“What else do you want by coming here?” Andreas asked with a cold tone. He stared sharply at Deasy, who now stood before him with her head bowed.
Following her mother’s request, Deasy had finally mustered the courage to meet Andreas at his office. Luckily, the middle-aged man was in his office. Even more fortunate, although his secretary had informed him of the visitor’s identity, Andreas had no intention of chasing her away. He still welcomed her in, eager to hear why the late friend’s daughter had bothered to come to his office.
“I-I have something to tell you, Sir.”
Andreas nodded. He raised his hand and gestured for Deasy to sit on the sofa in front of him.
“Just go ahead and tell me your purpose and intention for coming here. I don’t have much time to listen to lengthy explanations.”
Deasy took a deep breath. She swallowed hard and tried to find the right words to convey to the man she had insulted and targeted for revenge just a few days ago.
“Firstly, I want to apologize, Sir.”
“Apologize?” Andreas interjected immediately. “Apologize for embezzling the company’s funds? Or apologize for nearly driving Quantum Tech to bankruptcy?”
“I apologize for all the wrongdoings I’ve committed without exception. I’m sorry for the unethical actions that caused you, Mr. Andreas, and others to incur losses. Deep down in my heart, I apologize.”
Andreas remained silent, studying Deasy’s face. He tried to fathom the sincerity behind her words, to confirm whether her apology was genuine or mere talk.
Meanwhile, Deasy continued to explain her purpose earnestly, sincerely apologizing for her actions.
“I… I also want to express my gratitude,” Deasy confidently added, causing Andreas to raise an eyebrow in surprise.
“Gratitude?”
Deasy nodded.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“Yes. Thank you for everything you’ve done for my family all this time. Thank you for not involving the authorities in this case. I apologize for my ignorance, Sir. Once again, I truly apologize for acting foolishly and going beyond the limits.”
Andreas initially stayed silent but eventually smiled dismissively at Deasy’s words.
“Let’s forget about it. There’s no need to discuss or prolong this matter. To be honest, I don’t even want to meet you, let alone discuss something like this. So, when you’re done, I think you can leave.”
Deasy nodded without protest or objection as Andreas openly dismissed her. She realized that perhaps the middle-aged man in front of her was still angry about what she had done.
“Very well, Sir. I will leave now. Thank you once again for your time.”
Deasy quickly rose and left. Before returning to her apartment, she decided to stop by a mall to have lunch.
At first, everything seemed fine. Until she entered a baby supply store, where she coincidentally ran into Devina again.
This time, Devina appeared to be alone, without any companions.
Initially, Deasy wanted to act indifferent. She deliberately kept her distance and pretended not to see Devina.
However, Devina, on the contrary, greeted her and then approached.
“Are you Deasy, who used to work at Lucas’s company?” Devina asked directly.
“Yes,” Deasy replied. “I used to work there. But I don’t work there anymore.”
Devina nodded.
“We crossed paths at the obstetrician’s office the other day, right?” she asked again.
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Are you pregnant?” Devina inquired, becoming even more curious, which made Deasy increasingly uncomfortable.
“Yes,” Deasy replied briefly. “I am.”
“Same here. I’m pregnant too.”
Finally, Deasy’s curiosity was satisfied. She now knew that Devina was indeed pregnant. That’s why she had been at the same doctor’s office as Deasy.
“Oh, you’re pregnant too?”
“Yes,” Devina nodded again. “I’m pregnant with Lucas’s child. I’m about eight weeks along. If everything goes well, I’ll be marrying Lucas next weekend. Don’t forget to come. I’ll ask Lucas to invite you,” Devina stated without any hesitation.
Deasy, on the other hand, froze. She was torn between believing and doubting what she had just heard.
After parting ways with Devina, Deasy’s appetite disappeared instantly. She decided to leave, not to return home but to visit Lucas at his office.
Even though he didn’t want to meet her, Deasy wanted to make sure. Was what she had just heard from Devina true or just a deliberate provocation on Devina’s part?
