Chapter 988: Zane, Did It Really Pass?
Yanis adjusted her posture and lazily leaned against Zane's embrace. "No, I just wanted to hug you.
Why do you overthink things?"
Zane looked at her, "Are you really not feeling well?"
Yanis shook her head, "I'm fine."
Seeing Yanis not saying anything more, Zane didn't press further, "I might have to go to Burumal with
Albi tomorrow afternoon and return the day after tomorrow."
Upon hearing this, Yanis sat up, "What are you going to do in Burumal?"
"There's a project we've been working on. It's almost finalized, so I need to go and take a look," Zane
explained softly.
Yanis thought for a moment and looked at Zane, "Can I come with you?"
Zane met Yanis's gaze, "You want to come with me?"
Yanis replied softly, "I don't have much to do during this time. Bonnie is taking care of things, so she
doesn't need me. Besides, I've never gone out with you, nor have I been to Burumal."
As Yanis finished speaking, Zane reached for his phone from the side, "I'll ask Albi to book tickets for NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
us right now."
Yanis nodded, "Okay."
While Zane was on the phone with Albi, Yanis got up and fetched a clean towel to help Zane dry his
hair.
After giving Albi instructions, Zane put his phone aside and reached for the towel from Yanis's hand, "I'll
do it myself."
Yanis looked at him, "Let me help you."
Zane met Yanis's gaze, and a slight smile appeared on his lips as he withdrew his hand, "Alright."
After drying his hair, Yanis put the towel back and returned to the bedroom, snuggling back into Zane's
embrace as before.
"Have you thought about telling me now?" Zane held her close and asked softly.
Upon hearing Zane's words, Yanis looked up at him, "Tell you what?"
Zane looked at her without saying anything.
Yanis quickly understood what he meant from his gaze.
The two locked eyes for a while, and Yanis adjusted her posture, hugging Zane and whispering, "I'm
not feeling bad. I just suddenly thought about some things that I can't figure out."
"What things?"
Yanis remained silent for a few seconds before speaking again, "Back then, she abandoned me in the
Thompson family so she could marry into the Baxter family. Now that her wish has come true, why
does she want to acknowledge me?"
As Yanis spoke, she paused and continued, "And what about you? She treated you so poorly, why
should she have any claim over you?"
Lucia had done quite a lot of good deeds in her life. However, Yanis couldn't understand what Lucia
really meant to Zane. Why did she still treat him that way at the end of her life?
Zane held Yanis's hand a little tighter after hearing her words, "Why are you thinking about these
things?"
Yanis replied softly, "I was talking to my grandmother earlier, and it came up."
"No matter what happened in the past, it's all over now."
"Zane, is it really over?"
Zane looked at Yanis, wanting to say something, but the things Lucia had done suddenly left him
speechless.
He could move on from what Lucia did to him and Anika, but he couldn't forgive her for what she did to
Yanis.
He was well aware that the child who had almost come into this world but didn't was a permanent scar
in Yanis's heart. So, he couldn't respond to Yanis's words at this moment.
Seeing the look in his eyes, Yanis could tell that he was filled with heartache.
Zane could only distract Yanis from these sad thoughts with his actions. Lowering his head, he kissed
Yanis, and she didn't resist, but instead, she cooperated willingly.
The crescent moon outside, having witnessed the scene in the city, silently hid behind the dark clouds
once again.
Yanis was more clingy than usual this night.
Afterward, Zane looked at the obediently sleeping Yanis in his arms, feeling nothing but heartache for
her.
To avoid disturbing her sleep, Zane got up and fetched a towel to gently wipe Yanis's body before
taking a shower himself. He then returned to the bed and pulled her into his embrace.
This night was barely a peaceful dream.
As the sun rose, Zane informed the housekeeper not to disturb Yanis's rest and headed to the
company to arrange some business matters.
When Yanis woke up, it was already eight or nine in the morning.
The sun was shining brightly outside, and her stomach felt a little bloated. The events of last night
crossed her mind, causing her brow to furrow slightly.
At this moment, there was a knock on the door, and the housekeeper's voice came from outside, "Mrs.
Lawrence, are you awake?"
Yanis responded, "Yes."
"Ivan is here."
Hearing the housekeeper's words, Yanis replied, "I'll be right down."
After replying to the housekeeper, Yanis quickly got out of bed, freshened up, and went downstairs.
As Yanis came downstairs, she found Ivan sitting in the living room, talking on the phone.
When Ivan saw Yanis coming down, he said a few words to the person on the phone and then hung up.
"Why didn't you let me know in advance that you were coming?" Yanis said softly as she looked at Ivan
after he ended the call.
Ivan replied, "I didn't plan to come, but I thought I should
inform you. However, I decided to come over to see you. I'm not sure when I'll be able to come back
again after this."
Upon hearing this, Yanis instantly realized, "Are you going back to M Country?"
"There are many things over there that need to be handled. Darin can't handle it alone, and there's not
much for me to do here, so I plan to go back first," Ivan explained.
Yanis paused for a moment and looked at Ivan, "But isn't she still in the hospital?"
"There's nothing major going on with her. I talked to my father, and he knows that I'm going back," Ivan
replied.
Hearing Ivan's explanation, Yanis didn't say anything further, "You should go then."
Ivan said, "Take care of yourself."
Originally, there were many things he wanted to say, but now that they were face to face, he didn't
know what to say that would be appropriate.
Ivan didn't stay long at D-King Castle. After chatting briefly with Yanis, he left directly.
Yanis saw Ivan off at the door. After he left, she stood there for a moment before turning back inside.
"Mrs. Lawrence, what would you like to eat?" The housekeeper stepped forward as she saw Yanis
returning and asked softly.
