Chapter 665 Burning Bridges
Colleen called the next morning to notify Skylar that they would be celebrating Thomas' birthday the
following day for fear of Skylar going back on her word at the last minute.
Skylar gazed out of the window as she stirred her coffee absent-mindedly.
She had not quite forgiven Avery for having Charles kidnap her and intended to keep a distance from
the Joneses for the time being.
I can't keep making excuses for Avery anymore. I have been too tolerant of her abuse which has
become even worse as time passed.
Although it was high time that the saga of their animosity come to a conclusion, Skylar remained
hopeful of the possibility that the evidence could be corroborated to reveal Avery's true colors.
I'll show everyone that she's a two-faced, vicious, and manipulative woman. But then again, how many
people would believe me? Besides, the only evidence is Charles' words. After taking the money I
offered him, it would be even more unlikely that he will help me expose her.
At that infuriating thought, Skylar threw the spoon into the ceramic cup with a discordant clang.
She had even pondered the matter from Tobias' perspective. What would I do if I were him?
Skylar poured away the remaining coffee into the sink. As they had run out of milk and sugar, the black
coffee was torturous to her palette. NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
After washing the cup, she went up to the study in search of Tobias.
It did not seem as if he intended to leave the house that day. Having been in the study the entire
morning, he had not come downstairs even once.
Skylar pushed open the door to the smoky room billowing from the cigarette between Tobias' fingers.
She knew from the earpiece in his right ear that he was conducting a virtual meeting.
She moved lightly as she did not want to disturb him. Just as she was about to exit the room, Tobias
closed his laptop with one hand whilst beckoning her over with the other.
She stopped and went to sit on the couch beneath the window. “I didn't happen to disturb you, did I?”
Tobias put out his cigarette and shifted in his seat to face Skylar. “You didn't. What are you doing here?
Are you bored and want some company?”
She had indeed wanted to spend time with him out of boredom. It scared Skylar that she did not know
exactly when she had turned into a person who did not look forward to things anymore. She used to
shudder at the thought of being shut up in the house all day long.
Now, boredom seemed to be a regular part of her routine. When she was not at work, she would prefer
to lay on the couch to nap or binge-watch some dramas. The only couple activity Tobias and I do
together is each other.
Skylar gave her head a little shake and chastised herself for fantasizing in the middle of the day. In fact,
her soreness from last night persisted the moment she woke up in a state of great discomfort.
It's an awkward topic to discuss with anybody I know, and I can't go to the hospital for it. I dare not even
wear my fitting jeans! As much of it is his fault, it would appear churlish to hold a grudge against Tobias.
“What if,” she asked suddenly, “and I say what if, there was a person who picked on you your entire life.
What would you do?”
Tobias could not relate. “I can't help you with that since it had never happened to me before. Did
something happen to you? Are those two from the Jones family messing with you again?”
He gets me even when I did not explicitly tell him what's bothering me.
Skylar told Tobias everything that had been happening with Avery.
When she was done, Tobias' eyes glinted menacingly.
“What should I do if she's determined to make my life hell? Burn that bridge with her? Even so, not
many would believe me. Avery has a reputation for being soft-spoken and gentle. The Joneses love
her. They will blame me for starting it instead.”
