Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 17

Selena was caught off guard at first, then started struggling fiercely. Everett's grip on her waist was so tight it felt like he might crush her bones. It was a clear warning that he'd make her life hell if she dared to utter even a single word out of line.

But Selena had reached her goal; she stopped fighting and softened, becoming docile. Ten minutes later, amid the amused and knowing glances of the crowd, Everett left the venue with Selena, who was dazed and unsteady on her feet. Derick stayed behind to handle the aftermath. Everett took Selena to the penthouse suite on the top floor, slamming the door behind them. He flung her onto the sofa with a forceful shove, ripped off his tie, and glared at her with fiery eyes. "Selena, do you even know what kind of event we were at today? Is this how you act? Don't forget your place! You should know what is appropriate to say and what isn't!"

Selena glanced at her wrist, now red from his grip, and met his gaze with a calm smile. "Of course, I know how important tonight's dinner was. That's exactly why I wanted to announce our impending divorce to make sure everyone got the message. So certain people can stop pretending they didn't hear it."

Everett laughed in anger. Was she trying to provoke him? Selena ignored his sarcasm and pressed on, "Everett, I've told you countless times that I want a divorce, but you think I'm just being dramatic. Since you chose to ignore me, I had no choice but to make my intentions public."

"You might stop me once, but can you do it repeatedly? You don't want our divorce to become a public spectacle, do you?"

Of course, she was just saying so. Despite her urge to tear him apart, a complete fallout with Everett would do her no good. First, she wouldn't be able to get the divorce smoothly, and second, offending Everett would make life hard for her and her uncle in Newport. After all, tantrums and stubbornness are reserved for those you love, and he no longer fit that role.

As she spoke, a frosty look spread over Everett's handsome face. His lips parted, and each word seemed to be forced out between clenched teeth, "Selena, who gave you the nerve to threaten me?"

Selena blinked innocently. "Mr. Bennett, how was that a threat? I'm just discussing the divorce with you in a friendly-like manner."

Everett was tired of hearing her harp on about divorce, his anger flaring up. He stopped wasting words, took a few long strides, hoisted her over his shoulder, and headed to the bedroom, tossing her onto the bed.

He pinned her hands down and kissed her with a force that was different this time, full of fury, dominance, and a hint of punishment. His hand slid under her clothes, seeking her sensitive spots.

Selena hadn't expected him to be in

the mood at such a time, and it infuriated her. He had never respected her, which is why he kept ignoring her words. The thought of his lips on Margot, their bodies entangled, made her stomach churn.

Feeling nauseated, Selena shoved him away and began to retch. Everett's expression turned dark with disbelief as he stared at her, his gaze shaken.

For three years, whenever Selena threw a fit, they'd end up making up in bed. Their sex life had always been in sync, with her often taking the initiative. This was the first time he truly felt her disdain and disgust.

As Selena caught her breath, she noticed Everett's expression. It was as if he'd just stepped in something foul.

She felt a twisted satisfaction. "I don't have any feelings left for you. Your kiss makes me sick. Do you believe now that I really want a divorce?"

Her words pushed the already tense

atmosphere to the brink. Everett's gaze turned icy as he looked at her anger bubbling over. Just when Selena thought she'd provoked him enough to agree to the divorce, his

eyes sharpened, scrutinizing her.

He grabbed her chin roughly, pulling her close, his voice cold, "Selena, when we got married, you knew I didn't have feelings for you, yet you spent three years chasing after me relentlessly." "Tell me, what's the real reason you want this divorce so badly? Convince me, and I might consider it."

Now, it was Selena's turn to frown in

confusion. In her mind, Everett's reluctance to divorce was mostly about his grandfather and the company. He would show slight annoyance that she was the one who brought it up, just to irritate her. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

But his tone now seemed to suggest she was the unreasonable one. Selena thought hard, sensing something was off, and finally said, "That day..."
