The Apple of My Eye

Chapter 1993 Bad Things Came In Succession

Chapter 1993 Bad Things Came In Succession

"Sir, I don't know what happened. Vicky insisted on saying that and asked us for an explanation." The

nurse had seen that he was in a very difficult position. She knew that there was no way out of this, so

she relayed what Vicky had said just now.

"Fine. Get out. I need to think," the Head of the Nurses Department snapped. Once he was by himself,

he began to ruminate.

The rattled nurse went straight to Cassie and told her everything.

Cassie, in turn, grew pale as she listened to the nurse's story. Silently, she cursed herself for having

been unable to anticipate that this would have happened. Vicky was far from kind-hearted. She

certainly wouldn't allow people who had done her wrong to go unpunished. Cassie was in big trouble if

Vicky ever found out that it was she who had been making fun of her.

She couldn't help but tremble at the thought.

"Cassie, are you okay?" the other nurse asked. She had noticed that Cassie had acted strangely

several times today. Seeing Cassie this way again made her suspicious.

"Yes. I have to go restock the medicine cabinet," Cassie said abruptly and then rushed away as if

somebody was chasing her.

The other nurse, seeing Cassie's reaction, shook her head involuntarily.

When Cassie was finally out of her colleague's sight, she let out a sigh of relief and patted her chest.

'I'm terrified. What should I do?'

After some thought, she began to accept that this was the way things were going and that she could

not control this. She could, however, plan her next step carefully.

She thought long and hard before deciding against apologizing to Vicky. Instead, she dialed Nick's

number.

Nick had just finished working on a file. When he saw that Cassie was calling, he quickly picked up the

phone with a smile. "What's up? Let me guess. Because you haven't seen me in a while, you're already

missing me."

"Nick, something's wrong." Cassie nervously looked at her phone and then placed it back near her ear.

When Nick heard this, his smile disappeared. Immediately, he felt mild panic and asked, "What's

wrong?"

"I wanted to play a trick on Vicky, but now she's got the upper hand and wants to make the issue bigger

than it is. I'm in trouble. What should I do?" It was clear to Nick that Cassie was not in the best mental

state while she spoke.

"Don't be nervous. I'm coming to see you. Find a place for us to meet and wait for me, okay?" Nick

instructed Cassie softly.

Cassie nodded vigorously. "Okay."

Nick hung up the phone and, without hesitation, rushed to the hospital.

Cassie had expected that it would take Nick at least half an hour to get to the hospital. Much to her

surprise, he arrived in less than twenty minutes.

"How did you get here so fast?" It was Cassie's break. She went to see Nick at the gate.

He grabbed her hand and smiled. "I was afraid that the longer it took me to get here, the more anxious

you would become. I drove as fast as I could. Tell me what happened."

Cassie kept sighing as she listened to Nick speak. For a moment, she was speechless.

"Stop sighing. Tell me now. What happened?" Nick prodded with a gentle gaze.

Finally, Cassie found her voice and told Nick everything that had happened. Afterward, the guilt and

fear returned to her.

Nick grew quiet, seemingly lost in thought.

After a while, he said, "Cassie, it's no big deal. You only wanted to play a little trick on her. We'd better

tell Mr. Lu about the issue. Maybe he can handle it better than we can."

"Ah? Why?" Cassie wondered about what good could come of telling Charles about it.

"Think it over. Vicky will never let this pass, but if Charles knew that you were responsible, he would

help you out, for Sher's sake." Nick sounded confident, but the truth was that he was only gambling. He

was relying on the possibility that Charles still had feelings for Sheryl. If he was right, Cassie would no

longer have to go through this ordeal.

"Really?" Cassie stared at Nick in disbelief.

Not wanting her to feel any more worried than she already was, Nick looked at her as confidently as he

could.

When Cassie saw the look on his face, she tried to keep herself from overthinking. However, she

remained hesitant. She mumbled, "I don't have the courage to contact him."

"Relax. I'll handle it." Nick gave her another reassuring gaze, a signal that she should calm down, leave

it all to him, and get back to work without any worries.

"Are you sure you can do it?" Cassie asked worriedly, seeking Nick's confirmation before he left.

The expression on her face amused Nick. He couldn't help but pat her on the head. "Honey, don't you

believe me?"

She sighed. "I do. I trust you. I'm going back to work now. If there's any news, remember to tell me."

Cassie was filled with regret. She had been happy to play a trick on Vicky, but she couldn't bear the

consequences of her actions.

Because of what had happened, Cassie realized that she should speak and act cautiously in the future, Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

no matter what situation she was in. Otherwise, she was only setting herself up for failure.

After watching Cassie enter the hospital, Nick took a deep breath. He had to wrestle with his doubts

before finally calling Charles.

"Nick, why are you calling? Don't you have work right now?" Charles sounded indifferent, but his heart

was beating fast. Nick and Sheryl maintained a good relationship, and Charles wanted to keep in touch

with the people around Sheryl.

"Mr. Lu, are you free to talk?" Nick was cautious today. Charles noticed that he acted very differently

compared to when they had met in the past.

"Nick, why are you acting so polite? Just tell me what you need." Charles knew that Nick was not the

type of person who acted so urgently. If this was a matter of small importance, Nick wouldn't be calling

at this hour.

Just a few days prior, after Charles and Sheryl's sudden divorce, Isla and Nick had started to keep their

distance. They began treating Charles like a stranger.

"Mr. Lu, since you said that, I won't stand on ceremony. Although you and Sher..."

"Nick, I swear to God, if you continue to beat around the bush and be this polite, I won't agree to

whatever it is you want,"

Charles declared. He had grown frustrated. He had divorced Sheryl, but not of his own volition. He had

been forced to do it, and now, he didn't want to be distant from Nick as well.

"Okay, Mr. Lu. I want to ask a favor from you." Nick decided he had better get straight to the point. He

was only trying his luck anyway. If this didn't work, he had to know so that he could start figuring out

another way out of this.

"Say it." Charles frowned as he waited for Nick to continue.

"As you know, Cassie hates Vicky, so she played a little trick on that woman. But now, Vicky has sworn

to get revenge, and I'm worried that Cassie's going to be in trouble," Nick confessed, unsure of where

this conversation was going. Silently, he waited for Charles' answer.

On the other end of the line, Charles was trying his best not to laugh.

He hadn't gotten the chance to deal with that despicable woman himself, and now he learned that

Cassie had done that for him. If he was being honest, all he wanted at that moment was to extend his

gratitude to Cassie. How could he let her get into trouble?

"I see. Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to Cassie," Charles said before hanging up the phone.

Nick couldn't believe what he had just heard. How could the problem have been solved that easily?

Back in the hospital, Cassie felt restless the whole time. Paranoid, she made sure to keep an eye on

Vicky.

As she was doing so, a doctor came in and asked her to go to the operating room.

"Ah, Dr. Zheng. I've never worked in an operating room before," Cassie confessed as she looked at the

doctor nervously. She felt that bad things were coming to her in succession.
