Now the woman he had claimed he was getting married to had gotten married already. He cursed Martin Jones in his mind.

He already knew that there was no way these two Jones daughters could do it by themselves. He could see the hand print of the Hunter family all over it.

He paused at that moment. The Shaw family may be hard to deal with, but the Madison family

was not.

He took out his phone and made a call. Soon, Samuel Madison picked the call.

“You are calling me directly?” Samuel said.

“Your grandson married the woman I was to marry. Do you think this is okay?” he asked and Samuel almost cursed. What was their obsession with this Emma girl.

“You too are obsessed with that Emma Girl?” Samuel asked.

“Should that be your concern? I don’t think I would let this go. You should know how much evidence I have in my hands that can bring you down,” Daniel threatened.

“Are you threatening me?” Samuel asked darkly.

“I am asking you to put your grandson on a leash. I thought we were on the same side. But he partnered up with my enemies. How does that make you look, Mr. Madison?” Daniel asked.

“I will wait for your results,” Daniel said and ended the call.

Richard and his father, Jonathan, stepped out of Emma’s hospital room, leaving Helena to fuss over her daughter–in–law and ensure her comfort. As the door closed behind them, a heavy silence hung in the air, thick with unspoken tension.

It was Jonathan who finally broke the silence, his voice low and grave. “Richard, there’s something you need to know,” he said, his eyes clouded with a mixture of concern and regret.

Richard felt a chill run down his spine at his father’s solemn tone. “What is it, Dad?” he asked, bracing himself for whatever revelation was to come.

Jonathan took a deep breath, as if steeling himself for the words he was about to uitter. “The one responsible for the attack on Emma and Helena…” he trailed off, his jaw clenching. “It was your grandfather, you know that.”

Richard’s world ground to a halt, the air seeming to freeze in his lungs.

“Yes,” Richard answered. His grandfather, the very man who had raised him, instilled in him the values of honor and integrity, had orchestrated the attack that nearly claimed the lives of his wife and mother. It was unfathomable, a betrayal so deep that it angered Richard to his

very core.

“Who else could it be?” he managed to choke out, his voice a mere whisper. “It seems I underestimated him. He could even harm my wife to get his way, I should applaud his cold

heart.”

Jonathan’s expression was one of deep remorse. “He was trying to forcefully abduct Emma, but this is not from a vacuum,” he explained, his words like a dagger twisting in Richard’s

heart.

Richard smiled coldly as he raised his brow. Of course he knew what his grandfather wanted.” To force me to release Diana Hayes,” he said, his voice laced with venom. “That Hayes daughter I locked up earlier today.”

Jonathan nodded grimly. “It seems your uncle still has some men in the city to put this together so quickly.”

Richard’s hands clenched into fists at his sides, his body trembling with barely contained rage. Diana Hayes, had ordered the assassination of his Emma; an act he would never forgive. And now, his own grandfather had stooped to such despicable depths in an effort to get her

released.

“I won’t release her,” Richard growled, his eyes burning with a fiery determination. “Since she had the courage to attack Emma, she should also have the courage to deal with the consequences.”

Jonathan regarded his son with a mix of concern. He knew his son. If provoked he was more ruthless than his father. He hoped he would not be forced to do something out of control. “So what will you do, son? Will you retaliate against the Hayes Corporation?”

Richard’s jaw tightened, his expression one of steely resolve. “I’ve already started the moment Diana ordered Emma’s assassination,” he stated, his voice low and dangerous.

A heavy silence fell between them, the weight of Richard’s words hanging in the air like a thick fog. Finally, Jonathan spoke again, his voice laced with a hint of trepidation. “And what of your grandfather? What will you do about him?”

Richard’s eyes hardened, his gaze like flint. “There can only be pain,” he said, each word cold and unfeeling, that could easily mislead one to think he is not angry.

Jonathan let out a slow breath, his hand coming to rest on Richard’s shoulder in a gesture of support and understanding. “If you need my help, you need only ask.”

Richard nodded, his expression unreadable. “I may take you up on that offer one of these days.

Chapter 182. A falling out.

As father and son parted ways, Richard’s mind was a whirlwind of only one emotion; rage. He had thought he would never have to go this far with his grandfather. But for the sake of Emma, for the sake of their unborn child, he would do whatever it took to protect them, no matter the cost.

Meanwhile, in the opulent office of Samuel Madison, the patriarch of the Madison family, a tense atmosphere hung in the air. The old man sat behind his massive mahogany desk, his brow furrowed in a deep scowl as he glared at the man standing before him.

“What do you mean, the attempt to abduct that little girl failed?” Samuel growled, his voice a low rumble of barely contained fury.

The man, Samuel’s loyal assistant, Mr. Bean, shifted uncomfortably under his employer’s withering gaze. “I’m afraid our operatives were unsuccessful, sir,” he replied, his voice wavering slightly. “They were unable to secure Mrs. Madison.”

Samuel slammed his fist down on the desk with a resounding thud, his eyes blazing with rage. “How could they fail such a simple mission?” he roared, his words laced with venom.

Before Mr. Bean could respond, the shrill sound of Samuel’s phone ringing cut through the tension– filled air. With a growl of annoyance, Samuel snatched up the receiver, his voice a frigid hiss as he answered. “What is it?”

The voice on the other end sent a chill down his spine, the–icy tone of his grandson, Richard, sending a shiver of trepidation through his aged bones. “You’ve crossed a line you can’t go back from, Grandfather,” Richard stated, his words cold and unfeeling. One would have thought he was commenting on the weather.

Samuel felt his jaw clench, his grip tightening on the phone. “You should not have married that woman without informing me first,” he spat, his pride and arrogance clouding his judgment.

“Grandfather, what gives you the most pain?” Richard asked, “you don’t need to answer. I only need to know what gives you the most joy and work my way there. You love that power you hold, don’t you? You love that company, don’t you?”

“What nonsense are you sprouting? If you had not captured that Hayes family daughter, no…if you had not married some unknown girl…” Samuel scolded.

“Company, I wonder if you can save it from me?” Richard asked.

“You are still too young to dream of taking this seat,” Samuel scoffed.

“Who said I wanted it? Because you love it so much, I want to be completely removed from the face of the earth,” Richard answered casually. His words made Samuel go white.

“That is your family legacy. You dare…”

Richard’s response was swift and uncompromising. “From the moment you attacked Emma, you became my enemy,” he said, his voice like steel. “And from the moment this call ends, I will treat you as such.”

The line went dead.
