Chapter 245 Breakfast
It was a residential area near the apartment. Anaya looked up and happened to see a lighted window.
Several figures were reflected on the curtain, overlapping and snuggling, and it seemed that there were bursts of laughter.
The atmosphere was joyous.
1
There were myriad twinkling lights of the city, but none of them were lit for her.
Sadness welled up in Anaya’s heart and expanded, like a crack that stretched thousands of miles
across the barren and dry land, terribly deserted.
Anaya stood there in a daze. When she was lost in thought, someone suddenly approached her from behind, with a clear and familiar aura swept over her in an instant.
“What are you looking at?”
A deep and familiar voice sounded in her ear.
Her hand was held up.
The wide palm wrapped hers tightly.
Her hand, which was a little cold by the night breeze, instantly warmed up.
Anaya turned her head sideways and saw Hearst looking down at her.
The street lamps intersected, and Anaya’s reflection was in Hearst’s eyes.
“Nothing.” Anaya was stunned for a few seconds before she recovered from her thoughts.
Hearst didn’t ask more questions but just held Anaya’s hand and took it into the pocket of his coat.
“Go home now?” he asked.
“Okay,” Anaya responded lightly and then asked, “Why are you here?”
“Sammo ran out, and I came to chase it.”
It was not until then that Anaya noticed Sammo by Hearst’s feet.
The dog had a rare silence. it looked in a low spirit as if it had just been taught a lesson by its master.
“How did it get downstairs?”
Hearst’s cool expression changed a bit at the mention of this.
It was obvious that he had been angered by this dog.
“The little girl from the neighborhood went downstairs to buy a sandwich, and it followed her outside. When the little girl had just gotten her sandwich, Sammo snatched and ate it in one gulp.”
“Was the little girl crying hard?”
“Yes, her face was covered in tears and snot. The surrounding stall keepers were all scared away by
her.”
Anaya couldn’t help laughing.
It seemed that Hearst had a hard time coaxing the little girl.
No wonder he was angry.
“I’ll make breakfast for you tomorrow morning,” Anaya said on a whim. Perhaps, it was because.
she heard the interesting news related to food.
Hearst asked, “And lunch, too?”
“You’re pushing my luck.”
“Okay?”
“Uh… Okay.”
The next morning, Hearst walked downstairs with a lunchbox in his hand.
After sending Anaya off, he got into his car.
Hearst didn’t sit in the back seat today but in the passenger seat.
As soon as he got in the car, he placed the lunchbox on the mini desk between the front seats.
It was a very conspicuous position.
Jayden could not help but take a few more glances.
Jayden got a feeling that Hearst was showing off.
However, it was between the front seats and seemed to be the only place to put things. That seemed reasonable enough.
“Mr. Helms, is this lunch Ms. Dutt made for you?”
“Yeah.”
Hearst lightly responded and then added, “She got up at six this morning and started preparing it.”
Jayden carefully guessed at Hearst’s intention.
Why did Mr. Helms emphasize that it started at six?
Jayden hesitated for a moment before saying, “It seems that Ms. Dutt was very attentive to making lunch for you.”
“Yeah.”
It was the same reply with one word. However, Jayden could clearly feel that Hearst was in a very good mood.
Jayden thought, is Mr. Helms so easy to coax?
They arrived at the office and went up to the top floor.
A girl with her hair in a bun chewed gum and sat on a chair playing a game.
Seeing Hearst, she immediately put away her phone, stood up, and called out with a smile,
“Hearst.” NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
Hearst stood in front of her and asked, “Why are you back?”
“Samuel asked me to come back and searched for some information. I came to see you by the way.”
Nikki noticed the lunchbox in his hand and asked, “Hearst, is this your breakfast? I’m starving.
Please share it with me…”
Nikki said while reaching for the lunchbox.
Hearst took a step back and avoided her hands.
Nikki was unhappy. “Hearst, when we lived hard lives in Las Vegas, why were you not so stingy?”
Hearst didn’t answer her question but said calmly, “I’ll get Jayden to prepare breakfast for you.”
“Can’t I have the one in your hands?”
“No, you can’t.”
Nikki was about to say something else, but Jayden spoke at the right time, “Ms. Waller, I’ll take you downstairs.”
Nikki was a little bit displeased, but she did not dare to make a fuss in front of Hearst. So she went downstairs with Jayden.
Nikki complained while having breakfast, “Mr. Cassidy, is it a treasure in Hearst’s lunch box? He didn’t even let me touch it. Why is that?”
Jayden said calmly, “That’s the lunch Ms. Dutt prepared for Mr. Helms.”
“Anaya?” Nikki was stunned. Then she laughed and said, “Well, that’s indeed more valuable than any treasure. No wonder Hearst protected it so well.”
After a while, she suddenly stopped laughing.
Nikki was envious of Anaya and Hearst. All of a sudden, she lost her appetite.
Even Samuel had a girlfriend, and she was still alone. Nikki was turning 24, yet she had not even. been with a man, hand in hand.
“Mr. Cassidy, maybe you and I can make do. I’ll make breakfast for you, too.”
Jayden kept a straight face. “Thank you, but I don’t think I deserve you.”
Nikki was speechless.
When Anaya arrived at the office, she noticed that there was a large bouquet of fresh roses on the table.
Anaya thought that this was a return gift from Hearst for the breakfast she made, so she walked over and picked it up for a sniff.
The light fragrance of the flowers made her happy.
When Nikki was about to find a vase to put the flowers in, she noticed a card inserted among the roses.
4
The smile on Anaya’s face instantly disappeared after she pulled out the card and saw the contents.
“I love you from the depths of my soul. I am willing to give my life to you. You can accept as much as you want. It was like this back then, and it remains the same now.”
Even though the sentences were commonly used by the flower shop and had been adopted by a lot of people, it would not cause Anaya to get angry for the insincere confession.
What disgusted her was the font on the card.
This was Joshua’s handwriting.
At the lower part of the card, there was a line of smaller-sized words written, “I will come over to pick you up for dinner in the late afternoon.”
Anaya threw the card into the trash can and went out of the office. She was going to find a larger
trash can to throw the roses away.
Just then, a female employee passed by and saw the flowers Anaya was carrying. She praised, “Ms. Dutt, what a beautiful bouquet! Is it Mr. Helms who sends it to you?”
“No, it’s not him.” Anaya hesitated for a moment and then asked, “Do you like flowers? You can take it to decorate your office desk.”
“Can I really take it?” the female employee was overjoyed.
Anaya nodded. The female employee took the bouquet of roses and sniffed it. “Thank you, Ms. Dutt.”
Seeing that the female employee was happy, Anaya was relaxed. “Don’t mention it.”
This bouquet of roses could make the employee happy, so it was a bit worth it.
At five o’clock in the afternoon, Joshua drove to the Riven Group, waiting for Anaya downstairs.
Joshua leaned against the side of the car and waited.
After about ten minutes, he noticed a young woman holding a bouquet of roses coming out.
It was the bouquet of roses that he sent to Anaya this morning.
But the person holding the flowers was not Anaya.
