The True Heiress's Return

Chapter 205

Shakira's sharp gaze swept over Yvette and Felix as she stepped forward to shield the tiny kittens.

Sensing hostility from the humans at the door, the kittens hid behind Shakira, huddling into little balls. The sight melted Shakira's heart.

Yvette, chilled by Shakira's cold stare, instinctively edged closer to Felix, clutching his shirt hem with a pitiful, pouty look.

She said, "Felix, I didn't mean to harm the kittens, but this is a hospital. They could carry viruses, and patients here have weak immune systems. This is also Dr. Lonely Bird's office. Keeping them here could interfere with his work." Felix's expression was equally frosty. Lonely Bird was his idol, a genius he admired deeply. This was his chance to meet and work with him, so anything related was important to him.

Every word Yvette spoke hit his sore spots. With a warning tone, he said, "Shakira, you're just a gofer and have no say in this office. If you want to keep the kittens, take them home. Don't dirty Dr. Lonely Bird's place." Shakira almost laughed at that. "Right back at you, Felix. What qualifies you?"

The sarcasm in her voice made Felix lose his composure. "Shakira-"This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

"What's going on here?" Kevin's irritated voice came from the hallway, growing closer. "Don't you know this is a hospital? Why are you shouting?"

Entering with a scowl, he stopped when he saw the confrontation. He thought, 'Why didn't anyone tell me Dr. Lonely Bird is inside?'

Yvette and Felix didn't notice the slight annoyance on Kevin's face. Eager to tell her side, Yvette put on her most delicate voice, complaining about her good intentions being misunderstood.

Yvette said, "Mr. Jones, you came just in time. This temporary worker hired by the crew ignores hospital rules and insists on keeping stray cats in Dr. Lonely Bird's office. We simply can't convince her otherwise."

Kevin frowned. He thought, "Temporary worker? Do people from the Nelson family look down on people like this?' His expression wasn't pleasant, but Yvette thought he was upset with Shakira and waited to see her reprimanded. Before Kevin could speak, Shakira said, "Mr. Jones, I'll take care of the kittens. They won't interfere with the hospital or filming."

Kevin relaxed, thinking, 'I am confident in Dr. Lonely Bird's judgment. "Alright, do what you need to do," he agreed without hesitation.

Yvette, expecting Kevin to deal with Shakira or even throw her out, almost lost her composure. She wondered, 'How could this be happening?'

Kevin was known for his pride, turning down top actresses in the industry. Even when Rebecca brought Yvette to visit him, he was courteous but still had his principles.

But to let Shakira, just a temp, get away with this was beyond Yvette's imagination. "Mr. Jones, but..."

"But what? This is Dr. Lonely Bird's area. He'll handle any issues. Why are you making such a fuss?" Kevin had run out of patience. "Why are you even here, can't find the medical offices?

Yvette instinctively explained, "Mr. Jones, you misunderstand. Felix has admired Dr. Lonely Bird for a long time and wanted

to-"

But Kevin had no patience left, cutting her off curtly, "Even if it's for a reality show, every doctor in this hospital must fulfill their duties without any negligence.

"If you're unwilling to cooperate and keep disrupting the order, my little production crew can't afford to host such bigshots."

Kevin's words were dripping with sarcasm. Even though they were in an office, with Shakira present, and plenty of staff, nurses, and patients pecking in from the hallway, Yvette felt her dignity stomped into the ground by Kevin.

Shocked and furious, she wondered if Kevin had lost his mind, unfairly siding with Shakira and even lashing out at them. 'Does he not acknowledge the Nelson family?'

Even Felix had never experienced such stringent cold-shouldering. He straightened his back, suppressing the urge to walk out, and humbly apologized, "Mr. Jones is right; we overstepped our bounds."

Casting a glance at Shakira's impassive face, he slightly bowed his head. "Sorry for the disturbance." With that, Felix grabbed Yvette and led her out.

Kevin closed the door and turned to face Shakira, looking apologetic. "Sorry, Dr. Lonely Bird, for the trouble you faced."

Shakira gently cradled the kittens in her hands, their small, furry bodies looking adorable. She nodded gratefully at Kevin, "Sorry for troubling you, Mr. Jones. It was my fault."

"Nonsense, this office has always been reserved for you by the hospital, Dr. Lonely Bird. It's usually unused, with regular cleanings. The recent drop in temperature probably made the stray cats find it cozy and settle here," Kevin explained. Noticing the messy office covered in tiny paw prints and the makeshift nest of printer paper, it was clear the stray cats had been living there for a while.

Seeing the joy on Shakira's face as she glanced at the kittens, Kevin chuckled, "Didn't expect Dr. Lonely Bird to be an animal lover. How about taking them home?"

Shakira shook her head. "They have a mother. I shouldn't take them. She'll probably come back for them."

Kevin nodded, "That makes sense."

Shakira said, "No worries, I can handle this myself. You go ahead, Mr. Jones."

"Alright then, I'll go check on other things. Oh, and we have a new investor joining us today. There's a dinner meeting tonight. Would you like to join us, Dr. Lonely Bird?" asked Kevin.

Anticipating Shakira's refusal, Kevin quickly added, "Mr. Goodman will also be there. It's just a chance for the crew to get together, no one will know your real identity, Dr. Lonely Bird."

Shakira replied, "In that case, I'd be happy to join. Thank you, Mr. Jones."

After Kevin left, Shakira made a temporary nest for the kittens on the window ledge outside. Luckily, it was on the first floor, and there was a little platform below the window. The kittens snuggled up warmly inside a box. Shakira also ordered some milk powder and cat food, planning to feed the kittens until their mother returned.

By the end of the day, there was still no sign of their mother. Shakira, still worried, set up a camera outside the window connected to an extension cord, allowing her to monitor the nest and the office.

As she finished, twilight had already set in. She gently stroked the soft, furry heads of the two kittens, feeling warmth in her

heart.

"I'm leaving now. Be good and wait for your mom to come back Shakira said.

The kittens responded as if understanding her.
