Chase stopped abruptly, his eyes fierce as he looked at Jessie. His intense stare made Jessie shiver.

She regretted taunting him.

Chase didn’t hurry to leave. He stood before Jessie, bent down, and gripped her chin.

Jessie didn’t push back. She couldn’t. She just met Chase’s gaze defiantly.

Chase lifted her chin slightly, his slender fingers lightly grazing her lips.

His voice was deep and a little rough. “Jessie, have I been too soft on you lately? Have you forgotten your place?”

“What now, Mr. Thompson? Are you

it looked like a mix of tears and going to punish me?” Jessie tried to smile but

Chase’s eyes grew colder. He held her face and forced her to look at him. “What did you call me?”

“Mr. Thompson! What else am I supposed to call you? Honey? Hubby?” Jessie fired back.

Chase stared at Jessie intensely, then released her.

He straightened up and adjusted his clothes, his tone becoming flat and icy. “Stop with your games. Trying to anger me won’t make me stay. I don’t even want to touch you now!”

Jessie slumped on the sofa, her grin more visible. “Mr. Thompson, you’re always so full of yourself. You sicken me too now!”

“Hmph!” Chase glanced at Jessie, then turned away. “Oh, and this house is mine. After the divorce, move out.”

“No need for reminders, I’ll leave on my own,” Jessie replied.

Chase left without another word.

She still hadn’t told Chase about her cancer.

She feared he’d mock her instead of showing concern. He’ll probably say something like, “Your cancer is your problem, not mine. Do you expect me to foot the bill for your treatment?”

Jessie didn’t want to hear that, nor did she want to appear weak to Chase for pity.

After Chase’s car vanished, Jessie locked up the villa, shutting out the world.

She looked around the villa she’d lived in for a year. Chase bought it for them to live in after getting married, but he barely stayed. Tomorrow, she’d leave tou..

A trace of sadness filled her eyes as she began tidying up. She left Chase’s things. untouched and only sorted her belongings. After submitting the divorce papers tomorrow, she’d call movers to pack up.

Her new place was set. Her friend, Olivia Colton, was back from abroad and could stay with her for a few days.

With few belongings, Jessie packed quickly. Only the photo of her and Chase above the bed remained.

In the photo, she smiled as a typical bride, while Chase smiled at the camera, not his usual stern self.

It was odd seeing the ‘Mafia Tyrant‘ Chase smile like that.

Jessie couldn’t tell which Chase was real: the one in the photo or the one in life:

But soon, it wouldn’t matter. Jessie took a pair of scissors and carefully cut herself out of the photo, leaving Chase embracing a human–shaped hole, smiling broadly.
