Swept Into a Fairytale Marriage

Marriage 49

Chapter 49 Everything Comes at a Price

Adrian’s brows furrowed instinctively. “I just don’t want to be cheated on. I don’t want to give the media any chance to spread rumors!” He couldn’t help but feel diffident at his emotional reaction.

“Fine, I’ll be more careful next time “Farrah nodded and agreed with alacrity.

He corrected, “Careful isn’t enough. You need to stop doing it.”

“Alright, I stop. She immediately changed the subject. “Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?” She didn’t want to stir up any more trouble and was keen to steer the conversation away.

After all, he had signed off on the big deal for her today. She decided to play the dutiful partner for once.

“Why do you sound so quilty?” Adrian’s sharp gaze locked onto her. “You’re being way too agreeable”

“You” Farrah was momentarily speechless. “What do you want me to say? I know that it’ll do me no good

to offend you

That was true

Adnan didn’t know what had gotten into him. He just felt extremely displeased and couldn’t let it go. All he wanted to do was to keep pressing her..

He knew she had done nothing wrong

Farrah took out her phone and was about to play the recording.

“By the way, there’s something you should be aware of. The dinner didn’t last for two hours. I did go to the shop and ran into Germaine.” She noticed he didn’t interrupt and continued, “Speaking of which, are you not setting clear boundaries with your secretary? It seems like she’s starting to have the wrong idea about

you”

“Nonsense,” Adrian said in a low voice.

She knew that he would deny it!

“Listen to this yourself.” Farrah then played the recording

“I won’t allow you to get close to him with your tricks! You don’t deserve him!”

“Oh, who do you think you are to keep warning me like this? Have you ever stopped to think that maybe you’re the one out of line?”

“Farrah!” Germaine had flown in rage and raised her voice again, “I’m warning you! You’re not worthy of the CEO! Stop dreaming! Stay out of my business!”

Adrian’s brows creased even more at this point.

“Then stay out of mine too! Who do you think you are?” Farrah retorted on the recording. “You’ve been by Adrian’s side for years. Something would’ve happened by now if there was even the slightest chance between you two! It’s you who needs a reality check!”

Farrah was trying to stop the recording when she heard her own voice. However, she was flustered and took even more time to unlock the phone, which made the situation even more awkward

Adrian had heard the entire thing!

After turning off the recording, she tried to cover up her nervousness and said quickly. “This is not the first time she has warned me like this! Honestly, I’m afraid I’ll lose my patience one day and just tell her outright that I’m your wife! Your legitimate wife!”

Adrian frowned and sized her up. “You certainly have a sharp tongue.”

Her lips curled into a smile. “Thank you, Mr. Locke. I’ll go and make dinner for you.”

With that, she turned around and headed toward the kitchen.

Adrian sat on the couch alone and replayed Germaine’s words in his mind as his expression grew icier.

It was because her tone and attitude had truly caught him off guard.

His mood had improved a lot after dinner. He rarely had the chance to enjoy home–cooked meals. This meal held the warmth and familiarity he had always longed for.

The house was devoid of such warmth before Farrah moved in.

The kitchen was now stocked with ingredients, and the refrigerator was full.

“Aren’t you curious?” Adrian stood by the window and gazed at the vibrant cityscape with his hands behind his back. “I signed off on the deal for you today without a word even though it exceeded the budget by 50%.” All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

Farrah was slightly stunned and was genuinely moved by his gesture. “Thank you. I didn’t know the contents of the deal until later.”

Adrian turned his gaze at her. “Do you think there’s such a thing as a free lunch?”

She met his gaze in confusion and remained silent.

Their eyes locked. Adrian’s lips curled into a faint smile as he sneered. “You didn’t actually think I’m in love with you, did you?”

He was clear–headed at the moment and knew that she was not Sierra.

“I wouldn’t dare assume.” Farrah set down the neatly folded blanket and sighed softly before

straightening up and looking at him again. “If you have something to say, just say it. Stop beating around the bush.”

“Do me a favor,” Adrian said directly. “Make a fresh Sweet Sun that will impress Mr. Lovelace tomorrow” “That’s it?” Farrah was surprised and thought she had misheard it for a moment.

He nodded. “Yes.”

“You scared me!” Farrah breathed a sigh of relief. “I thought you were going to ask for my life!”
