Shadow perused the articles, one by one, meticulously examining them alongside the pictures uploaded by netizens. She attempted to maintain an optimistic perspective, knowing that if she had a Weibo account, she would undoubtedly face an onslaught of scathing remarks from these angry netizens.
Over and over again, she scrutinized the articles, her flushed face and dark eyes peering through the heavy foundation that adorned her skin. The insults she encountered were enough to stoke anyone’s anger. After everything she had endured and all she had accomplished, she refused to remain idle any longer.
Summoning her resolve, she retrieved her phone and dialed Jessica’s number.
After what felt like an eternity, Jessica finally picked up.
“Why are you calling me now? Is something wrong?” Jessica’s voice exuded a gentle, calm demeanor, completely oblivious to the internet gossip.
Shadow sneered. A part of her yearned to abandon her facade and teach her enemies a lesson once and for all. However, acting clever now would prove uninteresting. It would be far more captivating to play a long game, slowly revealing her true intentions.
Suppressing her anger, Shadow smiled coldly, straining to keep her voice composed. “Have you heard about the trending topic on Weibo? And the news circulating on other social media platforms?” Shadow had just reviewed the latest updates, discovering that the drama had not only engulfed Weibo but also various other platforms.
The public reveled in the scandalous tales concerning affluent families, eagerly consuming news of their misfortunes. Now, a new chapter in this riveting saga had unfolded, and the media would surely exploit it to its fullest extent.
Jessica responded nonchalantly, “What news? I’m incredibly busy at work. Before my brother returns from studying abroad, I need to assist Dad in managing the company. Unlike you, I don’t have the luxury of indulging in entertainment news during my free time. I have more pressing matters to attend to. So, I’m afraid I can’t engage in gossip with you.”
Though her tone seemed careless, her intent of displaying superiority was evident.
Upon graduating from university, Jessica secured a managerial position at the esteemed Eden Group. As the eldest daughter of the Eden family, this was merely expected of her.
Shadow, on the other hand, never received such an opportunity. She even approached her mother, Lisa, requesting employment at the Eden Group. Yet, Lisa swiftly dismissed the notion, tossing aside her resume with disdain. “You are not as capable as your sister. Do you truly believe you could contribute anything to the company? Go find a job elsewhere.”
Jason, her stepfather, never exhibited any interest in her studies or professional pursuits.
The memory of this injustice fueled Shadow’s anger. Suddenly, she shed her guise and revealed her true emotions. Her voice grew icy and severe.
“Don’t pretend. I know it was you. I don’t know what your intentions are, but even if you attempt to tarnish my reputation, it is futile. I am married into the Lances family. Even if they despise me, they will not permit anyone to destroy my standing, for I am the wife of Alpha Kilian Lances!”

In her understanding, Shadow had always been a foolish woman who readily obeyed their every command. Yet, ever since marrying into the Lances family, Shadow exhibited a newfound astuteness. Something was undeniably different about her.
Although she couldn’t discern the reason behind Shadow’s sudden intellect, it held no significance to her.
For she knew Shadow’s Achilles’ heel.
“Well, it’s all well and good if you don’t care about me, but what about Lisa? Don’t you care about her either?” Jessica smirked confidently.
In the past, whenever Jessica desired Shadow to comply with her wishes, she would involve Lisa. Merely mentioning Lisa’s involvement would cause Shadow to relent. This had always been the case.
Hence, Jessica knew that Lisa held the utmost importance to Shadow.
Upon hearing this, Shadow clenched her phone tightly, biting her lip as she spoke nonchalantly, “Lisa? I couldn’t care less.”
With that, she abruptly ended the call.
Did she truly believe that Shadow would surrender again?
However, as soon as she placed her phone down, Shadow sensed someone’s gaze upon her.
She glanced around, discovering that her door stood wide open. A man leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest.
It took no time at all for her to recognize him-Alpha Dominic!
“How did you enter my room?” Her face turned pale as she recalled explicitly locking the door before bed.
How had he gained access to her room?
