Revenge Against My Ex-husband

Chapter 208 Getting Sick From Rage

Chapter 208 Getting Sick From Rage

Irene was planning to move back to the Cook family. However, she did not expect Edric to call her that

night. He told her that he witnessed Steven being hospitalized and asked if she planned to visit him.

Irene had happened to watch Steven on the TV regarding news of his meeting in the province the day

before. Steven seemed energetic then. He did not look sick. Why would he suddenly be admitted to the

hospital?

She recalled the time when Steven had pretended to be sick and hospitalized. Irene had a hunch that

something must have happened to Steven during his meeting at the province, so he pretended to be

sick again. So, she didn't take it to heart.

Not long after dinner, Maisy called to inform Irene that Steven had been admitted into the hospital

because he had passed out. She requested Irene to head over to the hospital to visit him.

When Irene rushed to the hospital, there were only Steven and Maisy in the ward. Irene felt skeptical

over Deborah and Lily's absence. She thought, "Why isn't Deborah and her daughter here to suck up to

Steven? I wonder why they're unwilling to come by."

Maisy stood up when Irene entered and pointed at Steven, who was lying on the bed, "He hasn't woken

up yet."

Irene whispered, "What happened?"

"I don't know either," she answered. Steven left the morning two days ago to attend a meeting in the

province. He said he would return after three days, which meant he was scheduled to return the next

day. However, while preparing dinner on the evening before Steven's supposed return, she received a

phone call from Steven's driver. He informed her that Steven had been hospitalized and that she

should not tell anyone about it.

Maisy knew that she should not let Deborah and her daughter hear about this matter. Deborah did not

stay at home, knowing that her husband Steven was out for a meeting. Since Lily was the only person

at home, she found an excuse to visit the ward. When she reached, she learned that Steven had been

unconscious all this while. She was anxious and called Irene to get her to come and have a look.

"Where's the driver?" Irene asked Maisy.

"He has been staying here all this while. When I arrived, I told him to go and get his dinner."

"Why did he get sick all of a sudden? What did the doctor say?"

"The doctor said that it was due to hypertension. He should be fine if he stays for further observation."

The driver entered while they chatted. As the driver was newly employed, he was taken aback to see

an unfamiliar face in the ward due to him not seeing Irene before. Maisy hurriedly introduced Irene to

him. Irene asked the driver, "What happened before he fainted?"

The driver shook his head and replied, "I drove Mr. Cook to the meeting in the province. According to

the itinerary, we were supposed to reach home tomorrow. However, after the meeting, we rushed here

instead. On the way home, Mr. Cook suddenly grew pale and said his chest felt uncomfortable. So, I

sent him to the hospital. The doctor did a checkup on Mr. Cook when we were at the hospital and said

that Mr. Cook was suffering from hypertension that required further observation. Initially I wanted to call

his wife, but he stopped me. He only allowed me to contact Maisy and reminded me to tell Maisy to not

share this piece of news with anyone."

Irene glanced at Maisy and asked, "Is his hypertension that serious?".

Maisy nodded and said, "He has been on medicine all this time, but an incident like this have never

happened before."

Irene always had the impression that Mr. Cook was in good health, but she didn't expect that he was

already on medication. She began to feel concerned, so she went to the doctor.

After Irene left for a while, Steven woke up. Maisy was joyful and said, "Mr. Cook, you're awake! Do

you feel any better?"

Steven nodded as he struggled to sit up. The driver quickly helped him up while Maisy asked Steven

caringly, "Mr. Cook, what do you feel like eating? I'll go buy it for you."

Steven glanced at the driver and said, "Get me some congee." The driver acknowledged his request

and left. Once his figure disappeared from the door, Steven looked at Maisy and asked, "She wasn't

home, right?"

He was obviously referring to Deborah. Maisy nodded and replied, "She left early this morning, saying

that she had an appointment with someone to shop for beauty products. She hadn't reached home

when I left."

Steven's face darkened, "What was she wearing when she went out?"

Maisy recalled Deborah's outfit for the day to Steven, "What's wrong, Mr. Cook?"

Steven remained quiet. On his way home, he subconsciously looked beside him and saw a couple

kissing inside a car parked by the roadside. That lady's figure looked similar to Deborah's. At that

moment, he felt his heart drop, and fury began to surge within him.

When he saw that the lady looked like Deborah, molten anger filled him. He instantly felt dizzy and had Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

trouble breathing. If he had not have experienced any adverse symptoms at that moment, he would

have surely gotten the driver to stop the car to observe what was going on.

Although the woman who had kissed the man in the car looked like Deborah, her clothes were different

from what Maisy had described. Did he mistake her for someone else?

While Steven was deep in thought, Maisey spoke again, "Irene came to see you. She saw that you

hadn't woken up, so she went to look for the doctor because she was worried about you."

"She's pregnant. Why did you worry her?" Steven complained.

