Part 2 Chapter 31
Talen Bancroft’s POV
The pack that we were using as our centre of operations was in complete disarray. There were so many people missing in action, their own alpha among them. The pack’s luna was doing her best to run things in his absence but it was clear that she wasn’t used to being involved in the day to day running of the pack.
That wasn’t her fault, or even her mates fault. It was all down to the council and their outdated rules. I wasn’t going to let this happen to Molly. I wasn’t going to let her take a back seat when it came to leadership. I would make sure that she was never in the same situation as luna Davies. I don’t think Molly would ever allow that to happen anyway, she was much too strong willed to fade into the background.
Reports of missing or killed pack members filtered in throughout the morning and early afternoon. It didn’t take long for us to identify a trend among the killed and missing pack members, the vast majority of them were ranked. There were only a few betas and alphas who made it back and the only hybrid who made it back alive was Molly.
The rest of the hybrids were viciously killed and their heads were taken as some kind of twisted trophy. I was glad that Molly had gone to check on her step father when that little piece of information came out. I would have only upset her and that wasn’t what we needed right now.
“Does this mean that Molly is the new head of the Farwell house?” Grayson asked in a hushed tone.
Molly was currently fast asleep in his lap, as we waited outside her stepfather’s room for the doctor to finish his checkup. She had been awake for far too long and she needed to catch up on some of her rest. I leaned over and kissed the top of her head. She looked so beautiful, I still couldn’t believe that she was mine. I was a very lucky lycan.
“Yes, I guess it does. The only other heir is Finn and he is a traitor.” I replied. Criminals were not allowed to hold any position in lycan society. Even if Finn eventually got pardoned for his crimes, he would not be allowed to hold any position higher than that of warrior.
“What does that mean?” Grayson asked.
“I don’t know, I have never heard of a mating between the heads of two houses before.” I whispered, stroking Molly’s hair softly.
My father would probably know the answer to this instantly but I didn’t. I never really had much interest in history, there were far too many dates and names for my liking. Maybe if I had paid more attention to my father’s lessons I would know how to deal with this. I wish my dad was still here. My eyes started to fill with tears. Grayson looked at me, I could tell from the look in his eyes that he wanted to comfort me. That was the last thing I needed right now.
I also didn’t want a pack full of werewolves seeing me breaking down. My father would be so disappointed in me if I showed weakness in front of so many strangers. I wouldn’t normally let that have an impact on my behaviour but losing him so abruptly was having a strange effect on me.
I leaned in and kissed Molly’s forehead before letting Grayson know that I needed some air. He watched me get up and walk out of the room but luckily he made no moves to follow me. I walked out of the hospital building and into the fresh morning air. There were too many people in this small pack for me to truly be alone but I walked around the area for a few minutes to get my head straight.
After a few minutes alone I felt better and I knew exactly what I needed to do. I opened up a mindlink with Jimmy. Jimmy was going to be my second in command now that my father wasn’t here anymore. It was a job that he had been training for over the last fifteen years. If anyone knew what would happen to both our houses now, it would be him.
‘Jimmy, I need to speak to you about Molly.’ I told him.
‘Oh my god, how have you messed it up now?’ He replied almost instantly. Ugh, why did he always assume that I had done something wrong? I didn’t have the most experience when it came to relationships but I would never do anything to hurt my mate. At least not on purpose, she was pretty annoyed with me over hiding this attack from her.
She had promised me that she was going to punish me once she got me alone. I didn’t know what she had planned for me but I was excited to find out. Was it really a punishment if I was looking forward to it?
‘I haven’t messed up, I am the perfect mate.’ I replied.
‘Yeah right. What do you want to talk about?’ Jimmy asked. I explained to him what happened with my father and the other hybrids. He listened to me in silence while I explained everything to him.Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
‘Damn, I guess I should probably start calling you your highness.’ Jimmy said once I had finished.
‘What the heck?’ I replied. There hadn’t been a lycan king for hundreds of years, why would he think that there would be one now? More importantly, why the heck would I become the next lycan king?
‘There is a rule among lycans that if a lycan is in charge of more than half of the country’s population then they will be crowned as the monarch. You and Molly have the two largest houses in the country. Between you and Molly, you are now responsible for around three quarters of the lycans.’ Jimmy informed me.
Mumbling something in response I cut my mindlink with Jimmy and continued to walk around the pack. I had never thought that I would end up being lycan royalty and I was struggling to process it. I was going to have to break the news to Molly and Grayson somehow but I didn’t know how to even start. It was really messed up that as part of a plan to rid the world of hybrids our enemies ended up making one of them queen.
I wasn’t really paying attention to where I was walking, I was so deep in thought. After some time I found myself in the forest and I could hear the sound of raised voices not far from where I was. I was about to turn around and walk away when I heard Grayson’s father’s name being mentioned.
It stopped me in my tracks, they were reading off a list of all the people who were currently missing. Maybe I should join this conversation, Grayson would really like to know what was happening with his dad. I turned and started to walk slowly towards where the voices were coming from.
“Did this Dustin Stanton guy say what he was planning to do with them?” Luna Davies asked. Dustin was the head of the remaining lycan house. I have met him a few times but I didn’t know him very well. What I didn’t understand was what he had to do with the missing werewolves.
“His note said that if we didn’t hand over Talen and Molly then he would start sending us parts of our loved ones as an incentive.” One of the other werewolves replied, causing me to stop in my tracks. That was not what I was expecting, I was shocked and Jax was snarling in my head.
“Do they want them dead or alive?” Someone else asked.
‘They are actually thinking of giving us up. We should go in there and kill every last one of them.’ Jax growls. If they even thought about hurting Molly, I might have to take him up on that offer.
“He wants them alive. The note says that he needs them to hand over their positions to him before he kills them.” One of the other werewolves replied.
“We can’t do that. We can’t hand them over, knowing that they are going to get murdered.” Luna Davies replied.
“What do you suggest? Do I have to remind you that Dustin has you mate?” The same werewolf who spoke before asked. This wasn’t good. Most of the people here seemed to be against the idea of handing us over to Dustin but there were some who were for it. We had to get out of here, I wasn’t going to risk Molly’s life by staying here even a moment longer.
I opened a mindlink with Grayson and told him to get everyone from his pack out of this pack’s territory urgently. As they rushed to get everyone into cars, I stayed to check on how the conversation here progressed. They continued to argue about what they wanted to do with us, most of them weren’t willing to give us up. There were a few of them who wanted to sacrifice us though, so I made a note of who they were.
My lycan wanted to kill them for being a risk to my mate. I wasn’t quite as unforgiving as he was, but I would never forget what they wanted to do to my mate. I would make sure that they paid for their betrayal and I would make sure that everyone knew exactly what they were like.
