Chapter 242 An Accident

She felt a bit odd because she hadn’t seen the producer Alvin around.

“So that’s the case. How can I put it? I just felt like someone was missing.”

“I have to thank Lamont for this opportunity. Without him, I don’t think I could have made it here.”

Amelie smiled slightly upon hearing this, then turned her gaze to Lamont on the other side.

At the press conference, many reporters asked questions one after another.

The host kept searching for topics to promote the show.

Amelie was very cooperative throughout and, as time went by, the audience became more and more

excited.

The signing ceremony followed shortly.

Amelie had experienced some rumors and negative comments, and although things had improved somewhat after the success of the show, there were still some anti-fans in attendance.

However, Amelie didn’t care about these haters’ opinions. She knew she couldn’t change their minds, so she focused on her true fans who approached her with autograph requests.

Looking at the exquisite photos on the prints, Amelie was pleased. “My fans are like family. If I treat them well, they will love me more.” Amelie thought.

Amelie took the pen and signed the prints for her devoted fans.

Suddenly, a woman rushed towards Amelie and splashed water on her before anyone could react.

Amelie immediately stood up. It was grateful the water didn’t get in her face, but her outfit was now

wet.

“Get this person out of here.”

The staff reacted immediately and hurried forward to surround Amelie.

“Amelie, are you okay?” someone asked.

Amelie was suddenly drenched with water, and chaos ensued at the scene.

Amelie was still a bit dazed, but gradually regained her senses.

She quickly looked at her clothes and then sniffed them lightly.

“Fortunately, it’s just ordinary water, not concentrated sulfuric acid. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to stand here now,” Amelie thought.

She gently patted the water droplets off her clothes and looked at the person who had splashed her.

The splasher was a young girl who stared at Amelie with a fierce glare.

Amelie thought to herself, “How much does she hate me for acting out in front of so many people and not even worrying about the consequences?”

The bodyguard came over upon hearing the sound, and held the girl.

Some people were even preparing to call the police.

Amelie thought, “This is a press conference after all. If we make a big deal out of this, the consequences could be unimaginable.”

So Amelie quickly approached and tried to stop the person who was about to call the police.

But Lamont stopped her.

“Don’t be impulsive,” he said.

“But…”

Amelie wanted to say more, but she was pulled aside.

“Although you have gained many fans through this drama, some people still remember what happened before. Even if you can’t bear to see that little girl being taken away, you can’t show any

kindness at this time.”

“I understand, but she’s just a little girl, and she looks very young. Do we really have to turn her over to the police?”

“If we don’t, then what? Are we just going to let her attack you again? And it might not even be her

next time.”

Lamont’s reminder prepared her for the worst.

After the girl was taken away, the scene returned to calm.

Mr. Garcia stood stunned in his place, not expecting this to happen.

Cynthia walked over and asked with concern, “Amelie, are you okay?”

“I’m fine. It’s just water. She’s still young and probably won’t do anything too extreme.”

“It’s good that you’re okay, but you still need to be careful. You never know what those people might do to you next time.”

Even Cynthia felt this way.

Amelie didn’t refute her, feeling that what she said made sense.

The press conference ended with tension.

Amelie went to the dressing room and began to remove her makeup.

Lamont walked in and looked at Amelie in the mirror, smiling fondly.

“You look good without makeup. You don’t need it.”

“Mr. Byron, please don’t joke with me.”

Amelie purposely concealed her relationship with Lamont as there were other people in the dressing room who had their eyes fixed on Lamont.

“I’m not joking. I’m telling the truth,” said Lamont as he sat next to her.

Some of the employees nearby were shocked to witness this scene, as they had never seen such intimacy between Lamont and Amelie, even though they knew Amelie was an artist of Prosperity

Global.

“What are you doing? I told you not to get too close to me when we are here,” Amelie whispered.

“Are you still trying to hide it?” Lamont responded.

“I’m not hiding anything!” Amelie retorted in a low voice.

“I don’t care whether you are hiding anything or not, I will stay with you here, and I will take for supper tonight.” Lamont insisted.

“I don’t eat…” Amelie replied.

Amelie swept her hair up and gave him a warning glare, telling him not to push his luck.

However, Lamont remained unconvinced. He was eager to be by Amelie’s side and even more eager to make their relationship public.

“Amelie, there you are. I’ve been looking for you for ages,” Cynthia said as her voice appeared at

the door.

Amelie breathed a sigh of relief and quickly got up to walk towards Cynthia, thinking to herself, “Cynthia is my savior.”

Lamont was forced to remain silent and sat quietly on the side.

“Let’s go out for a midnight snack later. I know a great barbecue place that isn’t too crowded and has private rooms, so no one will recognize you,” Cynthia suggested.

“Sure, sounds great,” Amelie readily agreed.

“Mr. Byron, would you like to come along?” Cynthia asked.

Of course, I’d love to.”

Amelie was surprised and looked at Cynthia in disbelief.

“How could we take Mr. Byron to a barbecue place? He’s never had barbecue before.” Amelie objected.

“Why wouldn’t he like it? Don’t assume that about Mr. Byron.” Cynthia laughed and glanced at Lamont. She knew exactly what she was doing.

Cynthia deliberately made the suggestion to give Lamont and Amelie some alone time.

Cynthia thought to herself, “Given Lamont’s usual behavior, who knows when he will finally ask Amelie out?”

At this point, it was too late for Amelie to refuse.

After finishing their preparations, they hurriedly left. Just as Amelie was about to take a nap in the car, the door suddenly opened again.

Amélie noticed someone sitting next to her and recognized the familiar scent of cologne.

Amelie quickly looked over, and it really was Lamont.

“Why did you follow me?” Amelie asked.

“I thought we were going to grab a late-night snack together,” Lamont replied with a smile.

“You don’t even like grilled food. Are you sure?” Amelie asked.

“What makes you think I don’t like it? Let’s go,” Lamont said.

Amelie felt speechless inside, but Belen, the driver, didn’t want to delay any longer and quickly drove away from the hotel.

They arrived at a crowded barbecue restaurant in the western part of the city, but thankfully,

Cynthia had reserved a private room in advance.

After changing into all of her clothing and equipment and putting on a mask and hat, Amelie finally

got out of the car.

Once they were in the private room, she finally took off her mask and breathed a sigh of relief.

“It’s so stuffy wearing a mask in this weather. It’s not easy being a star. Even going out for a meal requires constant vigilance,” Amelie said.