"I was scared when I saw you were unconscious."

At that moment, Irene came back. She was followed by the doctor. When she saw that Steven was

awake, she let out a sigh of relief. The doctor did a checkup on Steven and noted that his condition was

stable and he had nothing to worry about.

After the doctor left, the driver came back with the congee that Steven had ordered. Irene opened the

takeaway and shook her head, "This is seafood congee. Mr. Cook is allergic to seafood, so you need to

get a new one."

"I'm sorry!" The driver had not worked long enough with Steven to know his diet restrictions, "I'll go buy

a new one."

"It's okay, I'll just go with you," Maisey said, "Irene, you stay here to chat with Mr. Cook. I'll be back

soon."

After Maisy and the driver left, only Irene and Steven were left in the room. At that moment, Steven's

eyes were slightly damp. He had never thought that Irene would remember that he was allergic to

seafood.

Although Lily and Irene were his daughters, both of their characters were at extreme ends of the

spectrum. Lily was with him for many years and knew he was allergic to seafood, but she had never

bothered about it.

Lily would often insist Maisy to stock some seafood at home since Edric liked it. She would indulge

herself in pleasing Edric and completely ignored his feelings.

Although he had felt rather unhappy about it, he talked himself out of it. Young people nowadays tend

to care about themselves only. However, when he saw that Irene remembered his allergy, he finally

realized that he had made a big mistake, "Irene, I was in the wrong! I owe you an apology!"

In the past, Steven had apologized to Irene many times. However, this time, his apology felt different

compared to the previous versions.

Irene noticed his change of mood and poured Steven a glass of water, "You don't have to apologize to

me. I was narrow-minded when I was younger. I've thought it through. You gave me a life. To me, that

is the greatest gift I could ever receive. I do not have any right to ask anything from you, nor can I hate

you."

The more Irene said, the more upset Steven felt. He replied, "Irene, I feel the most sorry towards you

and your mother. I can still repair our relationship, whereas for your mother, I know that I can never

make it up to her in this lifetime. I hope that I can beg for her forgiveness in my next life."

Irene gazed at Steven and thought of what Marie had said previously. She suppressed her emotions

and asked, "Can I ask something? Did my mother ever wrong you while she was alive?"

"No! Your mother is a good woman. She had worked hard after marrying me, and she had never done

anything to hurt me. I'm the one who had failed her," Steven replied unwaveringly.

Irene felt relieved. So, her mother was not that kind of person after all. She had been too gullible to

believe Marie's hurtful words. She should not have done that.

Maisy and the driver returned with another pack of congee for Steven not long after. After Steven

finished the congee, he noticed that it was getting late and was worried about Irene's health. Hence, he

asked Irene to go home and rest. After making sure Steven's condition was stable, Irene did not insist

on staying either. She gave Steven's driver a few reminders before leaving the ward. When she was

about to leave, Steven suddenly called out to her, "Irene, it's my birthday the day after tomorrow. Could

you bring Eden home for dinner?"

Irene nodded, "I'll bring Eden back."

Steven had not been hoping for much at first. When he saw Irene agreeing to his idea, he grew excited

and tried to convince Irene to move back home, "Maisy has already decorated Eden's room. You can

come over to stay for a few days."

Irene did not object to him, "I'll see how it goes."

After Irene went back, she told Dave and Kinsey about her moving back to Steven's place. Kinsey

wasn't assured, so she told Edric that matter. She hoped that he would advise Irene not to go. When

Edric heard her words, he got anxious too. Deborah was such a ruthless woman, so she might do

something mean to Irene. He could not allow Irene to be at such a risk.

Edric came to speak to Irene that night, "Irene, it'd be better for you to consider this matter. Deborah is

just too vicious. Even if you're not concerned about your safety, do think about the baby too. We

mustn't take risks."

"I know. I'll be careful."

"No matter how careful you are, you can't avoid any sudden accidents. As the saying goes, it's better

late than never. We've waited so many years, what's a few more months of letting Deborah off until the

baby's born? We can take our revenge when Eden recovers, right?"

Edric persuaded, "Besides, so many years have passed since the incident. You must be wary of

Deborah's cunning behavior. It's not easy for you to find any evidence that puts her in the wrong. We've

already gotten some leads in the investigation, so the results will be out soon. Just wait patiently for a

few more days!"

Irene had no choice but to relent as Edric seemed so worried about her, "Alright, I won't move back to

the Cook family. I'll wait till your investigation is over. However, it's Steven's birthday in a few days. I've

already promised to bring Eden over for dinner."

"Since you've promised him, you should go back. Remember to be careful while you're there," Edric

warned.

This was Irene's first time celebrating Steven's birthday since she had left home. Steven was excited.

Although it was his birthday, he instructed Maisy to prepare all of Irene's favorite dishes. He went to

pick Irene and Eden up for the occasion.
