CEO's Substitute Bride

Chapter 35

Chapter 35

After Alyssa finished her press conference, she had planned to watch it again on Weibo, wanting to see if she had gotten any comments from the netizens. However, before she could, “Justin” had already pestered her to join him for lunch.

Turning on the computer, she browsed the webpages. She found that the interview was covered by many media and re-posted by quite a number of Weibo influencers.

The majority of the netizens were scolding her, just like she had expected. But there were a few rational people who analyzed her answers more carefully.

“I knew that she was lying. The others who supported her are now hiding in embarrassment, right? What else do you have to say?"

“Why was she acting like a diva? She even wore a mask when she was interviewed. Is she so afraid to show her face?"

"Am I the only one who thinks that the way she answered the press was cool?”

"I realized that she never really admitted to actually stealing her sister's fiancé from the start. And look at the pause at the end! You think she's still being controlled?"

Seeing the last comment, Alyssa couldn’t help but smile.

She had deliberately avoided that question. If she admitted that she had really stolen Skylar's fiancé, who knew what that woman would try and do to stir more trouble in the future?

That’s why she focused on her relationship with Moore family, rather than Emmett’s topic.

Alyssa was rarely this happy. She continued to flip through the comments.

"Can't wait for the next episode.”

“…”

Ever since Alyssa saw the Moore family for their true colors, her patience had run out. There was no way she was going to back down and obey them like before. The moment they had treated her like a lamb for slaughter was the day that their family ties were extinguished. So, she would not let this matter go.

Not long after, all the comments about Alyssa’s interview on the Internet suddenly became curses. Many of them weren't even making sense anymore as they called her names and insulted her looks.

It was obvious that Skylar had found an army of Weibo trolls.

She didn’t care about Skylar’s small movements.

Skylar had plenty of skeletons in her closet. After all, they lived under the same roof, so it was easy for her to dig up dirt on that woman.

Alyssa leaned against her pillow, and the corners of her lips twitched.

She would let the Moores happy for one more day. But tomorrow would be another story. Tomorrow, they would finally get what was coming for them.

The things that she'd release were things that Skylar couldn't clear up no matter how many press conferences they'd hold.

After going through the computer for a while, Alyssa logged into the mailbox and found that there was an unread email.

When she opened it, she was shocked.

It was an interview invitation from the Nine Clouds Media Company!

Had she submitted her resume to Nine Clouds Media by accident?

She checked her mailbox several times, only to see that she hadn't submitted her resume to the company. In fact, how the hell did they even know her name or even have her email addresses? Apart from being a graduate at one of the top film academies, there was no way they'd find her!

Suddenly, she flashed back to the time “Justin” had taken her to have lunch with Xavier.

Suddenly, she flashed back to the time “Justin” had taken her to have lunch with Xavier.

Alyssa glanced at the time that the email was sent. It was sent at nine in the morning–the time that she was still in the middle of the interview. Did that mean that they've known her through the press conference? Or was there something going on behind the scenes?

Perhaps “Justin” had something to do with this.

After thinking for a while, she decided to ask him about this. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

In the living room, Emmett sat on the sofa and played games to relax.

Frank was answering the phone behind him. He clicked the 'answer' button before immediately turning on the speaker.

“I just went out to have dinner with Emmett and when I returned, these directors went crazy!” Xavier was freaking out on the other side. “They want him to attend the next General Meeting! Tell him that if he doesn’t come back, I will go to the rooftop and jump off the building.”

Frank glanced at Emmett, who was busy in playing the game. He said calmly. “Mr. Lawrence is busy.”

Of course, Xavier didn’t believe him. He snorted in disdain. “He’s busy? My ass! What the hell is he doing? You turn on the camera and let me see him!”

“Fine.” At this time, Emmett said faintly.

The corners of Frank ’s mouth twitched. Mr. Lawrence was trying to piss Mr. Halloff! It always seemed like he was going through such lengths just to show how relaxed his life was compared to the man in the phone.

He turned on the video call and faced the camera to Emmett. Even then, the man still hadn't straightened his back and was still too engrossed with the games on his phone.

