Chapter 926 Ruthless
Could it be that Zeke deliberately gave me a fake memory card to stall me? Is that man determined to
expose those confidential documents and bring down the entire Hoffman family?
“No, you can't do this! Otherwise, I'll resent you for the rest of my life.”
Having said that, she frantically yanked the memory card out of the port and stumbled out of the room.
Upon learning that Zeke and the others were all gathered in the infirmary, she didn't hesitate and
rushed over without a second thought.
Just as she reached the entrance of the infirmary, she saw Bailey, Artemis, and Zeke coming out from
inside.
When the group saw Juliana's anxious and angry expression, they all stopped in their tracks.
Bailey quickly stepped forward, ready to ask her what had happened.
Juliana, however, dodged her, striding past her to confront Zeke directly. She roared, “Must you push
my family to the brink of destruction? And don't even claim it's for my own good because I won't accept
it. I won't be able to live with myself if my family falls because of me.”
Zeke was somewhat stunned, clearly not having caught on yet.
When did I ever intend to bring her family to their doom? Didn't I already give her the memory card that
held eighty percent of the Hoff family's secrets when I returned from the resort?
He said, “Take a moment to calm down and explain things clearly. Your words are coming out all
jumbled, and it's hard for us to understand what you're trying to say.”
Juliana held up the memory card, choking back tears. “The files in here have all been corrupted. How
can I prove that this is the same one Zoey had?”
Zeke furrowed his brows tightly.
The files have been corrupted? But that's impossible.
Ever since he received the brocade box, he hadn't touched the card inside, nor had he entrusted it to
anyone else.
Logically speaking, Zoey wouldn't give him a fake one, and he hadn't tampered with it either. There was
no opportunity for anyone to switch it, so what Juliana received should be the complete file.
“Whether you believe it or not, I didn't tamper with the files. As for why they were destroyed, that
requires further investigation. I won't be able to provide you with an answer right now.” With that, Zeke
reached out to take the memory card from her hand.
Just then, Cameron, who was standing beside him, quickly reacted and pulled him back just in time to
avoid contact with that card.
Zeke regarded him with a perplexed look and asked, “Mr. Yablon, what do you mean by this?”
Cameron remained silent as he fixed his cold gaze on Juliana, or more precisely, on the memory card
in her hand.
The card exuded a subtle smell of blood, mingled with a faint yet recognizable scent of toxin.
It was a scent Cameron was all too familiar with.
Bailey also sensed the unusual nature of the card and quickly pushed Artemis back a couple of steps
before shouting at Juliana, “Julie, get rid of that card right away!”
Startled by her forceful command, Juliana's fingertips trembled slightly.
In the next moment, the memory card slipped from her hand and fell to the ground.
She asked, “Master, w-what's wrong?”
Bailey remained silent, her gaze fixed intently on the ominous black card that was exuding a scent of
blood on the ground. Her expression grew darker by the moment.
Cameron paced up to her, his voice tearing through the silence as he said, “Stop staring at it. Your
guess is right. This toxic aura is indeed a mutated version of the toxin I was afflicted with a few days
ago. This must be the blood of the heart Zoey extracted from her chest. She was turned into a poison
carrier by Kurt, with the most lethal substance being those drops of blood from her heart. The potent
toxin has mutated and is now capable of infiltrating the body through the pores. It seems that she won't
rest even in death. She still wants to drag you all down with her.”
His words had an immediate impact, causing the expressions of everyone present to change
simultaneously.
Among them, it was Zeke whose expression turned the grimmest.
After all, he was the one who had retrieved the card and given it to Juliana. If anything were to happen
to her, he would be held responsible.
Just as he was about to rush over to check on Juliana, the latter suddenly took a few steps back.
“Don't come any closer! Stay away!” After her outburst, she looked at Bailey with tear-filled eyes and
trembled as she asked, “Master, I've been poisoned, haven't I? I've been afflicted by the mutated toxin,
right? It's become dangerous and quite severe, hasn't it?”
So, it wasn't Zeke who had tampered with it... I've misunderstood him.
At the thought of that, she turned her head toward Zeke and said with a face full of pain, “I'm sorry. I
shouldn't have doubted you. Now I'm paying the price for my foolishness, and it's a consequence I
should bear.”
Indeed, if she hadn't sought him out for that card, she wouldn't have been poisoned.
Ultimately, she was the one who brought the whole thing upon herself.
Seeing that Juliana was on the verge of breaking down, Bailey's heart sank as well.
If she loses her will to live, it'll be easier for her to fall prey to dark thoughts.
“Let's not jump to conclusions yet, All right? Everything unfolded so suddenly that it caught all of us off
guard. This isn't your fault, so don't try to shoulder all the blame yourself,” she comforted.
After saying that, Bailey took advantage of Juliana's momentary distraction and swiftly moved in front of
the woman before taking her arm to feel her pulse.
Seeing Bailey taking action, Zeke quickly followed suit, striding over and gripping Juliana's other arm.
At the moment, he was overwhelmed by regret and self-blame.
I really should have been more cautious. How could I have just handed over what I got from Zoey to
Juliana so easily? It's all my fault for losing my temper at the door when I came back. In a fit of anger, I
simply gave her the card.
If he had been a bit more cautious, he would have been the one most likely to be poisoned.
Nonetheless, he was more than willing to bear the consequences of such turmoil, for watching his
woman in pain was even more painful than stabbing his heart with a knife. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
After checking Juliana's pulse, Bailey's expression gradually darkened.
Even though she had mentally prepared herself, she was still somewhat shocked and angry when she
confirmed that Juliana had fallen victim to Zoey's schemes.
Zoey, that vile wench! Even in death, she can't rest in peace. I can't believe she actually set up such a
trap. That being said, I was too careless as well. I assumed that since she spared Zeke's life when they
met, she wouldn't try to kill him later on.
Never in a million years would she have expected that woman to actually take her blood of the heart
and orchestrated such an elaborate trap on the memory card.
That memory card will eventually end up in the possession of either Zeke, me, or Juliana. In other
words, Zoey had no intention of sparing even Zeke from this ordeal. What a ruthless woman! Zeke had
cherished her for so many years, always treating her as his own sister. How could she devise such a
vicious and cruel scheme against him?
Seeing the growing anger in Bailey's demeanor, Zeke gritted his teeth and inquired, “What is it?”
Bailey didn't reply to him. She took out the antidote that Cameron hadn't finished using last time and
poured it all into Juliana's mouth.
She then said, “Zeke, hurry and take her to the emergency treatment room.”
Zeke nodded. Ignoring Juliana's struggles, he scooped her up in his arms and strode toward the
infirmary.
Bailey hurried after him, but just as she took a couple of steps, Cameron stopped her in her tracks.
“If the toxin can invade through the pores, it means it has mutated. The antidote is likely ineffective. We
should focus on suppressing the toxin within her body instead.”
