Chapter 925 The Excited Mr. Chase
Chapter 925 The Excited Mr. Chase
Sydney looked at Mrs. Chase. "I know what you mean, but Luke is your son, and my rejection hurts him. Do you really not blame me?"
"You've asked me this question, and I'll answer it again. No, of course not." Mrs. Chase grabbed her hand, "As I said, Luke has the right to like you, but it doesn't mean you have to agree. Affections should be mutual. If two people are in love, they can be together. If the girl is reluctant, she should turn him down, and he can move on. You didn't do anything wrong, so why should I blame you? I'm old but open-minded. Even though..."
"You can come out with it." Sydney looked at her.
Mrs. Chase sighed regretfully, "Even though I want you to become my daughter-in-law badly, things won't work out that way, because I know that Luke is not your type. You won't fall in love with him. We can't make a happy couple out of you guys. Compared with that, I'd rather see you find the right guy who can make you happy."
"As for Luke," Mrs. Chase regained her smile, "he is going through a difficult time, but I believe it's just temporary. He will move on once he meets the right person for him. You don't have to worry about him. It's not a bad thing that he is not here. You'd be embarrassed to see him, and he'd be upset to see you with Julien. It's better for you guys not to meet. Don't you think so?"
"Auntie," Sydney hugged Mrs. Chase, "thank you for saying this to me."
Mrs. Chase was stunned for a moment before patting her back with a smile. "It's okay. Let's go back."
Sydney curled her lips and hummed in consent.
Hand in hand, they went out of the kitchen.
Sydney left halfway to the bathroom.
Mrs. Chase returned to the living room alone.
As Sydney was not seen coming back, Julien stopped the business talk with Mr. Chase and asked Mrs. Chase, "Where is Leaf?"
Mrs. Chase was satisfied with the concern in his voice, but on the surface, she snorted, "She went to the bathroom. What? Are you afraid I'd abduct her?"
"It's not what I mean." Relieved to hear that, Julien explained, "I'm just anxious not to see her."
"Hmph, what is there to be anxious about? Our home is safe enough." Mrs. Chase rolled her eyes.
Julien silently pursed his lips.
Just then, Mr. Chase stepped in to smooth things over. He glanced at his wife and said, "Come on, what's the fuss? Julien is just worried about Sydney. Attached, they can't be separated even for a second."
"So, you're on his side." Mrs. Chase pointed to Julien.
They had agreed on testing Julien with all kinds of problems.
What happened then?
Her husband had been nice to Julien from the beginning. He had long forgotten about their agreement.
Mr. Chase didn't know what his wife was thinking about. He just smiled awkwardly, "I can't help it because Julien gave me several bottles of vintage wine."
Mrs. Chase rolled her eyes. "Ha!"
As the couple bickered, Julien's eyes flickered. He then found the bags that contained the wine bottles and placed them on the coffee table. "Uncle, why don't you check out the wine and see if you like them before dinner starts?"
"Sure." Mr. Chase hurriedly nodded. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
In fact, the heavy drinker had been longing to do that.
He had held back from unpacking the gift in front of Julien.
Deep down, he was anxious to check it out.
Julien actually did him a favor by proposing it.
He had no reason to disagree.
With a smile, Mr. Chase got the bags close to him and quickly started unpacking them.
When the first bottle of wine was revealed, Mr. Chase froze and thought he had seen it wrong.
He hurriedly rubbed his eyes and took a closer look. An excited cry escaped his mouth as soon as he confirmed it.
Startled, Mrs. Chase almost choked on her coffee.
She put down the cup and glared at her husband. "What is your problem?"
Mr. Chase ignored her. His trembling hand reached out for the second bag.
Seeing the gift catch all his attention, Mrs. Chase turned her head away in annoyance.
Fondling the cup, Julien watched and imperceptibly curled up his lips.
Soon after, Mr. Chase cried out again.
Mrs. Chase shivered and stood up with a start. She sulked, "Hey, you freaked me out."
Paying no attention to her, Mr. Chase stared wide-eyed at the four bottles of wine and trembled with excitement. "These... These are originals from those world-famous wineries."
He looked at Julien for confirmation.
Julien nodded to express that he was not wrong.
Mr. Chase was even more excited. "Geeze, never have I thought of having the chance to see the original wine, and they are from different wineries. What a day!"
Mr. Chase was on cloud nine. Mrs. Chase saw it but snorted, "What's the fuss? These are just several bottles of wine."
"What do you know?" Mr. Chase looked askance at his wife, "These are all original wines, the first batch after those distilleries were built. Every bottle of them costs as much as millions. There are only 100 bottles of them in the world. They cannot be bought with money. I've been wishing to get one bottle of them, but my status is not high enough. I didn't expect it to appear in front of my eyes, much less to see so many bottles. This... is like a dream coming true."
Mr. Chase held the bottles fondly.
Mrs. Chase's disdain turned into shock and then disbelief. The change in her expression amused Julien.
"Millions of dollars?" She swallowed and looked at the wine in Mr. Chase's arms, "No way, I can't believe they're so expensive."
She knew that some wines were worth a lot of money, but the most expensive ones she knew cost just a few hundred thousand dollars.
To her surprise, such pricey wines existed.
This was crazy.
She suddenly felt that their family was poor.
At least, they would not spend millions to buy a bottle of wine.
