Chapter 200 Norah's Origins
Norah looked at the bread in her hand, her eyes stinging with tears.
The bread warmed her hands.
She had never felt any warmth from her father since she was little.
For her, the word 'father' was just an appellation and held no meaning.
However, when a moment of family affection suddenly came, she realized that she was just a child who
longed for the warmth of fatherly love like everyone else.
She couldn't ask for more than a loaf of bread. She was quite content.
The rims of her eyes reddened.
Norah took a deep breath and shoved the bread into her mouth.
It was tasty. The flavor hadn't changed.
Seeing that she ate one, Kelvin immediately stood by her side and gingerly asked, "How is it? Good?"
"Not bad."
"Good! Have more then."
Norah ate a few more, but halfway through eating, Kelvin suddenly spoke again. "If you still regard me
as your father, help me. I'm at the end of my rope."
Upon hearing that, Norah abruptly stopped moving.
A request?
Heh, there he came again.
In the end, the joke was on her.
"So, you bought the bread today not to make up for any fatherly love but just to achieve your goal. To
make me go soft and give you more money, right?"
"It's not like that. I'm your father. Isn't it normal for me to buy you breakfast?"
"Normal?" Norah sneered. "As a father, you have only bought me breakfast once in the past 20 years.
Do you think that's normal? Anyone but you can say that.
"You want money? Fine. How much do you want this time?"
Kelvin's eyes lit up, and he held up a finger.
"15,000 dollars?" Norah asked.
He shook his head and spoke cautiously. "$150,000."
"Heh..." Norah scoffed, tossing the bread into a nearby trash can. "You know what? Not to mention
$150,000 or $15,000, I don't even have $1,500."
Kelvin's face fell when he heard Norah's refusal.
"No matter what, I'm your father. Are you really going to abandon me?" © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
"Is that your go-to line every time? Ask yourself. Have you ever fulfilled your duty as a father? When
have you ever come to me for anything other than money, eh?" Norah couldn't help but shout.
"I know I failed you, but ever since Martin took you in, you've been living a life of luxury, with fine food
and drink. I am unable to provide that kind of life for you."
"Is money all I want? What I want is fatherly love. Do you even understand that?"
The more she spoke, the angrier Norah became.
"I know, but look at the state I'm in. If I took you back, you'd only have to endure a life of hardship with
me."
"I'd rather face those bitter days and still be happy."
Norah yelled at him, unwilling to be there for another second.
She walked straight ahead.
But Kelvin was relentless. Norah quickly hailed a taxi and hurried off.
But she underestimated Kelvin's determination to find her.
Not long after she arrived at the hospital, a nurse from the front desk hurried over. "Norah, there's an
old man at the information desk insisting on seeing you. He claims to be your father and won't leave
until he's met with you."
"Apologies for the inconvenience. I'll handle it right away."
Norah took a break and rushed over.
She found Kelvin and dragged him away.
Once they reached a secluded area, Norah glared at him and snapped, "What exactly do you want?
"If you're after money, I've told you that I don't have a cent, not to mention 150,000 dollars."
Kelvin gave a sycophantic smile. "I know you don't, but my dear son-in-law, Shawn, does. $150,000 is
nothing to him, just a drop in the bucket. A little generosity from him would be more than enough for
me."
So, he was after Shawn's money again.
"No matter whose money it is, I won't give you a cent, so don't even dream about it."
"Norah, you ungrateful girl, do you have any conscience left? Do you know the situation I'm in? I owe
someone $150,000, and they said if I don't pay within the next two days, they'll chop off one of my arms
and one of my legs."
"Let them chop," Norah said without hesitation.
Kelvin cursed immediately, his face twisted with anger. "You heartless creature, you're unwilling even to
save your dad? What is your heart made of? How can you be so cruel?"
"I'll say it again. I don't have any money, not a cent. Don't come looking for me again."
"Fine!" Kelvin gritted his teeth and said, "Then I'll go to my son-in-law to ask for it. $150,000 is just
pocket change for him. He can easily afford it."
"Have you no shame? Why should Shawn give you money for nothing? Who gives you the nerve to
ask him for it? He's already given you enough."
"Why should he?" Kelvin sneered. "Because I don't have a son, and he is my son-in-law. So, isn't it only
natural for him to help me out?"
Norah stared at him, unable to hold back any longer. "It's useless for you to go to him. We're already
divorced."
Upon hearing that, Kelvin froze and quickly spun around. His eyes were wide with disbelief. "What
were you saying? Say it again?
"You're divorced? When?"
"You don't need to know the details. All you need to know is that we're divorced. So, he won't and can't
give you any money. Just give up on that idea."
Norah's words struck Kelvin like a bolt of lightning.
He stood there, dumbfounded, for a moment before finally reacting.
"I don't care what kind of relationship you and Shawn have now. I have only one demand. You must
raise $150,000 for me by tomorrow."
"Fat chance!" Norah refused outright.
Kelvin sneered. "There are some things I haven't told you because I wanted to get some benefits from
Shawn. Well, now that I can't get any more money from him, I don't care anymore.
"Since you're willing to see me lose an arm and a leg, and you've forgotten the bond between father
and daughter, I have nothing to hide. Do you know why your beautiful mother married a drunkard and
gambler like me? Do you know why I never liked you?"
When Norah heard that, her chest heaved with emotion.
She had always felt that there was some hidden truth waiting to be uncovered.
"Why?" Her voice trembled.
"Because that wretched mother of yours was already pregnant when she married me. She was
carrying your cursed existence, and no one wanted her. She was the one who begged me to marry
her."