When Xavier saw Emmett playing games, he jumped up of his sit and said angrily. “I was almost tortured to death by those old guys in the company. And you over there leisurely and playing video games!”

“Yes," he said as if he couldn't care less. He glanced at the staircase casually and saw that Alyssa coming down from the staircase.

He gave Frank a look. Frank understood and turned off the speakerphone. “Director Hall, I'll be hanging up now."

Xavier also saw Alyssa heading downstairs at the corner of his screen. His eyebrows rose, and curiosity flashed in his eyes. Wanting to see how they interacted with each other, he threatened, "If you dare hang up on me, I'll die right in front of you!"

Frank knew very well that even if he hung up, Xavier wouldn't die. In fact, the man had threatened his death far too many times that almost no one treated him seriously.

But for the first time, he didn’t hang up the phone, nor shut the camera. Instead, he simply lowered the volume as to not arouse any suspicion.

Alyssa saw “Justin” in the hall on the second-floor hallway, so she came down to look for him. Upon walking closer, she saw that Frank was there too.

However, Frank had been typing on his phone. He looked much focused and did not look over. Only then did she walk towards “Justin” with confidence.

"I have something to ask you." She sat opposite to him and said.

Only then did Emmett lifted his eyelids, then lowered his head and continued to play the game. "What is it?"

“Are you very close to Mr. Hallfrom the Nine Clouds Media?"

Emmett paused. Because of the two seconds of pause, his character was killed by the enemy in the game.

He casually threw his phone to the side and finally focusing his entire attention on the woman in front of him. His eyes were narrowed and there was a faint smile on his lips. “Why? Did you take a fancy to him?”

Alyssa frowned. "Can't you talk more nicely?”

He placed his arms on the back of the sofa and leaned back. A playful smile threaded his lips as he patted the seat next to him. “"Why don't you sit next to me? Maybe I'll respond even more nicely."

"It's fine if you don't want to answer." Standing up, she was about to leave.

However, just as she was about leave, she heard Emmett's voice sounding behind her, "Weren't you looking for a job recently? So, you want to ask about the offer, right?"

Alyssa suddenly stopped and looked back at him in surprise. “How do you know?”

He shrugged, not answering her question. “Xavier told me that their company needed some fresh blood. That's why he randomly selected some college graduates to join his company. Of course, their

position is still unsure, but the opportunity is there."

After Emmett finished speaking, he stared at Alyssa. He sized her up and down, and then he frowned, “Have you received an invitation for an interview from the company?"

Although his expression hadn't changed, Alyssa could see the contempt in his eyes. She immediately turned away.

The last thing she needed was to owe him or something like that!

She pursed her lips and put on a fake smile. “"Even if I have received an invitation, I still won't go."

After saying that, she left without looking back.

Emmett narrowed his eyes and watched as she disappeared into her bedroom. For a long time, he maintained his straight posture and still didn't move.

How did this ugly woman get the confidence to challenge him?

Frank , who was familiar with Emmett, had never seen him so angry before. The atmosphere around them had dropped a couple of degrees, and everyone in their right mind would run the other way.

Frank was so nervous that he lowered his head to hang up the phone, only to find that Xavier had already hung up. Perhaps the young man had already decided to run away.

But the next moment, a phone rang in the living room.

Emmett looked at his phone and found it was Xavier.

Emmett picked it up and said coldly, “If you want to jump off the building, just do it. There’s no need to notify me.”

Unexpectedly, Xavier burst into laughter like a manic. “Ah, I wouldn't be so arrogant if I were you. You just keep exploiting me and now Karma has found you. It's just so ironic. You've used your privilege to get your wife a job, but she doesn't even want to take it. You are very angry, right?”

“When I think how angry you are now, I’m so happy that I can’t stop laughing!”

Emmett's lips curled and he said gloomily, “I won’t go back until my wife enters the company.”

"I...I was wrong." Xavier immediately lost all confidence and admitted defeat.

In response, the phone was hung up and Xavier only heard the busy tone.
