Are you hoping I stay
Letta gazed at Marco in disbelief as he casually refused and altered the agreement that Letta had previously thought through on her own.
“You can’t just change it like that. You need my approval,” Letta said, only to receive a dismissive response from Marco, as if Letta’s opinion didn’t matter to him.
“I’ll make a more reasonable agreement than this,” Marco said, causing Letta to stare at him incredulously. She was about to grab the paper that had been in Marco’s hand without getting up from her seat. But as she moved, she had to bend slightly and shift the table in front of her. This action widened Marco’s eyes.
“Hey, what are you doing? Don’t you remember who’s in your belly? Can’t you be more careful?” Marco said firmly, looking towards Letta’s stomach. Letta was slightly startled. To her, she wasn’t endangering anything. She was just making a sudden movement, but Marco’s reaction seemed exaggerated.
“You can’t just move around recklessly with your body. What if something happens to the baby in your belly? Can you take responsibility for that?” Marco said, making Letta sigh in frustration.
“I know what I have to do, so stop nagging. Just give me the agreement today. At least I should see it. What did you write?” Letta said with an incredulous look.
“I will work on it my way and make this agreement legally binding. If either of us violates it, there will be fines and compensation. How about that?” Marco said, making Letta shake her head.
“It can’t be like that. At least tell me what’s in the agreement and what you added,” Letta said.
“Some important points for you to consider regarding the child,” Marco said, making Letta seemingly unable to argue anymore. Finally, Marco got up from his seat and looked at Letta.
“Alright then, after we’re done with our business today, it’s better for you to rest. And remember, never be late to take your vitamins. I’ve instructed Desi to manage all your schedules,” Marco said, making Letta just nod. After all, she couldn’t argue about anything while she was in that house. Everything must have been arranged by Marco and executed properly by Desi, who, according to Letta, was Marco’s best right-hand person.
Finally, Letta stopped in her tracks as she saw Marco about to descend the stairs.
“Where are you going?” Letta asked, as it was already late at night.
“I’m going home. Where else would I go?” Marco replied, causing Letta to fall silent.
“Why? Are you hoping I stay in this house?” Marco asked, looking at Letta with raised eyebrows, prompting her to shake her head.
“Of course not. I was just asking. I thought you might be returning to your office because you still look neat,” Letta said, trying to find another excuse. For Letta, even though Marco lived at his parents’ house, it wasn’t an issue. These past few days, she had been living without Marco around, and it made her feel more comfortable. Although she felt a little bored because she couldn’t leave the area to go for a walk, Marco still didn’t allow it.
“Next time, maybe I’ll stay here,” Marco said, causing Letta to shake her head.
“No need. I was just asking. You don’t need to force yourself if you don’t want to stay here. I’m comfortable living here alone,” Letta said, making Marco look at her suspiciously.
“Hey, just so you know, the day after tomorrow is our wedding day. Shouldn’t a married couple live in the same house?” Marco said as he walked closer to Letta. However, Letta seemed completely unimpressed, and instead, she looked at him with narrowed eyes.
“And, didn’t you also say that our marriage would be kept secret? You wouldn’t expose me, would you? I don’t want that either. I don’t want myself and our baby to be exposed by others, including your family, at least for some time in the future as we’ve agreed,” Letta said, making Marco fall silent. It would indeed happen, as after giving birth to their baby, Marco would take full custody of the child from Letta. Marco remained silent for a moment before finally turning back.
“Then you can go back to your room. And remember, don’t stay up too late. If you need anything, you can talk to Desi. I’ve told her to do whatever you want, as long as it’s within the limits of my instructions to her,” Marco said, eliciting no response from Letta. Letta already knew that was what Marco would say to her.
Then, Letta heard the sound of Marco’s car moving away from the house’s yard. Letta closed the window curtains before opening the balcony door. At least through this balcony, Letta could breathe fresh air without any restrictions. Letta gazed towards the dark sky, with a few shining stars, making her realize that recently she had been spending more time gazing at the night sky than before, which had been mostly spent working.
Suddenly, Letta remembered the possibility of her weight gaining. She smiled to herself, thinking about how she might get a bit chubby with a growing belly. It would surely look funny, Letta thought as she caressed her stomach. Letta still couldn’t believe that there was a fetus living inside her, but just imagining it made her smile even wider.
“It seems I’ve started thinking about the name I will give you,” Letta said again. Somehow, every night when it came, she always felt at peace just by being still on this balcony. Sometimes, Letta truly felt that her life at this moment was truly solitary. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
Before, she could still contact or exchange news with Abian, but now Letta’s time was truly leisurely. She closed her eyes, trying to feel the breeze brushing through her hair. At least, she had to feel peaceful for herself and not do anything that would make herself or the fetus stressed.
