Despicable Roommate

Found

The warm water felt so refreshing to my tired and exhausted body. It was just midday but I’d done a lot of work already: Doing laundry and cleaning all the three rooms with Alec. We made sure that everything was in it’s place. The reward we got from our hard work was having a clean and an organized apartment. It looked so cool and I couldn’t wait to get out of the shower to enjoy the luxury.

I hated cleaning, but loved the aftermath. Nothing feels better than having a nice, clean and organized room to relax in. Clean laundry also feels so good.

Working with Alec had been a great experience. He offered to do the harder tasks which made me feel like a princess. Besides, those few hours made me know more about him, his family and friends. He was not very close with his family, but they had a decent relationship. He had a brother who was a missionary in Asia and they talked once every week. I was actually surprised that there was a decent man in that family, having met the two.

Alec and his cousin Ron were not model citizens but it seemed most of the others actually lived respectable lives in society. His father was a beloved politician in their town because he was always helping his people, and serving them as a leader should. He made sure justice was served and everyone was treated with fairness and equality.

One thing I failed to detect was whether he had feelings for me or no. Why was I even trying to imagine that? Nothing would come out of it. He was not a commitment type of guy. He only wanted a girl for her body. Maybe even just for a single night. He was very much like Ron and I wasn’t about to make the same mistake Kari did, trying to tie down a boy who did not want to be seriously committed to one person. Most college bad boys just want to have fun.

But, a girl can dream. Hope keeps one going. The only problem was that I was hoping for things that were not possible. A relationship with Alec was very unlikely. Whatever I was feeling had to remain buried, deep down in my heart until it fizzled and I moved on. There was no point in trying to figure it out.

The more I thought, I realized I was close to reaching a point of no return where I could go for anything. Even friends for benefits as long as it took me closer to Alec. I would be happy. Not just happy, I would be the happiest girl on earth.

The last drops of water ran down my body as I turned off the shower tap and grabbed a towel. I wiped off all the water and exited the bathroom.

I was dying of hunger so I hurriedly got ready so I could plan for the next meal. I couldn’t order anything because I had little money at the moment. The only option was to prepare a meal by myself which wasn’t a hard thing to do.

I didn’t bother to dress well as I wasn’t going anywhere that Saturday afternoon. I was staying indoors. I didn’t feel like leaving my room. Besides, it looked like a hotel suite that day… Maybe I exaggerated a bit but yeah my room was awesome. I was wearing a pair of black ripped jeans and a small blue T-shirt.

I hated cooking because as a lazy college student, I found it very hectic.

Alec was still seated where I had left him, playing a video game. An idea popped into my mind. I could cook with Alec. With that, I wouldn’t mind about how long it would take.

“Hey,” I whisper yelled over his shoulder.

“Yeah?” He said absent mindedly. “Wait a minute”.This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.

Oh come on.

After a few minutes, he turned to me.

“What do you want to tell me?”

“Uhmm, I was thinking…”

“You were thinking?” He raised his eyebrows.

“Okay, I thought you would like to join me in preparing lunch.”

“Sorry but this time, I’m not with you.”

What the…?

“Okay,” I said. “I’ll do it myself”

I didn’t want to force him into anything. That would make me seem like a nagging woman, yet I wasn’t one. At that point, I yearned for his approval more than anything else. I can’t deny the fact that his refusal to join me hurt. It did, like a lot.

“Actually you don’t have to cook,” He said, just as I was about to turn away. “I already ordered food and the delivery guy will be here soon.”

That was music to my ears. Even my stomach responded to the good news by grumbling. I didn’t have to cook! Yay! Kari wouldn’t have done such a thing. She was my best friend but was a little bit stingy and mean which wasn’t cool at all.

I positioned myself near Alec on the couch.

“You know what?” He said suddenly.

“What?”

“We’re going out after our meal.”

“You and I?”

“It’s not a date,” He quickly added.

I wished it was.

“Just hanging out as friends,” He continued. “We can’t spend our Saturday afternoon holed up in here after all that we did.”

At least he wanted to spend time with me and not his friends.

“So where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise,” He winked.

I thought surprises and winks were for people who liked each other not for Alec and I. Why did he have to be so mysterious about it?

“I don’t like surprises,” I lied. Every girl loves them.

“You’ll like this one. I’m just rewarding us for what we’ve done today. The work was much.”

“But its so unfair that you know where we’re going and I don’t,” I complained.

“Well, I like it that way.” He smirked.

“You silly…” I was cut off by a knock on the door.

“FOOD!” I yelled thinking it was the delivery man.

On opening the door I found…
