Chapter 684 Not A Kind Person After All
Laurel fidgeted as she felt uncomfortable being around Ford Group's CEO. She was surprised to see
how down-to-earth the rich and powerful man was.
She would not have believed her eyes had she not witnessed how he was discussing on what to order
for breakfast with Skylar.
Laurel carried her handbag on her shoulder and got up from the couch. “I'll be taking my leave now.
Have a nice day.”
“Hold on.” Tobias' voice sounded from her back, and she turned around to look at him. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
“Gavin is going to get married soon and has given out the wedding invitation cards. But he still wished
to see you,” he said.
Laurel did not expect someone as emotionally distant as Tobias would help Gavin convey his message.
Skylar took a glance at Laurel and cast a surprised look at Tobias. “You two know each other?”
Tobias and Laurel did not respond to Skylar's question.
Laurel looked at Tobias and said, “I don't think we should meet anymore. I wish him a happy marriage.
Please send my regards to him and his wife, Mr. Ford.”
Tobias nodded and ended the conversation.
Skylar spent the entire morning asking Tobias questions, and she eventually found out that Laurel and
Gavin had dated for years.
The Browns could not accept Laurel after finding out her background, and they eventually forced Gavin
to marry another woman from a wealthy family.
Skylar continued asking Tobias a few more questions, but he refused to answer her in detail.
Tobias gave her a judgmental look. “You women are such nosey parkers.”
Skylar begged to differ. “I'm only concerned about my subordinate.”
Laurel's story had affected Skylar. Marrying into a wealthy family can be tricky. I wonder who Tobias will
marry in the future.
Would I be able to accept my fate if I were in Laurel's shoes? Would I wish Tobias a happy marriage?
Tobias brought over the first-aid kit and gestured for Skylar to come nearer. Skylar inched closer and
reached out her arm for Tobias to change her bandage.
Tobias asked, “I'm still waiting for you to tell me about your injury. What happened to your arm?”
Skylar kept her eyes shut as she did not want to see the cut on her fair complexion. “You men are just
as nosey.”
Skylar's stubbornness had gotten on Tobias' nerves, so he decided to threaten her. “I'll get someone to
investigate if you refused to tell me, and I'll be able to find out everything you did yesterday in half an
hour. So you'd better come clean right now, or you'll have to face the music.”
The gentleness in his eyes vanished in the blink of an eye.
His threat sent chills down Skylar's spine. She dared not look into Tobias' eyes.
“Avery did this. She got mad when she found out she'll be marrying Charles. She picked up a knife and
charged at me...”
Skylar was never a tattletale. She would always suffer in silence and choose not to tell on her bullies.
This was because she knew no one would side with her.
In the past, whenever she reported her bullies to the teachers, the teachers would always speak in
favor of students who performed well academically or those coming from well-to-do families. On the
contrary, the teachers would often give her a disdainful look.
Whenever Skylar complained to her grandmother, her grandmother would always blame her for being a
troublemaker and not understanding her family's plight.
Skylar could sense Tobias' frustration on his face. He looked at her and said, “I gave Thomas three
days, and today is the last day. So we'll proceed with Avery's wedding.”
For some reason, Skylar felt bad for her half-sister. Although Avery had committed many evil deeds,
Skylar could not imagine how Avery would suffer for the rest of her life if she were to marry Charles.
However, when Skylar was about to persuade Tobias to let her off, she suddenly recalled all the nasty
things Avery had done to her. I have to be selfish for once. I have to hold grudges against her to protect
myself. If I don't seize this opportunity to teach her a lesson, Avery might cause more trouble in the
future.
