Chapter 53 It’s Not Good to Talk Too Much
Amanda was packing her luggage in the living room.
There was the sound of the kitchen door closing.
With a “bang,” she shuddered and looked back subconsciously. She just saw Linda dealing with a fish. With a knife raise, she cut off the fish’s head directly.
Amanda felt a sudden chill on her neck, and even her small heart trembled. She quietly avoided her eyes.
Why did she feel like Linda was cutting her as if she were the fish?
By this time, Jamie had already received Iverson.
Iverson had a business meeting in the morning at the International Exhibition Center. He was supposed to have lunch with the partners at noon, but he had turned down the invitation early.
“Mr. Byran, why did you let Linda go to Miss Jewell’s home to cook? Miss Jewell probably can’t get along with Linda. How can you not let Tina go? She’s actually better at cooking than Linda.”
“Tina is too talkative.”
After saying this, Iverson glanced at Jamie and said calmly, “It’s not good to talk too much.”
Jamie shuddered and suddenly shut his mouth.
“Is the boss reminding me?”
Jamie thought for a moment and confessed honestly, “Boss, actually, Mrs. Old Byran asked me a few times, but I didn’t say anything.”
“If Grandma asks you something again in the future, tell her the truth.”
“Tell her the truth?” Jamie suddenly understood.
Amanda hadn’t divorced before. Although they had already gone through the procedure. She was married in the family, so it wasn’t good for many people to know about it. But now that she was divorced, it was customary for a single man and woman to fall in love. Mrs. Old Byran would find out sooner or later.
However, Amanda was still a divorced woman.
“Mr. Byran, wouldn’t it be bad to tell Mrs. Old Byran directly?”
“What?”Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“After all, Miss Jewell had married once, and the older generation is more traditional. Maybe she can’t accept it for the time being.”
“Do I need others to accept my affairs?”
Jamie was speechless.
Looking at his boss’s indifference and stern face, he thought, “You don’t need others to accept you, but at least think about the bride’s feelings. How many women fall in love and get married could not caring about their in-laws’ opinions?”
Initially, he wanted to kindly remind his boss, but when he thought his boss had just said Tina talked too much, he hesitated and shut up.
Soon, it was noon.
Amanda didn’t have a lot of luggage, so she had almost finished packing in half an hour. When the doorbell rang, she was mopping the floor in the living room.
“I’ll get it!”
Even though Amanda knew who it was, her heart skipped when she opened the door.
Iverson must have just arrived from a banquet. He was dressed very formally in a well-tailored suit. The golden cufflinks on his sleeves were gleaming with a cold light.
“Come in.”
She took a pair of men’s slippers from the shoe cabinet and naturally put them on the floor mat for Iverson to change into.
Seeing that Iverson was standing still, she immediately explained, “I just bought them. They’re new.”
Linda was cooking here without saying a word. Hearing Linda chopping vegetables from the kitchen, Amanda felt like she was sitting on pins and needles. She simply greeted and went to the nearby supermarket to buy something; slippers were purchased.
Iverson glanced at the grey checkered slippers in front of him, then at the pair of pink slippers on Amanda’s feet. He changed his shoes with satisfaction.
“Mr. Byran.”
Linda had just finished setting up the dining table. She stood at the table and nodded at Iverson. “The food has just been prepared.”
Iverson nodded slightly. “Thank you for your hard work.”
There were four dishes and a soup on the table. It was a combination of meat, vegetables, color, aroma, and taste.
Seeing this, Amanda couldn’t help praising her from the bottom of her heart. “Linda, you’re so awesome.”
“Thank you, Miss Jewell. I’m glad you like it.” Linda smiled and said to Iverson, “Mr. Byran, take your time. I’m leaving.”
“Don’t go. Let’s eat together.”
Amanda immediately asked her to stay.
Linda took off her apron and said politely but distantly, “Next time. Miss Jewell, if you don’t like anything, just let me know. I’ll improve next time.”
With that said, she left with Jamie at the door.
Amanda tried to stop them, but all she got in response was the door tightly shut.
Only Amanda and Iverson were left in the spacious room.
An awkward atmosphere slowly permeated the air.
“Where is the bathroom?”
Iverson’s voice broke the silence. Amanda hurriedly pointed to the side and said, “Over there.”
Looking at Iverson’s back, Amanda pulled a chair and sat down; her heart was a mess.
Why would she let Iverson into her home for no reason at all?
“That’s not appropriate.”
Iverson went to wash his hands. When he came back, he sat down beside Amanda. A corner of the long table between them was neither too far nor too close.
“Linda’s cooking is good. Try it.”
“Alright!”
Amanda immediately picked up a piece of braised pork chops. The meat was separated from the bone when it touched the tip of the tongue. Although it was not melted in her mouth, it was soft, sweet, and memorable.
“Did you hire Linda from the Chef’s School? The braised pork chops she made are more delicious than the ones I ate in restaurants. It’s amazing!”
Iverson said calmly, “Linda has a master’s degree in finance from Columbia University.”
Amanda choked in an instant.
As one of the top 10 universities in the world with a master’s degree in finance, she was a personal secretary of Iverson in the Byran Group. It could be seen that the Byran Group had high requirements for its employees.
Now that she thought about it, it sounded like a curse when she praised Linda’s cooking.
“Why aren’t you eating anymore?”
Iverson looked at her and asked, “You don’t like it?”
“No,” Amanda shook her head and said awkwardly, “I just don’t think it’s appropriate for you to ask Linda to come to my home to cook. She’s your personal secretary, so it’s natural for her to take care of your meals and daily needs. But will she be dissatisfied if she cooks for anyone except you?”
“You overthink.”
Iverson picked up a piece of braised pork chops and placed it in her bowl. “Linda has never cooked for me.”
“Ahhh!”
Amanda had never expected this answer.
“What do you mean by ‘never cooked for you’?”
“It means this is the first meal I’ve ever had that did by Linda.”
Seeing that Amanda was still in a daze, Iverson said seriously. “Do you think the Byran Group will hire a financial master from a famous university to cook for me?”
“Then why did Linda…”
“Didn’t you want to move? Don’t you have time to go out and eat with me? Then I have to find someone who can cook for me.”
“Linda?”
“I’ll pay her as she works out overtime.”
Amanda blurted out, “pay her for working overtime?”
Iverson was stunned for a moment, but then he burst into laughter. He had always been as cool as an iceberg, but now he was covered with the sun’s warmth.
For a moment, Amanda was also stunned.
When Iverson saw her dazed look, he suddenly reached out his hand and flicked her forehead lightly with his slender and clean fingers. “What are you thinking about?”
“Ahhh!”
Amanda covered her head and abruptly came back to her senses. Her face instantly turned red.
