Chapter 228 Be Late
Chapter 228 Be Late
"Well I will be ever grateful, " Andy responded with a bright and optimistic smile. He was somewhat
comforted on hearing this as they were still worried about it. But they realized if Charles would like to
do them this favor, then things would get better results when compared with their effort alone. And this
was the right way to go about it. "I had a chat with my father-in-law about this. Though Autumn gets
along very well with my little daughter, Cindy, she is still not familiar with our entire family. So we were
hoping to get in touch with her as strangers instead of her family members so that she could get to
know us gradually. Sometimes in this manner she may come to like our family, and after understanding
the situation, it may become easier for her to accept the truth. What do you think?"
"Okay. Please do as you think appropriate, " responded Charles. He nodded in approval and went on to
add, "I am just happy about the prospect of Autumn reuniting with her family members who will actually
accept, love and cherish her as she is. I have no other wishes. But I just hope that she would not
improperly belittle herself in front of me. The essential thing is that she should be able to be more
nerved in face of Wendy."
"I know. I understand your concerns." Andy nodded in agreement. "Well, then since everything seems
to be in order we will wait for your arrival at home tomorrow, " said Andy with great appreciation.
"Okay, " replied Charles briefly. At the moment, Chris was feeling bored in one corner of the room. She
approached Autumn once she saw a little and lovely girl sitting beside her. Chris walked over and
started to play with Cindy who didn't reject her at all, and was frolicking cheerfully.
"Autumn, who is this child? She is so adorable and lovely. I like her very much." Chris asked Autumn
while poking fun at her. "Wow, Autumn, she looks very much like you. Don't you see the striking
resemblance? Is she your illegitimate daughter?" Chris joked around with Autumn.
"Chris, what nonsense are you babbling." Patting Chris's back gently, Autumn complained, "I came
across Cindy in Z City when I traveled there. This is her mother. Please don't crack such jokes in her
presence."
Saying this, Autumn took a glance at Abby to check her temperament as Autumn was afraid that Abby
would be annoyed by such an absurd and inappropriate joke.
"It really does not matter. It is just a joke." Abby smiled softly and jumped into the conversation, "Cindy
looks like me while in fact I look a little like Autumn, so it is no wonder you feel that way." Abby
explained to Chris patiently.
Upon hearing this, Chris glanced back and forth at Autumn and Abby, who indeed looked very much
like Autumn. They were as alike as two peas in a pod. Chris marveled at such a "coincidence" of their
striking resemblance.
"Autumn, please have a child with my brother soon. I mean look at how adorable Cindy is! Don't you
want a lovely daughter like her? I also look forward to have a lovely niece jumping and playing around
in the house." Chris kept joking as Autumn soon blushed out of embarrassment. However, in that
moment she was also happy at the thought of having a baby with Charles in the near future.
"Yes, your sister is right. You have been married to Mr. Lu for quite a while now. So why don't you have
a baby with him, Autumn?" Abby also echoed Chris's sentiments and thoughts. Looking at Autumn,
Abby rejoiced in secret at a stroke of luck as she almost revealed her identity to Autumn. Luckily, Andy
stopped her in time. "Well, where is Sam? Why didn't I see him around today?"
Chris was taken aback as she heard Abby mention the name of Sam. Chris was always waiting for his
presence but he still didn't show up even after all the time that had passed.
Taking a look at Chris, expressionless yet a little bit upset, Autumn hastily explained, "He has moved
abroad and he won't come back soon."
In fact, Sam had actually called Autumn this very morning, telling her that he intended to come back
soon as he knew that it was Chris's birthday. However, his flight had been delayed, so he asked
Autumn for help and he hoped that Autumn would explain it to Chris and told her that he would come
back later. But Autumn forced herself not to inform Chris this news. She simply felt that it was more
appropriate for Sam to explain it in person.
And on the other hand, she hoped Sam would surprise her. Perhaps, Chris would be more cheerful if
Sam could wish her a happy birthday personally.
