Chapter 1040: Do You Wish I Were a Boy?
Early the next day, Bonnie took Mles and left D-king Castle.
After dropping Mles off at Cooke Residence, Bonnie headed to the store.
Yanis, on the other hand, didn't wake up until around seven or eight in the morning.
When Yanis finally woke up, Aunt Gloria was the only one at home.
"Aunt Gloria, where's Bonnie and the others?" Yanis asked.
Aunt Gloria was busy cleaning and turned to Yanis when she heard her voice. She replied softly, "Mrs. NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence went to the company just now, and Miss Cooke took the child back home
early in the morning."
Yanis nodded, "And Aunt Alice?"
"She went grocery shopping. Mr. Lawrence said we were running low on ingredients, so he gave Aunt
Alice a list to buy."
Yanis acknowledged with a murmur, not pressing further.
Aunt Gloria turned and entered the kitchen, bringing breakfast out and placing it in front of Yanis. "Mrs.
Lawrence, this was personally prepared by Mr. Lawrence. Enjoy while it's hot."
Yanis nodded again, "You can go about your tasks."
After breakfast, Yanis sat down on the living room sofa and called Zane.
Zane picked up quickly after the call connected. "Awake?"
Yanis replied with an "Mm," "Why didn't you wake me up when you left in the morning?"
"Had some things to handle, and you were still asleep. I didn't want to disturb you."
Yanis chuckled softly, "Zane, I'm so bored all by myself at home."
Upon hearing Yanis's words, Zane responded softly, "Want to come to the company?"
"Are you busy now?"
"I'll have Albi come to pick you up."
"Alright."
Meanwhile, at the Lawrence Mansion...
After ending the call with Yanis, Zane looked at Dylan. "That's what she said."
Dylan listened to Zane and remained silent for a while before speaking.
"Did you agree?" Phoebe, upon Zane's silence, turned to him and asked.
Zane shook his head, "She didn't give me a chance to speak, just hung up."
Phoebe furrowed her brows and turned to Dylan, "Dad, what do you think?"
Dylan, being directly questioned by Phoebe, finally spoke, "I'll consider it."
"No time for that."
"If she doesn't want the child to come back here, then let the child stay at the Lawrence Mansion."
As Zane finished his sentence, Rachel's voice chimed in.
Zane glanced in the direction of the voice.
Rachel descended the stairs and took a seat on the couch, her gaze fixed on Zane. "Since the child
belongs to the Lawrences, it's only fitting for the child to stay with the Lawrence family. How will it look if
the child stays with you and Yanis?"
Zane raised an eyebrow, "What if she disagrees?"
Rachel calmly stated, "Zane, you had a close relationship with her before. Talk to her. If she still insists
on keeping the child with you, then it's up to you. But I don't recommend having the child stay with you
and Yanis, especially considering your own child in the future."
Zane had kept Yanis's pregnancy a secret, so Phoebe hadn't informed anyone.
After hearing Rachel's words, Phoebe also added, thinking of Yanis's situation, "Brother, talk to her and
have the child stay at the Lawrence Mansion. You can hire a nanny and with Grandpa and Grandma
around, there won't be any issues. It's not appropriate to keep the child with you."
Zane acknowledged softly, "I understand."
With that, Zane stood up, "I'll head back to the company."
Dylan accompanied Zane to the door, "Zane, I actually want the child to stay with me, but you know
Aunt Rachel wouldn't agree. So... consider this a plea from me. Talk to Lisa, have her leave the child at
the Lawrence Mansion, and assure her you'll take care of them."
Zane looked at Dylan, hesitating to say something, but then swallowed his words.
He shifted the topic, whispering, "I'll give it a try."
Dylan nodded, "Alright, thank you."
Zane acknowledged and left in his car.
Dylan stood there, watching Zane's car drive away before turning back to go inside.
As he turned, he noticed Phoebe coming out from inside the house. Dylan paused, "You're going out?"
Phoebe approached Dylan, speaking softly, "I came to talk to you."
Dylan was visibly surprised, "Talk to me?"
Phoebe nodded and took a few steps closer, looking at Dylan closely, "Dad, there's something I've
been wanting to ask you."
Dylan met Phoebe's gaze, "What is it?"
Phoebe's eyes remained fixed on Dylan's face as she spoke, each word carefully enunciated, "Dad,
have you always wished you had a son?"
Dylan was taken aback by the question, struggling to find words to respond.
Before he could explain himself, Phoebe continued, "You've always been disappointed, haven't you?
Disappointed that I'm not a boy."
In the face of Phoebe's questioning, Dylan was left speechless.
After a brief silence, Phoebe continued without waiting for Dylan's explanation, "Now that you know you
have a son, you must be quite happy, right?"
Phoebe's words seemed to strike at the heart of Dylan's desires.
It was true that Dylan had wanted a son.
When Phoebe was born, he had been happy, believing that even if she was a girl, they could have
another child. Having a son and a daughter would have been wonderful. But then, with Rachel's
miscarriage and Lisa's abortion, he had felt guilt over not allowing Lisa to keep the child.
So over the years, there had been moments when he had indeed wished for a son.
But such wishes were just that-wishes.
Phoebe couldn't transform into a boy.
Time couldn't be turned back.
"Phoebe, what I did in the past was wrong, but no matter what, so much time has passed now, and I..."
"I don't object."
Before Dylan could finish his sentence, Phoebe interrupted, "I don't object to you wanting to
acknowledge him. But you can't divorce Mom. If you divorce her, I'll leave the Lawrence family along
with her. I won't have anything to do with you from now on."
Phoebe's words left Dylan stunned for a moment.
"I have something to attend to, so I'll go now."
Without waiting for further response from Dylan, Phoebe turned and walked away.
