it now?" His voice was steady, but it made Celeste panic.
Celeste sank her pearly white teeth into her bottom lip as she chewed hard on it.
She didn't know what had happened that made Gary so anxious to send her away.
Reason told her that she shouldn't leave.
However, Celeste knew that Gary's self-esteem had taken a huge hit after what she said.
She nodded. "Okay, when will I be leaving."
"Tomorrow," he said.
"How about Aunt Grace?" She wanted to ask about how she would explain it to Grace.
Gary interrupted her and said, "You don't have to explain anything. I'll see you off right away after you visit Cindy tomorrow."
Celeste was speechless.
Go back to Boston, huh?
She didn't have a place of her own there as she'd been living with Gary the entire time. Now that he was asking her to go back, where would she live?
He'd already exiled her from his side, so how could she keep relying on him?
Fine then.
Since they had to eventually part ways, might as well do it earlier,
Celeste cast her gaze downwards and pursed her lips. "Fine, as you wish."
Gary stood up and said to her, "Let's go back to the main house."
His tall figure walked past Celeste, not giving her another glance.
Celeste's heart withered away slowly. He was so cold.
Hurt filled every cell of her body.
However, she knew that everything was settled.
There was no need for her to struggle.
They were still acting while they were on their walk, but they dropped it when they returned home.
Both of them entered the house separately.
Gary walked ahead without saying a word.
Celeste followed, head lowered. If one looked closely, one would see that her face was very pale.
Before Grace went upstairs, she saw the both of them walking in separately. She greeted them, "Why are you two back so quickly?"
Celeste froze in her tracks upon
hearing Grace's voice. Then, she looked in Grace's direction and smiled stiffly. "It's too cold outside, Aunt Grace. Plus, you should rest. You've sat in the hall for some time."
Meanwhile, Gary went straight upstairs without saying anything.
It felt like he was surrounded by a gloomy aura, and it made everyone want to stay away from him.
Grace immediately noticed something unusual.
She surreptitiously glanced at Gary and Celeste, and she had an idea of what's going on.
She smiled and said to Celeste calmly, "Celeste, I am a bit tired. Help me upstairs, will you?"
Celeste paused for a moment before she nodded. "Sure, I'll help you."
She walked over and held Grace's arm. On the other hand, Grace was shocked at how cold Celeste's hands were.
"Celeste, why is your hand so cold?" Grace figured that something must have happened after they left the house.
"It's cold outside." Celeste seemed sheepish as she tried her best not to show any emotion. "That's why we came home quickly to warm up. Don't worry, Aunt Grace, my hands will warm up soon."
Grace nodded and did not press any further.
In fact, she already knew that they'd gone to Lawrence's villa next door.
Although no one lived there, there was still central heating in the villa so it wouldn't be that cold.
Obviously, Celeste was lying.
Grace couldn't help thinking that something unexpected must have happened.
Celeste helped Grace upstairs into her bedroom. Heinz wasn't inside, so he must be in the study dealing with some work.
Grace leaned against the headboard, and Celeste thoughtfully placed a pillow behind her to support her back.
After taking a good look at Celeste again, Grace found that Celeste's face was still very pale and her eyes seemed a little red.
She said, "Celeste, Gary doesn't have a good temper, but he loves you very much."
Celeste went stiff when she heard what Grace said.
She smiled wryly at Grace. "I know how he feels about me."
Grace was shocked. She didn't expect Celeste to take what she said in stride. In fact, she'd expected Celeste to tell her what happened, but she didn't.
Grace felt that some things needed to be talked out, lest they burdened her.
She looked at Celeste with concern.
Grace wanted to comfort Celeste, so she said, "Hey, I like you, you know. We got along from the moment we met, and I already think of you as my daughter in law. I hope you two are doing okay."
Celeste was very upset after she heard that, and she had no idea how to answer Grace.
A stiff smile revealed itself on her lips.
"Aunt Grace, we're doing just fine."
Grace felt a little helpless. Celeste was obviously pretending to be calm.
She did not intend on waiting any longer, so Grace said, "Celeste, stop hiding things from me. I've been in your position before."
Celeste was taken aback by what Grace said and she felt a little guilty. Did Grace know about what happened?
Celeste felt that Grace didn't know the truth as Gary definitely wouldn't tell his mother about this.
Hence, Grace must have seen the weird interactions between her and Gary and made an assumption. However, she did not know anything for real.
Therefore, Celeste told herself to be calm and not worry.
She had to deal with it calmly.
She took a deep breath and smiled at Grace. "Aunt Grace, there will be some small quarrels between Gary and me, but it's not a big deal. Don't worry You're pregnant, so you test instead. Think of the babies' development."
Grace understood that Celeste was worried about her pregnancy.
Hence, Celeste was pretending in front of Grace because she was pregnant.
Grace felt comforted and distressed at the same time.
Celeste was exhausting herself living like this as she cared more about everyone than herself.
Grace felt very sorry for Celeste. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Grace wasn't someone who opened her heart to just anyone, but she could recognize someone who cared about her.
"You're very kind, Celeste." Grace
suddenly felt reluctant to press for
more answers because she felt that
Celeste had her best interests at heart. If she ignored that, then Grace would be doing Celeste a disservice.
