The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 259

Chapter 259

Cordelia was at a loss, unsure of what Ronan was trying to convey. She really didn’t know what to say,

and what not to. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

Ronan left for the living room.

Cordelia called Jamie into her bedroom. His eyes fell on the bed. There used to be only one pillow on

Cordelia's bed, but now there were two. The other side of the bed was indented in the shape of a

person, indicating who had been sleeping there.

So, they had shared the bed again.

“Happy New Year, Boss,” Cordelia said, running her fingers through her long hair, intending to tie it up.

Her hair had grown longer.

Jamie gave a stiff smile. “Happy New Year, Cordelia. I went to church with my mom this year. She got

you a pendant and blessed it, hoping it will keep you and the baby safe.”

He then took out a beautiful pendant, wrapped in gold and hanging on a gold chain.

“A blessing?” Cordelia was surprised. She didn’t know much about jewels and couldn’t tell its quality,

but it looked pretty. She hadn’t visited many churches before and had no idea that they offered such

exquisite items.

“Yes, my mom specifically had it blessed. She’s a devout Christian. Want me to help you put it on?”

Jamie asked.

Ever since Cordelia got pregnant, she had become superstitious. Any mention of keeping the baby safe

intrigued her. “Sure.”

“You mustn’t take it off once you wear it. Otherwise, it loses its charm,” Jamie warned.

“What?” Cordelia was surprised, “Why didn’t you say so earlier?”

“If I had, you wouldn’t have agreed to wear it.”

Had Jamie mentioned it earlier, Cordelia would have given it a second thought. After all, she was living

with Ronan now, and wearing such an ostentatious pendant would stir his curiosity.

“Oh, I came to discuss something important.” Jamie changed the subject. “The representative from

PrimeBuild Contractors, Hunter, has agreed to sign a three-year contract with us. For these three

years, he specifically wants you to handle their account. Cordelia, it seems your work is impressive.”

Cordelia was taken aback.

“Not interested?” Jamie asked her.

Cordelia thought for a while, then told Jamie about her application for post-graduate studies at UC

Davis. “If he insists that I handle the account and I leave for my studies, it might breach the contract

and cause unnecessary trouble for the firm.” Cordelia expressed her concern.

“You plan on pursuing post-graduate studies? No one doubts your qualifications, Cordelia. Your abilities

speak for themselves,” Jamie reassured her.

Jamie assumed that with a baby on the way, Cordelia might have given up on further studies. But

clearly, her education was something she was not willing to compromise on. “It’s not about them. It's

about me lacking confidence,” Cordelia admitted.

“Have you received the offer letter yet?”

Cordelia furrowed her brows. “Not yet.”

“Don’t worry. It usually takes one to four months for them to respond. It could happen anytime.”

Cordelia felt relieved and nodded.

“Cordelia, I respect you, you know that?” Jamie looked at Cordelia’s youthful face. “You never gave up

on your dreams.”

Cordelia only smiled.

“How about this, I’ll explain your situation to Hunter and let him decide?” Jamie suggested.

Cordelia nodded. “Alright.”

Jamie and Cordelia chatted for a while longer.

“Today being New Year's Day, don’t you want to go out? I can go with you.”

Cordelia was initially delighted, but her smile faded quickly. “Janice has gone home, and if I go out

alone, he probably won't allow it.”

“Then, should I leave?” Jamie asked as he stood at the door of Cordelia's bedroom. “Don't miss me too

much.”

Cordelia wondered, was Jamie saying this intentionally for Ronan to hear? As she stepped out of her

bedroom, she noticed Ronan, who was watching TV in the living room, his temples throbbing.

Cordelia saw Jamie to the door and then retreated back to her bedroom. She was afraid of Ronan,

afraid of interacting with him. So, she stayed in her room studying, chatting with her classmates on

Messenger, and binge-watching TV series.
