Chapter 10
After they finished eating, Hudson took Rylee shopping for clothes. They passed by a high–end children’s clothing store. Rylee insisted on pulling Hudson inside. She ended up choosing a limited edition dress.
When Hudson asked about the price, it was 19,800 dollars. His expression instantly darkened.
Hudson had grown up poor. During the hardest times, he had to split a packet of noodles in half to make it last.
Even after he became successful, he remained very frugal. The most expensive suit he owned cost less than 8,000 dollars. I had to insist on having it custom–made for him. He accepted it only because he had no choice.
Ayla noticed Hudson’s hesitation. She quickly grabbed Rylee.
“Hudson, this dress is too expensive. Maybe we shouldn’t buy it,” she said.
Hudson returned the dress to the sales assistant and nodded.
“I just think kids grow every year. Spending this much on a dress she’ll only wear for one season is wasteful. Leah’s clothes have never cost more than 500 dollars,” he explained.
Ayla wasn’t happy about it, but she knew she had to be patient to get what she wanted. She nodded in agreement.NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
Rylee wasn’t happy. When a child likes something, they want it, regardless of the cost. “I want it, Daddy. Can you buy it for me? I like that dress. Please buy it for me. I want to wear it to kindergarten,” Rylee pleaded.
Ayla tried to soothe her patiently, but it was no use. Rylee plopped down and began throwing a tantrum.
“I want it! Mommy, you said Leah’s daddy has lots of money. As long as I make him. happy, he’ll buy me anything,” Rylee whined.
Rylee’s words shocked Ayla. She immediately covered Rylee’s mouth and smacked her arm.
“Shut up! What nonsense are you spouting?” Ayla scolded her.
Hudson was visibly stunned. He never expected such words from the usually sweet and obedient Rylee.
It clearly–wasn’t something a child would say.
Seeing Hudson’s expression change, Ayla quickly grabbed him and explained in a panic.
“Hudson, don’t listen to her nonsense. She’s been watching some silly TV dramas with me. She must’ve picked up those lines from them,” she said, trying to explain.
Hudson quickly suppressed his displeasure.
“It’s fine. She’s just a kid,” he said, brushing it off.
Although he said that, Hudson took a step back. He was polite but distant.
Seeing that Rylee had stopped crying, Hudson was ready to leave. When he turned to call for Leah, he realized she was nowhere to be seen. “Leah?” he called out.
