Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Days later
It was okay to refer to Katherine Peters as an organized person. She was used to having things figured out but for the past couple of days, She felt like an individual with a lost identity. Nothing excited her and neither did She find anything interesting. She went to work as usual and took care of her kids who took most of her time and yeah, her mother’s wedding preparation.
Kathie was brought out of her thoughts by the sound of her phone. She got more comfortable on the sofa, picked up her purse, opened it and reached for her phone. A small smile crept to her lips when She saw that it was her best friend who was calling.
“Hi, love.” Michelle’s happy voice came through.
“Babe. How is it going?”
“Good. You sound tired. Mama’s stress.”
“You’ve got no idea, honey.”
Michelle chuckled, “Tell me about it.”
“The venue for the reception has been changed.”
“Your mom changed it last minute?” Michie said unbelievably. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.
“No. She got ditched by the hall owners.”
“Apparently, the hall was bought by one of Mom’s ex-husband’s daughter, who to date blames mom for ruining her beautiful family. She refunded last minute and said we can’t have the reception there,”
“Wow! That’s brutal.”
“You have no idea. Mom almost went insane. She went as far as calling her ex-husband to talk to her daughter but she refused, calling mom a bitch and a psycho.
Michelle chuckled. “Sorry about that but it’s so true. I still feel She shouldn’t have taken it too far. I mean, the wedding is less than 24 hours and invitations have been sent out.”
“Yeah, I know how bitchy Mom can actually be. Nelly had always hated the fact that her Dad divorced her Mom and then married my mom so this is her only way of getting revenge I guess. Mom actually wanted to sue but we found out we had no grounds. The contract signed with the former hall owners excluded them from any liability including situations like this. Mom did not involve me when booking the event center. She didn’t read the contract so I guess out of too much excitement, She signed it.”
“So sad. I trust your Mom to create a scene.” Michelle chuckled.
“Sure, It was so hard getting her away from the hall.”
“So, what’s going to happen now?”
“An email and a call notice will be forwarded to everyone on the guest list. We will use our backyard for the reception. The decorators will arrive very early tomorrow morning to start decorating.”
“Beatrice must be so disappointed.”
“You’ve got no idea, babes. Especially after She had done her best to make sure everything went smoothly and perfectly.”
“But your mansion’s backyard is gorgeous too. I’m sure after the decorations, everything will come alive. But I can’t believe your step-sister would be capable of doing such.”
Katherine chuckled. “My step-sister indeed. I’ve honestly lost count of how many I’ve had. I never try to build any bond with them because I know it was only temporary and besides, Who would want to befriend the daughter of the woman who snatched their father?”
“Oliver Gusto?” Michelle teased.
Katherine rolled her eyes.
“Since the wedding’s tomorrow, Have you decided what you’re going to do already?”
“Yeah. Since he would be in attendance, I won’t have any choice but to cross paths with him. But I will only talk to him if he makes the first move to talk to me. Our conversation will then decide if I would tell him about the triplets or not.”
“You don’t sound worried anymore.” Michelle couldn’t help but say
“Yeah. I recently realized Oliver isn’t worth my worries or any sleepless night. I’m sure as hell that he wouldn’t recognize me and even if he does, he would probably pretend and not talk to me. And if he manages to talk to me and I tell him about the kids, I’m so sure he would be in denial. So yeah, there’s no point worrying for nothing. He’s just an asshole”
“You hates him so much, don’t you”
“Hate is a strong word, babe. I guess I only regretted being entangled with him that night but on the other hand, My triplets were conceived and I cannot imagine my life without them.”
“It seems you and him can never be on good terms but no matter how bad it gets, Just let him know that his flesh and blood exists.”
“I’m so damn sure I wouldn’t even have to get to that conversation,” Kathie said in all confidence.
“If all you’ve said about Oliver is true then that is so terrible about him.”
“Yeah. He has money, fame and looks but everything else about him is disgusting.”
“So how’s your mom holding up?”
“She’s pretty heartbroken. But she will be fine. She’s still saying she would sue Nelly for destroying her wedding. I doubt She’s going to let go. If there’s anything so important to mom, then it’s her reputation. She was literally kicked out to go have her wedding reception elsewhere.”
“That’s sad. But I hope she concentrates on her wedding for now.”
“Yeah. We are at the bridal shop for the final fitting. She’s taking forever to come out of the dressing room. We still need to go to the chef’s place for the final tasting.”
“I wonder how perfect your Mom’s first wedding would have been.”
“I do wonder too because, at this point, all I can say is most of her actions are ridiculous and really unnecessary.”
“So you will still be able to make it to my place tonight?”
“Yeah. I’m bringing the triplets over. As the bridesmaid, Mom would definitely want me to be by her side all day tomorrow so I think it’s best they be with you tonight.”
“Yeah, before I forget the main reason I called. What’s Sophie’s shoe size? I’m confused because the last time I saw her she said most of her old shoes no longer fit her”
“Michelle!!” Katherine groaned.
“If I don’t spoil my goddaughter, who will?”
“You can easily mistake her closet for a child’s boutique.”
“Come on, just tell me the size. I didn’t call you to tell me stories.”
“Fine. She wears 13. But make sure you buy only one pair.”
Michelle chuckled, “I will try.”
“Michieeee.” Katherine groaned.
“Bye babes, I can’t wait to see you all.” Michelle ended the call before Katherine could say anything else.
Almost immediately, Beatrice’s voice came through. “So how do I look?”
Katherine rolled her eyes, tucking her phone in her purse. “Took you long enough to....” She stopped mid-way when she raised her head and saw her mother.
Beatrice giggled at her daughter’s reaction.
Katherine opened her mouth to say something but She was lost for words.
“I’m glad you settled for this, ma’am. It fits you perfectly.” One of the sales reps said.
“I’m glad I chose it too. I was already having a bad day that made me feel like canceling the wedding but this dress just made everything beautiful.”
Katherine rose to her feet and walked towards the circled stage where her mother and the sales representatives were. “I didn’t think I would be saying this, especially after you rejected the dress I personally chose for you but you look really gorgeous in this,” Kathie said, not taking her eyes off her mother.
At 47, her mother still looked very beautiful. No doubt it was her beauty and sexy body she was using to charm every man she had ever been with. And she looked so gorgeous in the gown she was wearing. Kathie felt like tearing up as a couple of scenarios were going through her head. But She was able to get hold of herself to stay focused.
“Andre wouldn’t be able to take his eyes off me when he sees me. As well as every other guest.” Beatrice cooed.
“Definitely,” The sales representatives said in unison.
Katherine rolled her eyes at them all.
After admiring the dress on herself for a couple of minutes more, Katherine spoke, interrupting her mother’s conversation with the sales reps. “Mother we still have somewhere to be.” She reminded.
“Sure, I’ll be right back.”
Once her mother was out of sight, Katherine occupied herself with her phone and in exactly twelve minutes, her mother was out with the biggest smile on her face.
“Your wedding dress did a good job in lifting your spirit huh? Your looks could literally kill when you entered this shop.”
“Yeah, no doubt but I got another good news when I was in the changing room.”
“Andre got you another gift?” She asked, thinking of what could make her mother smile so bright.
“No. I would be happy too if that was it but it’s not.”
“Then what is it?” She asked dryly.
“Oliver.” She said, the smile not leaving her face.
“There we go again.” Kathie rolled her eyes.
“He called to let me know he’s almost at the house.”
Katherine stared at her mother with wide eyes, her expression showing nothing but fear.
