Chapter 2359
Chapter 2359
"No, that's impossible! Why wouldn't my daughter want to see me?" Maria found Austin’s reasoning
hard to accept. "I bet she must be in some kind of danger."
Austin shook his head. "She's now under the embassy’s protection. Also, she's a danger to others, not NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
the other way around."
"That's a lie!" Maria shouted and glared at Austin. “Rhea is very well-behaved and smart. You guys only
took her away because you're jealous of her!"
Austin was at a loss for words. He glanced helplessly at Alexander and saw him frowning at Maria.
She looked as if she hadn't rested for several days—not only was her hair disheveled, but her clothes
were a mess, and her eyes were bloodshot.
"She's not with us," Alexander said blandly. To him, Maria was just an ignorant and rather pathetic
woman. She wasn't aware of the many things Rhea had done behind her back and Rhea's resentment
toward her.
When Maria realized what had happened, she blamed herself and indulged Rhea’s wishes. Maria
wanted to make amends, but it only worsened things.
"I don't buy it!" Maria suddenly thought of something. "You guys must be working together to trick me.
Return my Rhea to me, or I’ll kill you all!"
She pulled out a cleaver and suddenly lunged at Alexander. Still, she could do nothing against him. He
effortlessly grabbed her wrist and pulled her arm behind her back.
Maria grunted and quickly let go of the cleaver, causing it to drop to the ground with a clang.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk…" Austin walked over and picked up the weapon. It was a cleaver that seemed newly
purchased. He never expected the indecisive woman to do such a thing.
"Hey, Rhea is not with us, got it? Why can't you get it through that thick skull of—"
Before Austin could finish, Alexander interrupted, "Your daughter is somewhere safe. However, she's
doing a special assignment and can't see you for now. What you need to do is to go home and don't
cause her any trouble."
Austin was bewildered. Yet, Alexander’s words were effective.
Maria suddenly calmed down and tried hard to process what he said. "Really?"
"Yes. Your daughter doesn't like you to interfere with her work, does she?" he asked.
Maria cocked her head thoughtfully and nodded. "You're right! She doesn't like me asking about her
work. I won't ask about it then."
Placing a finger to her lip, she looked flustered with her eyes wide open.
"I'll go home then. Tell Rhea that I won't cause her any trouble!" she said earnestly, holding Alexander's
wrists, no longer treating him as an enemy.
Alexander grunted and said, "We'll tell her that."
Maria sighed in relief and slowly turned to walk away.
