Love’ss 35
Chapter 35
Amelia hurled her phone toward the wall. There was a loud crack as the phone struck the corner of the wall, its screen shattering.
Elena had been looking expectant as she sat on the couch, but a bad feeling crashed over her when she saw Amelia trembling with rage. She asked cautiously, her tone so sad it was almost heartbreaking,” Mom, is Ms. Ellsworth not coming?”
Amelia cursed Madelyn over and over in her heart. She and Elena had already made an appointment with Ashley. The famed designer was supposed to come over today with this year’s couture collection, but Madelyn had intercepted her and ruined their plans.
That wench was challenging Amelia in all the ways she could.
Seeing the tears shining in Elena’s eyes, Amelia hurried to console her. “It’s alright, Elena. I’ll commission a better designer for you. Don’t get upset over an irrelevant has–been like Ashley.”
After hearing Amelia’s brazen taunts over the phone earlier, Amelia knew there was no chance they could commission any of Ashley’s couture designs anymore.
Elena was despondent. She had been hoping to dazzle at Athena’s birthday celebration in Ashley’s couture number, but she heard Madelyn’s voice on the line earlier.
It seemed Madelyn had grown the guts to steal what rightfully belonged to Elena.
Lowering her head, Elena mumbled sadly, “If Maddie likes the gown so much, then we’ll just have to find something else for me to wear to the banquet.”This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
Amelia grew even angrier at Elena’s obliging tone. She had sensed the

change in Madelyn as well. Madelyn had never talked back to her in the past, so what could have possibly led to the shift in her attitude?
“How you could be so kind and generous to Madelyn, I’ll never know,” Amelia said softly, praising Elena. Don’t worry, I promise you’ll still shine at Mrs. Miller Senior’s birthday celebration.”
She dared not make careless promises to Elena, but she would find a way to make up for Ashley’s withdrawal.
A smug gleam flashed in Elena’s eyes when she heard Amelia’s solemn promise. It didn’t matter that Madelyn had gotten Ashley to quit their case. At the end of the day, Madelyn couldn’t change the
fact that Elena was Amelia’s favorite.
Nodding, Elena changed the subject “Grandma called Dad earlier and told him Krista will be returning from abroad next month. She’ll be throwing a welcoming party for Krista, and she wants us there.”
Amelia’s expression turned sour at the mention of Krista Garcia.
Krista’s family had earned Victoria Mendoza’s favor simply because she was so well–accomplished. Amelia, on the other hand, had to put up with Victoria’s scathing remarks because of her two daughters‘
failures.
Madelyn had gotten nothing out of her marriage with Andrew, and Bethany had not made anything of herself despite her time abroad.
“Mom?” Elena tugged on Amelia’s hand when the older woman remained quiet.
Amelia snapped out of her thoughts and gave Elena a stiff smile. Alright, we’ll go back for the welcoming party.”
“Maybe we should invite Madelyn as well,” Elena suggested softly.
“No!” Amelia’s answer was final and without hesitation. She had learned the hard way that Madelyn’s presence would only encourage
more venomous verbal assaults from Victoria. She refused to suffer because of Madelyn again.
However, Elena pointed out gently, But Dad’s company has run into financial trouble. He hasn’t been able to inject more capital into the operation funds, and he can’t get a loan from any bank.
“Maddie cares deeply for you and Dad. If you’re nicer to her, she might just put in a good word for you with Mr. Miller.”
Elena gritted her teeth at this. She had dropped by Miller Group the last two days but could not get an audience with Andrew.
As things were, she could not risk souring her relationship with Madelyn or she would have no excuse to see Andrew anymore. And she couldn’t let Garcia Group fall into ruin either.
When she noticed the hard set to Amelia’s jaw, Elena cajoled, “Don’t worry, Mom. I doubt Grandma would give you or Maddie a hard time with me around.”
“Fine,” Amelia said, relenting. Elena had been her saving grace when it came to dealing with Victoria. Victoria often gave her a hard time because of Madelyn’s and Bethany’s shortcomings, but she cut Amelia some slack whenever Elena was around.
Besides, Caleb was going crazy from the stress of keeping the company afloat now that the funds were running thin. If Andrew refused to back up an inch, it would truly be the end for the Garcias.
Amelia reckoned Madelyn was her greatest disgrace and failure. It was ironic that the family now depended on her to put a good word in
with Andrew.
Madelyn left the Miller residence after dinner, her arms weighed down with bags of various sizes.
