Chapter 240 Leila’s Transaction
Amelie thought it was just a coincidence, and she wouldn’t have any interaction with Leila. However, as she was about to leave the restroom after washing her hands, she happened to run into Leila who was also heading there.
They didn’t greet each other.
“What are you doing here?” Leila asked irritably.
“This is a restaurant, a public place. Why can’t I be here? Ms. Aylward, you must be joking,” Amelie replied, not
wanting to pay too much attention to Leila.
“Ms. Mullen, wait a minute. Why are you in such a hurry to leave? Don’t you want to catch up with me?” Leila asked.
“Catch up with you? Are you kidding me? What do I have to catch up with you for?”
Amelie replied, eyeing Leila mockingly. Her sharp gaze seemed to tear her apart.
“Amelie, just because you have Lamont’s affection now doesn’t mean you can act recklessly. It’s only temporary. Your Mullen family has fallen so low. Do you really think the Byron family would be interested in you? Do you know what like should marry like means? I am the most suitable match for Lamont. My advice to you is to know when to give up.
Otherwise, the consequences will be more severe,” Leila warned.
“Is that so? Then I don’t quite understand. If it’s really important to match social status, then why is Lamont treating me differently?” Amelie asked.
After speaking, Amelie looked towards her private dining room.
Leila quickly understood what she meant.
“Is Lamont here too?” Leila asked.
“Of course, your Lamont is here too. What’s wrong? Do you want to join us for dinner? But you seem to be busy. Who’s that man with you? Is he your new lover?” Amelie mocked.
“Shut up! You don’t have any right to talk about me. What does it have to do with you?” Leila snapped.
“Oh, of course, it has nothing to do with me. I’m just concerned, that’s all. You keep saying that your heart only
belongs to Lamont, but in reality, you have so many secret interactions with other men. I really can’t figure you out,”
Amelie retorted.
“Amelie! Don’t speak ill of me. He’s just a friend. You must leave immediately, and you cannot dine with Lamont,”
Leila warned.
“Why?” Amelie sneered at her, feeling like she was looking at a clown.
“When is it someone else’s turn to dictate my life, Leila? Who do you think you are? Don’t let me see you again.
Otherwise, it won’t be as simple as this next time,” Amelie glared at her before leaving.
Leila stood still, stomping her foot in anger.
Her purpose in coming back this time was for Lamont, but so far she hadn’t achieved anything, and she felt very upset
about it.
Her goal in coming back this time was for Lamont, but so far she had not made any progress, and her heart was heavy.
Amelie returned to the private room, her face was looked very unpleasant, and she did not saying a word.
Lamont, being attentive, quickly noticed that Amelie was upset and kept glancing at her from time to time.
“What’s wrong? What happened?” he asked.
“Are you kidding me? If it weren’t for you, would I be so angry?” she retorted. From NôvelDrama.Org.
Lamont was taken aback, thinking he must have misheard.
“Who did you run into?” he asked.
“Your fiancée! Who else could it be?”
Lamont finally realized the situation and regained his composure.
“Don’t mind her,” he said.
“Don’t mind her? I know you don’t want to ruin your relationship with her, especially since Willard is her father. But still, she can’t be so brazen, and I just saw her getting very close to a man, as if they were plotting something. You should be careful with this woman. She’s not simple,” Amelie warned.
Amelie took a sip of water and suppressed her anger.
“Don’t worry. I’ve already arranged for someone to keep a close eye on her every day,” Lamont said.
“If I had known that you had already taken care of it, I wouldn’t have been so worried,” Amelie replied helplessly, then
looked at her phone.
Just then, the waiter arrived with their food.
Lamont had ordered the restaurant’s signature dishes, which Amelie thought looked good.
“Try it out. The food here is supposed to be excellent, and the owner is a friend of mine.”
“Your friend?” Amelie was a bit surprised, so she glanced at him.
“Yes, my friend. I have quite a few friends, and they come from all walks of life,” Lamont said.
Amelie’s seemingly playful remark was actually just a passing comment.
After dinner, the two of them planned to chat for a while, but Lamont suddenly received a phone call.
Lamont’s expression grew more serious as he listened to the conversation.
“Okay, I’ll hurry back,” he said before hanging up the phone. Lamont seemed preoccupied after the call.
Amelie noticed that something was amiss and glanced at the time.
“Is there something going on at work? You should go back and handle it,” she suggested.
“It’s nothing, really. My subordinates have discovered some information.”
“What have they found?”
“It seems that the person behind the attacks on Cynthia and Emilee is connected to the Aylward family in many ways. However, I can’t be certain if it’s Willard or not because we lack solid evidence. There are only some clues, which are not enough to bring him down completely.”
“I knew it was Willard. He won’t just give up like that. His motive is probably to disrupt my plan and defeat the Mullen family completely.”
“Maybe not. Perhaps he just wants to target the Springer family. Willard is a calculating and ruthless individual who is not easy to deal with.”
“He’s probably feeling pretty proud of himself after causing all of this trouble.”
After speaking, Lamont picked up a glass of water and took a sip.
“Then let’s not give him any more chances. We should press our advantage, and perhaps we’ll have some success.”
“Do you have a plan?” Lamont looked at Amelie seriously.
“Of course, I do.”
In the private room, Amelie and Lamont discussed their strategy.
Meanwhile, Leila was sitting across from a man, but her mind kept wandering.
Every time Leila thought about the ambiguous relationship between Lamont and Amelie, she felt unhappy.
‘Are you going to agree or not?”
The man looked at Leila with a cold expression, his voice filled with anger.
“It’s not a matter of agreeing or not. I already said 2 million dollars is enough. If you keep pushing me, you won’t get anything at all.”
“Ms. Aylward, are you trying to back out of our deal?” The man was displeased.
“You’re the one who’s backing out, not me. We agreed on 160,000 dollars, but you raised the price. I’ve already raised
it to 200,000 dollars, and you’re still not satisfied. Do you think Leila is someone you can push around? I’m the heiress of the Aylward family, a prominent conglomerate. Do you really want to mess with me?”
