Chapter 138 Susan Knew They Would Get Divorced
"Dad and mum, why do you suddenly come back?" Norah said, with a hint of panic in her heart.
"We have something to deal with, just in time to return for lunch. Why did you and Shawn come back
without telling us in advance? I should have let the cooks cook some of your favourite dishes." Susan
asked.
Norah hooked her lips and smiled, "Mom, no need. We also decided to come back all of a sudden. It's
not a big deal. We'll leave in a while and won't eat lunch at home."
"It's just a meal. It won't take you a long time. Just wait for a moment. I'll ask the cooks to add a few
more dishes." Susan said, walking towards the kitchen.
"Mom..." Norah immediately stopped her, "No need. Shawn and I still have some things to deal with in
a hurry."
Saying so, Norah reached out and pulled Lu Shawn's hand.
Shawn knew that she was asking for help.
If it were usual, he would have been happy to help her. But this time, he was selfish and thought that if
his mother knew about the divorce, she could help him keep Norah.
Then it was possible for them not to get divorced.
"Is it so important that you have to do it now? Can't you do it an hour later?" Susan asked.
Norah was not good at lying, so she raised her head and smiled brightly, trying to hide the panic inside
with her smile.
"Mom, the place will close at noon. So, Shawn and I want to make it there by noon."
Norah smiled brightly and gently but said those words with a firm attitude.
Susan sighed, and her mood dropped, "In such a case, go ahead. I won't keep you guys."
Norah stepped forward and took Shawn by the arm. As the two turned around, Marty opened his mouth
and said suddenly, "Norah..."
Just as he called her, Susan immediately reached out and yanked his hand, her beautiful eyes glaring
at him.
"Dad, what's the matter?" Norah turned around.
"Nothing." Marty waved his hand, his stern voice sounding like he had suddenly aged. "I just want to
say that you should come back and visit us more often in the future."
"Okay," Norah answered with bitterness.
After saying that, her heart was full of bitterness.
"I'm sorry", she thought. This time she lied.
After the divorce, she would visit them less. Apart from visiting Grandpa, she wouldn't come back
again.
Watching their backs fade away until they were no longer visible, Susan immediately turned around
and covered her lips, tears falling out of her eyes.
"Since you guessed it, why don't you let me persuade them?" Marty helped her to sit down on the sofa.
Susan wiped her tears as she choked up and spoke, "Didn't you see Norah's attitude and expression?
She is determined to get a divorce. It's useless persuading her to change her mind with just a few
words."
As a woman, she knew how determined and heartbroken Norah was.
"Besides, even if you want to save their marriage. It's not you, but Shawn should do something."
"It's good for them to divorce, letting that brat suffer. He makes me so angry that I want to beat him and
let him wake up. Why he didn't cherish his wife but hook up with other women?"
Susan was very sad, but she was irritated once she thought of what Shawn had done.
The more she said, the more furious she became.
Marty could only persuade her at the side.
It was only after a long time that Susan calmed down a little.
Marty was still frowning, "I'm afraid that once they get divorced, there will be no more possibilities for
them to bury the hatchet."
Susan could not agree with his words more.
She was silent and spoke with a heavy heart, "It depends on his fate. If he repents and cherishes her,
he will find a way to chase back Norah."
"If he misses out, it is because he lacks fortune."
With a heavy sigh, Susan lost her appetite and went upstairs.
Though Susan said so, she did not want them to get divorced.
Norah was the granddaughter-in-law that Marty's father had chosen. Before he passed away, he held
Shawn and Norah's hands and told them not to divorce.
Now if they got divorced, how could she face her father?
Moreover, it was not easy for the two to become husband and wife. If Shawn got divorced from Norah
and lost his life partner, could Susan, as Shawn's mother, be happy?
However, Susan also knew clearly that Norah had already decided. Her eyes and words were all so
firm that she did not give herself any way back.
Would it work if they persuaded them?
It wouldn't change anything but would only alienate Norah from them.
This was the reason why she pretended not to know.
Susan immediately picked up her mobile phone and called her secretary, telling her to ask Shawn to
return to the office quickly because something urgent happened.
"Son, this is the last thing your mom can do for you. I hope you can learn to cherish Susan in the
future."
After hanging up the phone, Susan took a small white pill from the pill box and drank it with warm water
before lying on the bed for a lunch break.
Leaving the mansion, Norah looked at the time on her phone and then turned to Lu Shawn, "The Civil
Affairs Bureau will close in an hour. We have enough time to get there in half an hour from here. Let's
go!"
After saying that, Norah walked ahead of Shawn.
Shawn looked at her back, and his heart was sour.
It was sour and astringent, bitter and salty.
"Norah..." Suddenly, Shawn said towards Norah's back.
"What?"
Norah turned around. Facing the bright sunlight, she looked at him with a soft expression. She was
enveloped by the golden sunlight and full of tenderness, so beautiful that others could not move their
eyes from her face.
So, in the days to come, even after many years, Shawn still clearly remembered her gentleness and
beauty at this time.
"I'm sorry, there's a bit of an emergency at work. So I cannot accompany you to the Civil Affairs
Bureau." Shawn said.
He had told such a big lie for the first time in his life.
And it was also a lie that couldn't stand up to scrutiny.
"Do you have to rush back to the office now? Can't you go there an hour later?" Norah asked.
Shawn looked at her apologetically, "Well, it's urgent. I have to rush back right now."
Norah looked down, perhaps considering something. Then she raised her head and asked, "How long
will it take? Can it be dealt with by four o'clock?" She asked him again. Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
If it could be dealt with by four o'clock, and he could get to the Civil Affairs Bureau in a half hour, they
could still have enough time to get divorced by five o'clock.
After all, it was a lie, so Shawn didn't think about it that much. He said casually, "Maybe, not sure."
"Okay, go on then. Your work is more important. I'll wait for you."
"It might be late. Are you sure you want to wait for me? I'd better have someone take you back first."
"It's okay. I don't have anything to do. Go and deal with your business. I'll wait for you at your place."
Norah affirmed.
