Chapter 143

“Every word that leaves your mouth is about your mother, yet I don’t see you treating your sister well. I guess it’s no wonder you’re your mother’s dearest daughter!” Gordon uttered angrily and dashed straight into the room. He came out shortly with a photo album in hand.

Rosalie froze. The album belonged to Tracy and contained many photos of them together.

Gordon instantly produced a lighter and used it to light up the album “Since you can’t seem to tolerate your sister leading at good life, you don’t need to have this. Your mother wouldn’t even want a daughter like you!”

The album started to burn and Gordon threw it onto the tile floor.

Rosalie let out a shrick and hurriedly rolled up her sleeves, patting the flames desperately to put them out.

Her thoughts were frantic. “No! I can’t let this burn! This album contains the memories Mother left me as well as her sentiments! I have to save it from being destroyed!”

She had no idea how long she’d been screaming subconsciously. All she knew was to keep tapping the flames with both hands non-stop with all her might to extinguish the fire. Rosalie barely even registered her hands being burnt.

It was as if she’d lost her mind.

Gordon. Caitlin, and Loretta were also taken aback by her behavior.

Rosalie only realized her face was drenched with tears as she stared at the charred and tattered photo album when the fire was finally extinguished.

She staggered forward to hold the alburn against her chest and looked up coldly at the person she was to address as her father.

This man had the guts to sloppily treat the belongings of his deceased wife, a woman whom he’d once sworn an oath to stand by for the rest of his life. This proved she no longer meant anything to him.

It turned out that love would eventually be depleted by time till not even sentiments were left.

Her elegantly pretty face was washed with tears and in a mess, but her almond eyes glared at Gordon coldly.

Gordon was slightly shaken by her daughter’s gaze but tried his best to appear dignified. “W-Who taught you to look at your father like that? So what if I want to burn this photo album?”

Rosalie suddenly smiled, but her eyes turned even frostier. “If Mom were still alive now, she would definitely wonder why she married a bastard like you!”

“Mind your tongue!” Gordon was so furious that he raised his hand and slapped Rosalie hard.

Rosalie stumbled a few steps back at the force of it before she narrowly got her bearings. She still clung on tightly to the battered photo album in her embrace.

“You don’t deserve to be her husband! If you still had any amount of affection for her, you wouldn’t have burned this!” Rosalie spoke with irony.

She turned around with unstable feet and made her way out of the Leighton residence step by step with the photo album in hand.

The three individuals inside the house exchanged helpless glances.

“How could you just light it up like that? Imagine what would have happened if she hadn’t put out the fire in time, and it burned her skin? It would have endangered her life.” Caitlin uttered fearfully.

“As if it were so easy to get scalded.” Gordon’s anger had yet to subside, and he felt his daughter had trampled on his authority as a father. “She would have deserved the burns anyhow!”

“But isn’t she and Jonathan an item now? Wouldn’t she tell on us to him and then exact revenge?” Caitlin was worried.

“As if!” Gordon glared. “I’m still her father, regardless of what happens. I will prevent her from ever finding her mother’s grave if she dares to plot revenge against us!”

Loretta’s head was lowered while she stood at the side. Her gaze flickered briefly as she lamented that Rosalie hadn’t been burnt by the fire just now.

It would have comforted her if Rosalie’s face had ended up disfigured by the tire, as Calvin would never set his eyes upon such a woman

“What a pity!” Loretta sighed internally.

Rosalie had no clue how she reached the bottom floor, as every step she took required all her strength.

Her hands clutching the photo album kept trembling as her emotions were still riled up. Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

At this moment, she lacked the courage to flip through it and see how many photos had been destroyed.

Those were all memories of her and her mother.

A figure stalked toward her while she approached the residential area’s entrance.

An anxious voice tinged with barely concealed concern rang out above her head. “What happened to you?”

She felt a shadow looming above her and a pair of hands supporting her body that was on the verge of collapsing.

“Who is it? Who’s the one supporting me?” she wondered to herself.

Rosalie slowly raised her head and was greeted by a stunning pair of eyes resembling an alluring peach blossom. Its beauty was capable of taking one’s breath away. Like obsidian, their dark pupils were bottomless and indecipherable, which reflected the light.

“What’s wrong?” His shapely brows furrowed upon noticing her tear-stained face, and his heart twisted.

She looked at him in a daze and abruptly smiled tragically. “Jon…” she murmured the name. She couldn’t remember the last time she referred to him in such a manner

It felt like an eternity ago, despite it being several months.

All she saw at that moment was Jon. The one whom she’d depended on for survival, the one she could rely on, and the one she shared her warmth with.

His expression froze briefly before he replied softly. “I’m here.”

“Jon, l-I’m so tired…” she murmured. There was no more strength left in her body to take another step or even cry.

He bent down to carry her bridal style and walked toward a nearby car.

She lay quietly in his arms and did not struggle like before, just like a silent doll.

His eyes landed on the half-burnt photo album in her arms while carrying her into the car.

His eyes narrowed swiftly as it landed on her arms, and he instructed the driver to change directions and head to the hospital.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” Jonathan inquired.

Nonetheless, Rosalie refused to answer and held on tightly to the photo album in her arms.

-An inexplicable pain spread in his chest. He would have insisted on accompanying her back home no matter what if he’d

known that it turn out like this.

A ghostly gleam flashed across his eyes at the thought.

Jonathan stepped out of the car while carrying Rosalie once they arrived at the hospital entrance and hurried to the

emergency room.
