Chapter 9
Chapter 9 Trevor turned to leave while Susanna was internally panicking about the thought she just had. “Pfft! Ugh!” she muttered under her breath when she saw the man’s straight figure turning away. Why is he talking about fate? If anything, they’re fated not to be together! After all the suffering he made Emma go through, fate will never bring them together again! Meanwhile in Wesley’s office, Emma and Wesley were having a small talk before he brought the topic to her. “President Bateson was here earlier. Did you guys meet?” He knew about Trevor and Emma’s past, which was why he asked the question. “Yeah,” she replied with a calm nod. He thought about it for a moment before he continued speaking, “He came to sign an agreement with me earlier. The company is planning to work on a historical drama and he’s the sponsor for it.” She smiled as she asked him the first question that popped into her mind. “You are thinking of getting me to be the scriptwriter, aren’t you?” If that isn’t the case, you wouldn’t have told me what he was here for.” Wesley smiled in return. “Well, I don’t see a reason to talk in circles since you’ve already guessed where this is going. I can get another scriptwriter to do the job if you don’t feel comfortable interacting with him. However, I personally think that you’re perfect for this project. This series will involve mainly female actresses and I think you’re a mature and calm individual who is also specialized in writing scripts that tug on the audience’s heartstrings. I bet this series will be a huge hit if you do a good job.” After hearing his project proposal, she let out a polite smile. “Thank you for the praise, President Zurich. I would’ve taken the job even if you didn’t say all these kind words. Work is work; I won’t allow my personal feelings to affect my job.” After all, Trevor was only a stranger to her. She was not about to give up on a job opportunity for the sake of a stranger. That year, she had managed to work on a few series, but most of them had only gained a limited amount of recognition in the field. She would only be satisfied if she could come up with a grand hit of a series. “That’s great,” Wesley uttered while gazing at the woman admiringly. When they met a year ago, Emma’s gaze had been filled with the hurt and sorrow from an unfulfilling marriage. However, she was now filled with confidence and joy which she never possessed in the past.
Judging by the confidence she radiated and how well she had dealt with her divorce, Wesley was certain that she would be able to handle her work, including any necessary interactions with Trevor. As such, he handed a copy of the project proposal to her after she had agreed to the job. She flipped through the proposal for a while before asking him, “Is Crystal the female lead of this series?” Truth be told, Emma was not asking this because it bothered her, but she simply wanted to know who the female lead was in order to have a better rough vision when she was writing the script. Furthermore, ever since Trevor started the production department in Bateson Group, Crystal had been the female lead for all of the shows. Naturally, she assumed that Crystal would be the lead for this series as well. “Crystal has stopped taking jobs for a while,” Wesley replied before pausing for a moment. “I heard that she’s about to prepare for her marriage into the Bateson Family,” he added. “That’s true.” Emma curled her lips into a bitter smile. I’ve divorced him for a year now, so he has every right to marry Crystal. I guess this is good. At least without Trevor on set, I’d be able to avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble and awkward moments.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
