Chapter 454
Chapter 454
Once Harold returned to Birchwood College, he found himself running across the backfield.
The whole scene played out like some sort of comedy. Cordelia knew about it, Ronan knew about it,
and pretty much everyone else was in on the joke, except him. He remembered the scene as if it was
yesterday. Before college started, Cordelia stood at the school gate in a sundress, and her skin was so
smooth it reflected the sunlight. The image took his breath away.
Cordelia, Cordelia…
He fell for Cordelia at first sight. He finally found someone he liked, but she was the one person he
shouldn’t have fallen for.
It wasn’t that Cordelia was off-limits because she was married and had a child. The kicker was her ex-
husband was Ronan. Harold had a good relationship with Mr. Evans, Cordelia's ex-husband, but the
man hadn't said a word about his wife's past. Harold assumed Mr. Evans was waiting for his mom to
handle the situation.
While he was lost in these thoughts, Harold's phone buzzed. It was a message from Janice. [Listen,
kiddo, Cordelia belongs to Mr. Evans. Don't meddle in their business. I understand their situation, and
it's best if she handles it. Forget about Cordelia. There are plenty of other fish in the sea. Do you really
think you can compete with Mr. Evans?]
Harold continued to run as he tossed his phone aside.
He lost count of how many laps he ran. His body was drenched in sweat. Exhausted, he sat down to
rest. Someone handed him a bottle of water.
When Harold looked up, he saw Samantha standing there. Samantha had just finished filming a late-
night scene and had noticed Harold running earlier.
"Samantha," Harold said, looking up at Samantha.
"Did you lose count after fifty laps?" Samantha sat down next to him.
"I lost count. I just felt like I had all this energy I couldn't get rid of," Harold responded, panting and
sipping water. "You knew, didn't you?"
"Knew what?"
"That Cordelia's ex-husband was Ronan. You're her cousin, right?"
"Well, yes, I knew. But that was a long time ago. Who would bring up her ex-husband when someone is
pursuing Cordelia?" Samantha said, defending herself.
Harold didn't reply.
Samantha thought to herself, “This is good. I’m not the one who spilled the beans; Harold found out
himself.” Now, she was curious to see how Alana was going to handle this.
"Do you still plan on pursuing her?" Samantha asked him.
"It's over. I won't pursue her anymore. It would make her uncomfortable, and it would put my mom in a
difficult position. I thought her rejection was just her playing hard to get. But that wasn't it," Harold said, This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
staring into the distance. He then gave a bitter laugh. "I never stood a chance, did I? She already has a
child."
Harold's words made Samantha see him in a new light. He chose not to pursue Cordelia to spare her
embarrassment and to avoid putting his mother in a tough spot.
Samantha and Harold sat there in silence. As long as he stopped pursuing Cordelia, it would create an
opportunity for Samantha. As for how Cordelia could part ways with Ronan, that was up to Alana to
figure it out. After all, it wasn't her responsibility. It was Harold's mother who had to step in. Moreover,
Cordelia was the one who had sought out Harold's mother.
"Right, she's your teacher, and she has a child. Her past is tied to Ronan. Half her heart already
belongs to him. Even if you did win her over, you'd only get half a heart. It's a shame, really. You're a
good guy," Samantha said, pretending to sympathize with him.
Harold sat there, holding his bottle of water, gazing into the distance.
