Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 254

"Ah, good kid," he said, giving Selena's head a gentle pat.

Rebecca was about to step in through the doorway when she overheard the conversation. Her hand froze on the doorknob, gripping it tighter, her eyes filled with resentment.

...

Over at Bennett Corporation, in the CEO's office, Derick was going over the day's schedule with Everett, iPad in hand, when Jaime barged in.

His oversized sunglasses covered most of his face, making him look like he was trying to hide from the world.

Derick blinked in surprise before greeting him, "Mr. Jaime."

Jaime nodded, waving his hand casually, "Carry on, don't mind me. I'm just here to snag a nap on the couch."

Without further ado, he sprawled out on the couch, his legs too long and dangling off the edge.

Derick raised an eyebrow. "?"

Everett tossed his papers aside and reclined in his leather chair, not showing an ounce of hospitality. "What is this, your hotel suite? Derick, please call security!" Just as Derick was about to act, Jaime shot up, feigning urgency.

"Aren't we friends? Can't I just crash here for a bit?"

He dramatically removed his sunglasses, "If I don't catch some Z's, I'm a goner. Everett, could you live with that on your conscience?"

Everett lazily lifted an eyelid, giving him a skeptical once-over.

Jaime's usually dashing face was marred by massive dark circles, aging him a good decade.

Derick, never one to mince words, suggested, "Mr. Jaime, maybe a little... moderation?"

Jaime looked downright pitiful.

"You've got it all wrong," he

lamented. "My sister's off for some quality time with her husband and left me with their twins. They're at that age where even dogs would steer clear, and they're wearing me out Honestly, it's tougher than juggling three girlfriends!

Everett had met those little mischief-makers a few times and could vouch for their knack for chaos.

Jaime flopped back down, playing dead. "No matter where I hide, they find me. This is the only sanctuary So, Everett, if you want to keep me around let me stay. Otherwise, you'll be visiting my grave this time next year."

Seeing him like this, Everett couldn't help but chuckle with a hint of schadenfreude. "Finally, someone's managed to knock you off balance." Jaime shot him a peeved glare. "Your day will come!"

Everett waved a hand to Derick, signaling him to leave. Derick nodded and quietly exited, closing the door behind him.

"It won't," Everett replied nonchalantly. "Selena and I aren't planning on having kids."

Jaime's eyes flew open.

He propped himself up, eyeing Everett with disbelief. "Selena agreed to that?"

For the past three years, Selena had been dead set on having kids, nearly divorcing over it. Had she really given in?

Everett thought back to their conversation from the night before.

He nodded, "We've come to an understanding."

Jaime was floored.

someone who disliked kids. Laste year, when he brought his two little rascals over, she'd been nothing but gracious, playing along with their antics.

Could it have been out of politeness rather than genuine affection?

Jaime didn't know her well enough to dig deeper.

After a pause, he asked, "So, the next heir to Bennett Corporation is definitely Margot's kid?"
