Chapter 25
Chapter 25
Lottie’s POV
“First performance in five!” Brianna yells out to us, as we stand by awaiting for the first half of the football game to conclude.
It was much busier than I had expected, and I couldn’t help but feel Alex hard glare land on me every so often as he ran around on the field…
“Why do I feel so awkward seeing the three of them?!” I groan to Anna, as she nods in agreement and fixes her bouncy auburn ponytail.
“I know right? They keep glaring at us as if we are the bad guys here!” Anna complains, before sticking her tongue out at Jace as he runs by.
Between Alex glaring at me all night and my Mother threatening to phone the police I couldn’t think straight! Not to mention that Jason, Tommy and Holden were very much still trying to find out where I was.
Knowing my Mother, she will be giving them the whole ‘Mother of the year‘ act, which will probably make them believe that she must know exactly where I am – though I’m thankful she doesn’t.
They might think that I’ll get in touch with her at some point to tell her where I went… that’s most likely why they keep going to her home. Either that, or they believe that I’ll actually return at some point.
Ok team let’s do this! Don’t embarrass me!” Brianna calls us over, as I am dragged away from my racing thoughts – bringing me back to reality.
I watch as the players exit the field, scanning the crowd before my eyes lock with Alex‘ stone cold expression yet again.
I gulp and look elsewhere, before Anna tugs at my arm for me to follow them onto the field.
We run on, waving our hands as the very large crowd on the bleachers go wild for us…
It’s in this moment that my nerves kick in and I feel my hands tremble they are all watching us!
I hadn’t thought about this whole ‘cheer‘ thing properly, I didn’t realise there would be so many eyes on us, not to mention Alex, Jace and Del who were also glaring our way.
F**k!
“Ready!” Brianna starts, as we all get into our positions and wait for the music to begin.
I was thankful for the music, since Anna had explained that some schools don’t have the speakers outdoors to play any music so sometimes they just have to do the chants and a routine without it… at least the music will distract me a bit!
“You can do it just smile!” Anna shouts over to me, as I nod and instinctively grit my teeth together when the song eventually starts.
I go through the motions, knowing it from muscle memory as I hit each move as sharply as I can. I then roll to my next space – being sure not to bump into another girl who was passing me at the same time – before I stand up and carry out a jump sequence.
I continue on, suddenly growing nauseous knowing that my first stunt was coming up… despite it being an easy one…
I turn around and gulp, seeing my male partner getting into position.
It’s ok he won’t drop me… we’ve practiced this earlier…
I cartwheel towards him, before stepping up onto his hand – as he pushes me around to sit on his shoulders.
I release I sigh of relief once I am up, before smiling and hitting the high ‘V‘ shape. I hold there for a few counts, before my eyes meet Alex again, his expression growing colder – if at all possible as his eyes burn through me.
I feel my partner shift, signalling that I was to dismount, as I move quickly before landing on my feet. We then perform another dance sequence, before running to our finishing stunts.
The stunt was slightly harder than the first, which made me tense up knowing the section was quickly approaching.
The crowd were cheering and whistling for us, before I reached my stunt group and allowed for them to push me up.
I lock my knees like Brianna had said, avoiding looking down as I feel my hands tremble… I smile and avoid looking nervous in the air before the music ends and the team lower me back down moments after
I did it!
We wave at the crowds, running back off the field, reaching our original waiting area. It is only then that I realise just how terrified I am with my hands quivering by my sides.
“Oh my! We f**king killed that! So good!” Anna rushes to me and hugs me to her – as I giggle at her excitement.
“What do you think?” Anna pulls back and grins, as I nod.
“Terrifying! I don’t know how… but I forgot there would be an audience… I didn’t think it through!” I admit, as she laughs loudly at me.
“You were so good! The stunts both worked too!” Anna encourages me, as I smile and reach for my water.
–
“Now we just have to watch the rest of their boring ass game!” She complains, taking a drink from my water bottle next as we both laugh and turn our attention back to the field where the second half was commencing.
Thankfully, the second half didn’t seem as long as the first, and to top things off our school were winning which made tonight extra special!
I tried my hardest through the remainder of the game to avoid Alex, however found it hard when our eyes would unintentionally meet every so often…
To think he damn well kissed me the other night too!
The memory comes back, as I silently blush and watch on through the last remaining minutes… pushing it aside.
I watch as Alex prepares to kick the ball, everyone watching on with anticipation, before he sends it flying across the field – causing everyone to erupt with cheer moments after.
The game finally ended, and Alex, Jace and Del were jumping around and celebrating their victory seeming happy for the first time tonight.
Look at them!” Anna points, rolling her eyes, causing me to snort and watch them jumping around like idiots.
They break apart, before many players from the team approach our squad… causing my eyebrows to furrow.
What are they coming over here for?
Seconds later, many of the footballers grab the girls – kissing them and lifting them up to join in their celebration – as I realise they must be coming over here to see their girlfriends?
Alex, Jace and Del approach next, as I tilt my head and Anna folds her arms.
“If they try and speak to us I swear I will throw hands!” Anna confirms, as I giggle and watch them get closer.
In that moment, time seems to slow down, as Alex enters our space – looks at me one last time, before roughly pulling Tiffany to face him – before he grabs her face and smashes his lips against hers.
My chest instantly squeezes and tightens, as my mouth drops ever so slightly as I watch him.
Jace and Del both stand there awkwardly, looking just as confused, as Anna’s eyes grow wider by the second.
My chest begins to rise and fall, as an unfamiliar feeling rips into my gut… I need to go… I need to leave!
In that instant, my thoughts cloud my judgement as I push my way through the busy crowd heading back towards the car park.
–
I can’t seem to focus, or control how I feel, I just knew that I was seconds away from crying… and I wouldn’t give him that satisfaction!
I don’t look back, hearing Anna call my name for me to slow down, I just want to rid the image from my mind…
I wanted to get as far away from him as possible! Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