"Oh, I see." Abby replied while nodding her head.
After remaining silent for a long while, Chris turned to Autumn, expressionless. "Autumn... Did he
contact you recently?"
"He called me once." Autumn replied as Chris looked even more upset than before.
Chris had remained angry at Sam even after he left. She drowned herself under a sea of work in a bid
to avoid thinking of him even for a single moment. However, the moment she would slow down to catch
a breath, the thought of Sam would catch her unguarded.
However, even though she missed him with all of her aching heart, she restrained herself from calling
him as she simply wanted to see if Sam would take the first step and get in touch.
Chris consoled herself and made up excuses for him in her mind. Perhaps he was busy with his work,
so he did not have time to contact her. But now it turned out that she was wrong, because Sam took
the initiative to get in touch with Autumn but he didn't even bother to send a message to Chris.
With these thoughts, Chris stood up and said, "Autumn, I... I am a little tired now and I need to rest."
"What's wrong? Are you fine?" Autumn asked her with concern as she reached out to touch her
forehead to check if she had a fever. However, Chris dodged her hands subconsciously.
But soon Chris realized that her cold attitude may hurt Autumn. Therefore, she turned to Autumn and
explained hastily, "Autumn, I am fine. I just need to rest. Please don't worry. It is nothing. A quick nap
will fix."
Soon after finishing her sentence, she turned to leave before Autumn could say something. However, in
a rush she tripped and fell into someone's arms. "I am so sorry, " said Chris in a shaky voice with her
head lowered. She got up on her feet and began to leave as she was embarrassed. But soon she
heard a familiar voice from behind, "Is this how you intended to greet me?"
As soon as she put a face to the voice, Chris turned around in shock and happiness but still did not
raise her head. It wasn't until she heard Sam's voice again that she did believe this reality. Tears soon
trickled down her cheeks as she was unable to control the sudden surge of emotions.
"Don't cry, Chris. Please don't cry." Obviously, Sam was startled by Chris while Abby was curious about
what was happening. "What happened to them? Have they been seeing each other?" Abby asked with
eyes glimmering with hope.
Autumn shook her head slightly with a smile and then she added, "But... they will soon be in a
relationship."
It took Chris a long time to stop crying but she finally calmed down on seeing his face. But she still was
unhappy about this surprise, about the fact that Sam took the initiative to call Autumn instead of her.
In a cinematic move, the crowds cleared from the center to make way for some dancing as music
sounded and made the room come alive. There was a young man who took a fancy to Lu family's
fortune and came to strike up a conversation with Chris. "Hello, Miss Lu, would you like to have a
dance with me?" The man said while reaching out his hands, waiting for Chris's answer.
"Sure, I would love to." Chris responded as she reached out without any hesitation.
Astonished, Sam looked at Chris, walking away with another man. Upon seeing this turn of events,
Autumn stepped forward as she laughed at him, "It may seem that Chris is mad at you."
"You are laughing at me, Autumn." Sam pretended to blame Autumn. "I asked you to help me by
explaining what happened to Chris. Then why is she still so angry with me?"
"I remember that you said you don't love her, " said Autumn. Taking a glimpse at Sam, she turned to
Charles and said, "Now if you don't love her, then why do you care so much about what she thinks and
feels about you?"
Saying this, Autumn paused for a few seconds and then continued, "I have discussed this matter at
lengths with Charles. Chris is a beautiful girl and she comes from a notable family, so it is easy for her
to find a brilliant bachelor suitable for her. Now that you don't love her, we hope she won't waste any
more of her time on you. We held this birthday party for her so as to introduce her to some good men.
And we will search for a suitable man for her until she finds a boyfriend." Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Autumn grinned while saying this to Sam. "Her brother and I will take care of her alliance with a
suitable man. You don't have to worry about this anymore, Sam, " said Autumn in a soft yet assertive
tone.
